THE MANAGER
Good afternoon and welcome back to Foxcotte Park to you all for today’s Sydenhams Wessex League One game between ourselves and Hythe & Dibden. I’d like to welcome Terry Cox his staff and players and everyone associated with Hythe to Foxcotte today. They have started the season in similar fashion to us. They started with a 2-1 victory at Verwood Town and then suffered defeats in the League Cup and FA Vase before losing 5-0 away at Ringwood Town but got back to winning ways with victory at home against Fawley AFC. We were all disappointed that our match last Saturday was called off due to the weather, it was an opportunity for us to get back on the pitch and get a quality performance from the lads. Prior to that we had put in a decent performance two weeks ago against Totton & Eling. As ever, this was a keenly contested match. Both sets of players and supporters were up for it and I thought 0-0 at half-time was about right. We played quite well, while they had their threats on the rare breakouts.
was a great set-piece piece and Mikey’s strike was first class. I felt we fully deserved to record our first home win of the season and was pleased with the overall application and attitude of the players. Then came Andover Town on Tuesday evening. It’s one of those games where I don’t really know how to describe. Andover are a side who will be there or thereabouts and, they have started the season well. On the night we found ourselves 2-0 2 up without doing ng too much wrong. We did lose Dockers to injury, which was a blow but had KInge to bring on in place of him. The second half started in the same vain with us hitting the bar and creating chances, however once Andover Town got back to 2-1 1 our concentration concentratio levels dropped and our decision making was questionable. But to lose so late in the game and the manner in which we lost it was not acceptable. It was a weird feeling afterwards. I’ve not been involved in a game that has had two players sent-off, sent two players sin binned and also two questionable penalties. Here’s hoping we can make something of our next three home games here and push on. Performances have been improving. Please get behind your team, let’s move forward together, up the table and here’s to celebrating some good ood times. Enjoy the game.
Having been pleased at the break I thought we started the second half well and we were in the ascendancy. I was pleased with our overall performance and the quality of our goals. Brett’s first

MATT SCOTT
GREAT SCOTT THE CAPTAIN’S LOG Good afternoon everybody and welcome to Foxcotte Park for another tough game, this time against Hythe & Dibden this afternoon. It’s been a frustrating week for us after our game against Romsey was called off due to the weather, the lads were all keen to get back on the pitch to put the previous Tuesday’s result behind us. Our last Saturday game against Totton and Eling was Danny and JC’s first league game in charge and was great to start off with a win. We had a very strong squad of 16 players, it was good to see Chris Wing back from his army tour and back in the mix of things, he was quality for us last season and will only strengthen us alongside Paddy and Smithy. We started the game a little slow and it took us a while to get going, we created some good chances going forward and the defence looked pretty solid as we went into half time at 0-0. The second half started bright for us as we got the early lead with Brett’s first league goal, he then went on to get his second and the whole team was buzzing for the lad. Mikey Davis came on for his home debut and finished the game off with a great finish into the top corner!
Unfortunately we finished the game with 10 men as Paddy was sent off for handling the ball outside the area although the linesman l should have raised his flag beforehand for an offside. Overall a really good performance from the lads. On the following Tuesday night we had the local derby against our neighbours Andover town, we dominated the first half and could of been about 5-0 0 up at half time but we went in at 2-0 0 from a quality finish by Danny Urry, then a good header from Kingey just before the half. We started the 2nd half on a high but unfortunately that only last 10 minutes and concentration levels started to slip away, awa I won’t go too much into things especially with a few of the decisions made from the man in the middle, but I have to give Town credit where credit is due, they came at us and in the end we just couldn’t contain them. We have to forget about Tuesday night n and go again today when we welcome Hythe and go get another 3 points for the gaffers, it’s another tough game just like every game, game a few injuries/suspensions won’t help us u but I believe we’ve got a big and strong enough squad for people to fill in for fo those missing. I hope you enjoy the game.

THE BOARDROOM
CHRIS WHITE A warm welcome to all of you this afternoon, particularly the officials, players and supporters who have made the journey up the A34 from Hythe, and also to our own supporters, whose encouragement during this rather stuttering start to our season is much admired and appreciated. Regarding our current position in the League 1 table, different people react differently to certain situations. Some struggle to stay positive when things are not going as well as they would like, whereas others are able to take setbacks in their stride. I always aim to place myself in the latter camp but I can understand both points of view. It was galling to witness the goals we conceded at the very end of the game the other Tuesday night. I know that the players themselves feel the anguish just as much as we do and I know that they will respond in the right way to address these issues.
Defeats on the pitch may hurt us in the short term but the prizes are only awarded at the end of the season. If Mo Farah was near the rear of the field after three-and-a-half half laps of a 10,000m race (approximately ely the distance we’ve travelled so far this season) then that would not be as much of a concern as if he were near the back after 25 laps. We can’t always lead from the front and we’ve convinced that our team will come good given patience and support. By rising up through the field maybe our journey is destined to become that little bit more exciting! It maybe a long and arduous battle but nothing worth achieving comes easily. It does, however, become easier if we all see it through together. Today’s game is also dedicated to World Mental Health Day, which aims to get people talking about their mental health and well being.. It is fantastic that causes ca like World Mental Health Day are bringing up the focus of the world on the need to take time to talk, and we wholeheartedly whole support this with £1 of every entrance fee going to support this campaign and we also have a collection bucket at the turnstile so please give generously. generously See page 13 for further details. Enjoy today’s game and I wish you all a safe journey home and I hope to see once again next Saturday when we entertain Alton.

COACHES CORNER
JAMIE COLEMAN Good afternoon and welcome to our first home game of the season. These are my first programme notes for the new season and both myself and JC will look to give you insight from the coach’s perspective this season. Having been out of the game for a few years I was tempted back into football by the club’s structure, ambition and passion for playing football the right way. Joining a management team with a wealth of Wessex League and local football experience was a no brainier for me, their vision to develop the players at the club through quality coaching session’s fits perfectly with my coaching philosophy. Working with Jamie and Thomo on the training ground, we are bringing in professional practices to take the club to the next level, this includes performance analysis thanks to VEO (video footage), psychological techniques and player plans to improve game day performance and player confidence.
I was tempted back into football by the club’s structure, ambition and passion for playing football the right way.
It has been one of the strangest prepre seasons I have ever run, training in small socially distanced bubbles with no contact play definitely posed a challenge for the coaching staff and club. The players adapted well and committed fully to the challenging situation. We focused on the technical side of the game and the quality of our ball work and movement until a relax in government rules allowed contact play. The managers put in place an extremely challenging pre-season season fixture list which tested the squad physically and mentally, putting them in great shape for the season start on the 5th. We have a greatt squad at the club that are all keen to learn and improve, and a very strong Swifts squad with a few youngsters knocking at the door of the first team. Our focus now switches to the Wessex Division One campaign and making sure we start in the right way. An n excellent 2 nil win away at Newport in our opener is just reward for everyone's efforts during preseason. We are hoping to build some momentum and get into that winning habit against Petersfield, they will obviously be looking to bounce back from their opening pening day defeat so we are anticipating a highly competitive game.

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY We all have mental health, just like physical health. We will all face ups and downs in life which will affect it. Some days we won’t feel ourselves.
There’s a stigma attached to mental health problems. This means that people feel uncomfortable about them and don’t talk about them much. Many people don’t even feel comfortable talking about their feelings. But it’s healthy to know and say how you’re feeling.
Being mentally healthy doesn’t just mean that you don’t have a mental health problem.
Anxiety and depression are the most common problems, with around 1 in 10 people affected at any one time. Anxiety and depression can be severe and long-lasting and have a big impact on people’s ability to get on with life.
If you’re in good mental health, you can:
make the most of your potential cope with life play a full part in your family, workplace, community and among friends.
Some people call mental health ‘emotional health’ or ‘well-being’ and it’s just as important as good physical health. Mental health is everyone’s business. We all have times when we feel down or stressed or frightened. Most of the time those feelings pass. But sometimes they develop into a more serious problem and that could happen to any one of us. Everyone is different. You may bounce back from a setback while someone else may feel weighed down by it for a long time. Your mental health doesn’t always stay the same. It can change as circumstances change and as you move through different stages of your life.
1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a common mental health problem.
Between one and two in every 100 people experience a severe mental illness, such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, and have periods when they lose touch with reality. People affected may hear voices, see things no one else sees, hold unusual or irrational beliefs, feel unrealistically powerful, or read particular meanings into everyday events. Although certain symptoms are common in specific mental health problems, no two people behave in exactly the same way when they are unwell. Many people who live with a mental health problem or are developing one try to keep their feelings hidden because they are afraid of other people’s reactions. And many people feel troubled without having a diagnosed, or diagnosable, mental health problem - although that doesn’t mean they aren’t struggling to cope with daily life. Whether or not you or someone you know is struggling, or if you just want to help stop stigma, kick-off a conversation about mental health this weekend as today is World Mental Health Day.
Visit www.mentalhealth.org.uk or join the conversation at #WorldMentalHealthDay or #MentalHealth and #MoveforMentalHealth

SQUAD
CLUB HISTORY The club was established in 1902. In 1947, then known as Hythe and Power United, they joined Division Three West of the Hampshire League. The club won the division in 1949– 50, but were relegated back to Division Three West at the end of the 1951–52 season after finishing bottom of Division Two. They were transferred to Division Three East in 1954, and the two third divisions were merged into one in 1955. The club finished bottom of Division Three in 1957–58 and 1959–60. After finishing bottom of Division Three for a third time in 1961–62,[3] the club dropped into the junior leagues in Southampton. Hythe & Dibden won Division Two of the Southampton League in 1970–71. The following season they finished second in Division One and were promoted to the Premier Division. However, two relegations saw the club back in Division Two by 1975. They won the title in 1975–76, but then yo-yoed between Division One and Division Two for several seasons. The club were promoted to the Premier Division in 1986, and returned to the Hampshire League in 1994 when they joined Division Three. After finishing as Division Three runners-up in their first season, the club were promoted to Division Two. In 1999 the league was reorganised and the club were placed in the Premier Division. In 2004 the Hampshire League merged into the Wessex League, with Hythe & Dibden placed in the new Division Two. Two seasons later it was renamed Division One.

An optimistic start to the 2017-18 season with a home win against newly relegated Alton, thanks to early goals from Gunner Yates and Callum Sweeney, Alton pulled a goal back and the Street were forced to hold on when Jamie Pollard was sent off. The next match was again at home against another relegated side, Fawley AFC were the visitors and looked to have grinded out a draw until Zach Neve popped up in the last minute to snatch all three points for the Street. Downton were next to come to Foxcotte Park and a late penalty ensured the points went back to Wiltshire.
Further wins against Verwood Town and an impressive 3-2 win at US Portsmouth, with Nic Turpin scoring late on to win the game meant the club were as high as 2nd in the table. However a 4-2 defeat away at Romsey Town, despite Zach Neve putting the Street ahead early on, resulted in New Street dropping to 5th in the table. September saw Hythe & Dibden come to Foxcotte Park, with the Street eager to get back to winning ways. This showed with striker Zach Neve scored within two minutes, as he fired past the Hythe keeper. Neve was clearly in the mood for goals as he made it 2-0 ten minutes later and Callum Sweeney made it 3-0 on the 25th minute. The defence then slackened and let Liam Hanlon score to reduce the deficit, but any thought of a comeback was put to bed when Neve completed his hat-trick on 34 minutes. The second half didn’t get off to the best of starts with Kieron Le Brun being sent-off and Parker-Trott scoring for Hythe. However, Neve was to have the last say when he got his fourth of the afternoon when he scored in the 80th minute, this result got September off to a flyer as the feel good factor began to spread across the club with the positive results on the pitch continuing that would eventually lead to promotion and two cup final wins.

ALLY McCRACKEN
CENTRE
SPOT Youngster Ally McCracken has broken into the First Team from the Swifts this summer. summer The 22-year-old former Stockbridge player is the latest from the Street to be put on The Centre Spot... Spot >>> What’s your favourite position – centre-mid, attacking-mid or up front? And why? Either attacking mid or out wide so I can get the ball in areas where I can make a difference. Getting forward and getting the opposition going backwards. I like running with the ball, taking people on, trying to get goals, trying to get assists. Defensive work obviously you’ve got to do, but no one really likes defensive work! How has it been waiting for your chance to get into the first team? Do you do anything proactive to get the attention of the manager? I didn’t expect it if I’m honest but it has always been the goal since I came to the club, just kept my head down in pre season and was myself, will just continue to do that now and hopefully help the team whenever I can, I’m buzzing to be a part of it. 34
@AndoverNSfc |
Do you like roast dinners and gravy? Who doesn’t? Sunday’s aren’t the same without one. Favourite away ground played at? That’s a tough one as I like a few of the grounds I’ve played at but I’d have to go with Beatrice Avenue on the Isle of Wight after the first game of the season against Newport IOW. Describe your emotions before during and after the Newport IOW game? I was as actually a little bit nervous before this game as I knew the night before that I was starting. I soon oon calmed down as soon as the game started but getting the goal so early on helped a lot. It wasn’t asn’t ideal going down to 10 but I felt like we were w always on top and just had to grind it out. All the lads were buzzing afterwards, we all put in a proper shift and it couldn’t have been a better debut for myself and more importantly coming home with the 3 points.

What is your favourite TV programme?
no.10 I’ve seen in terms of playing between the lines and he had really quick feet. Reminds me a lot of Bruno Fernandes for Utd.
Power on Netflix, unreal watch If you could live in one movie, show, game or book what would you live in and why? Wolf of Wall Street. If you’ve seen it, you’ll know why. Who do you think is the best football player of all time? Lionel Messi. Which player in the current squad could play in the Southern League and why? Danny Urry. The lad has got a bit, would hate to play against him. Team bonding in a karaoke bar... you have to do a duet...what song would you pick and who would you sing it with? I’d have to get Kinge involved and go for Hero by Enrique Iglesias. His initiation song was different class.

In the dressing room, who is the: Funniest? Most serious? Most untidy? Loudest? Funniest - Gunner 100% the guy never rests. Most Serious - Kinge Most Untidy - Max Allen, he’s always throwing stuff around the changing room. Loudest - Jake Curtis, Biscuit is singing 90% of the time, especially on the mini bus. Describe your pre match preparation? No drinking the night before ha-ha-ha! I usually go for a little walk in the morning to grab a few snacks and drinks to have before the game. What football team do you support? And why? Liverpool, Grew up watching them from a young age. Would you rather have fish fingers for fingers or have chicken wings for arms? Fish fingers for fingers. Your football idol? It’s always been Lionel Messi. Who is your best mate in football? Dean Carr. What a guy! I’ve always been at the same club as him for most of our lives.

GETTING INVOLVED IN THE SET PIECES...
>>> What do you consider the best goal you’ve ever scored? I would have to say that it was against Moneyfields at home on my debut for Swifts. We lost the game 5-2 2 but it’s always nice to score on your debut! Who would you say you have the most chemistry on the pitch? That’s a hard ard one to answer because I’ve only nly played a few games. games Who is the bestt player you have played with? And why? That’s another hard question to answer. Probably have to say Adam Bourner, he can play with both feet and can do it all. Who is the best player you have played against? And why? Callum Slattery, nobody could get near him for 90 minutes. He went on to make it as a pro.
CELEBRATING SHANE LOCK’S GOAL AT NEWPORT IOW...
What’s on the changing room playlist at the moment? A bit of everything really, Jake Curtis has got a bit on the aux to be fair to him, haven’t had any complaints yet. Mali Mali what a tune, brings back IOW memories. Favourite action film of all time? Not that big on action films, any of the Fast and Furious films are decent though. What is your favourite ice cream flavour? Ben and Jerry’s Cookie dough. Who was your biggest influence growing up? My Grandad, he would be at every game without fail and always paid for my boots whenever I needed new ones, Legend! I’m also grateful to Swifts manager Robbie Skeates for bringing me to the club and I wish the best to the Swifts for this season!

MY STREET
THIS SEASON WE ARE ASKING FOR SUPPORTERS TO GO DOWN MEMORY LANE AND ANSWER A SELECTION OF QUESTIONS BASED ON THEIR TIME FOLLOWING THE STREET. JACK WEATHERITT SHARES HIS VIEWS AND SELECTS HIS ALL TIME FAVOURITE STREET XI TO TAKE ON THE BEST!
Name: Jack Weatheritt Age: 28 Where do you watch games from: I don’t have a set position, so it varies game by game. First game: The first game I watched was the club’s first venture into the FA Cup against Romsey Town in August 2018. First memory: The impressive 4-0 victory over Romsey Town in the FA Cup. Zach Neve got a couple of goals and Luke Neller got the last one.
The worst match: The worst match for me was going out of the quarter-final quarter of the Hampshire cup against nst Moneyfields last season. I don’t think we performed to our high standards that night. Best Individual performance by a player: There have been some great performances from the games I’ve watched over the last three seasons. Shane Lock, Max Allen, Gunner Yates, Matt Scott and Alex Dockree are just a few names that have put in some wonderful performances. Favourite Street kit: The home green and black stripes. The he Nike one we have currently is the best one. one
Best goal seen: The best goal would have to be Shane Lock’s second goal against Portsmouth in the Hampshire Cup. Best match witnessed: Again that would have to be against Portsmouth, it wasn’t obviously against their first team but it was a massive occasion for the club with over 500 people in attendance, including Mr Pompey and his bell! The match itself was a great game to watch, although it didn’t start too well when Portsmouth scored after 2 minutes but the Street rallied and won the game 2-1.
Favourite All-Time Player: Shane Lock is my favourite player. He works tirelessly for the team and gets from box to box. He also has loads of skill and can also supply and score goals. I love New Street because... because it’s a big family and everyone helps one another. It’s a great club to be a part of. JACK’S ALL TIME NEW STREET XI: XI GK: ALEX THOMPSON
Outstanding goalkeeper, made many quality saves during the time I watched him play. Was made a speciality of saving penalties, especially in shootouts. It’s great to see him still at the club, passing on his knowledge to the other keepers as Head of Goalkeeping.
RW: SHANE LOCK
His name would be first on the team-sheet team every time. He never let anyone down and would always give you that little bit extra. Has that ability to turn a game in your favour.
CM: ALEX DOCKREE
He’s another great leader on the field, always talking and encouraging others. Also has great aerial ability and is a danger at set-pieces. set Great strength when on the ball.
CM: CALLUM SWEENEY
One of the best st players ability wise to have played at Foxcotte Park. A great player, who could use either foot, also knew where the goal was and scored some impressive free-kicks. free Also was exceptional from the penalty spot.
KEEPER | ALEX THOMPSON
RB: LEWIS ALDERMAN
Lewis was a strong defender for the Street and Mr Reliable. He made the art of defending easy as he read the game so well.
LB: MARK KEOGH
He loves a tackle, very strong and physical. He always gave you 100% and never let you down. Keogh was also a great vocal support both on and off the pitch. It was a shame that he was out for most of last season through injury.
CB: MATT SCOTT
Top quality centre back. Has a never say die attitude while being a rock in central defence. He made the difference to the team when we gained promotion to the Wessex Premier.
CB: JAMIE COLEMAN (C)
He was a great captain for the team, he was also a great defensive player for the side, whether that was holding midfield or at centre back, played out of his skin against Portsmouth in the Hampshire Cup.
LM: GUNNER YATES
The wing play and and shooting power of Gunner was sorely missed when we were in the Wessex Premier. Was and still is at his best when 1v1 against a full abck and loves to cut inside and go for goal.
ST: JAZZ BEAVIS
Has had a number of spells with the club, great feet and seems to be able to get out of any tight situation on the pitch.
ST: ZACH NEVE
A natural goal scorer, he was amazing for the Street during the Wessex One promotion season a few years ago. Played a key part in that success and scored some important goals during his spell at the club.
MANAGER: JOHN SMITH
There is only been the two managers during my time at New Street but John has been the most successful manager for a while at the club. During the Wessex One success and also near the end last season were the most enjoyable times at the e club watching the team play.

STORY OF THE MATCH The Street secured a massive three points as they defeated Totton & Eling 3-1 at Foxcotte Park last week. The first half was a very even game with chances at both ends, Connor Thorne was denied by keeper Eyres when he was put through and Sean O’Brien also produced a couple of routine saves to keep the score line 0-0 at half-time. The Street upped the tempo at the start of the second half and were rewarded when Matt Scott’s deep free kick was won in the air by Alex Dockree, who headed it back across goal for Brett Denham to head past the helpless Eyres. Denham, clearly delighted at getting his first goal in Street colours, only had to wait another 13 minutes for his second of the season, when he latched onto a through ball and fired it low past the keeper into the far left corner. Substitute Mike Davis then made it 3-0 on 79 minutes with a wonderful strike from the edge of the box before a Matt Scott own goal four minutes from time denied O’Brien a clean sheet and worse was to follow when O’Brien was sent-off a minute later for handling outside the area. The Street held on though to record their first home victory of the season.

DENHAM STRIKES TO HELP SINK TOTTON By Kevin Pipkin
Striker delighted with getting off the mark to secure victory over the Millers Brett Denham was delighted to score his first goal of the season when he headed home from close range early in the second half in the win over Totton & Eling, two weeks ago. A Matt Scott free-kick was headed back across goal by midfielder Alex Dockree and Denham was unmarked in the sixyard box, and the former Tadley Calleva and Badshot Lea forward headed in to help the Street pick up their first home win in the Sydenhams Wessex League One this season. The 29-year-old, who missed the opening day victory at Newport IOW and made his league debut as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Petersfield Town earlier in the month, now seems to be set to be on the goal trail after netting his second shortly later. As long as he is on the pitch, scoring goals and picking up three points along the way, the striker is happy.
Denham said;”It’s always great for one to land to you like that. I think I’ve got a habit of the ball coming to me in the box, but it’s great to get off the mark. But the most important thing is the three points. “The gaffer knows what I can do. As long as I am in the team I will give one hundred per cent, I will try and score goals and I will try and create goals for the team. “At the end of the day I am a striker. I want to score goals and I want to create goals. “On a team note, it was a great win, it was a fantastic afternoon and we knew it was going to be a tough game against Totton, I think we put in a professional performance.” Denham was also delighted for debutant Mikey Davis, who also scored in the second half after replacing Danny Urry. Denham added; “Mikey has come off the bench and given us something different, he’s enthusiastic and always wants the ball. The strike he hit from the edge of the box was different class. We now look forward to the game on Tuesday night looking to build on this performance.”

STORY OF THE MATCH The Street were defeated on the road as they lost 5-2 at neighbours Andover Town eleven days ago. In an extraordinary game, the Street raced into a 20 first half lead, thanks to a fine strike from Danny Urry that deflected over the keeper into the top corner and a great header by substitute Scott Kinge from a Shane Lock corner. The second half started well for the Street who hit the bar and had a couple of chances to increase their lead before Josh Hewson reduced the deficit with a shot that went in off the far post. Then Max Allen was adjudged to have handled in the area and Tom Pattison converted the penalty. It was end to end now and then Danny Field was sent off for pulling back his marker. It was to get worse for the Street when first Connor Thorne was sent off for an adjudged last man foul and then Gary Thorne was penalised for a second penalty to be awarded. Pattison converted after both Matt Scott and Scott Kinge were sin binned for dissent. Town secured the win with further goals from Harry Barkaway and Adam Pattinson against the seven Street players left on the pitch.

THE CLINIC
PETE TUNNEY Good afternoon and welcome to today’s match against Hythe & Dibden. Well it has been all go around here over the last few months. We spent the pre season treating a myriad of injury’s, which has kept us very busy, and what with dealing with the virus and the added constraints that raises you can imaging the amount of problems we have had to deal with. As planned we started a series of blood pressure checks on all our players and staff. The reason I instigated it is because high blood pressure is known as the silent killer. Although a person may appear fit and well if they have high blood pressure they may be at risk of a heart attack and if we can spot the signs early, we can ensure our players and staff are made aware of any problem and inform their G.P. to take the appropriate action, which is part of our duty of care to all our staff. As one can imagine with three teams and managers plus their staff it entails a great deal of work for me and my team, to which I am indebted to for the very hard work put in by Jude and Vicky who have been a brilliant addition to our treatment room.
second run and any readings that flag up as high we will of course be informing the individual of our findings and supporting them as much as possible. The last thing I want is to have to use the clubs defibrillator defibrillato on a match-day. The treatment room has been extended and we will shortly be in receipt re of two new treatment reatment tables, which is another welcomed addition to our department.
This will allow Jude and Vicky to up their skills as they continue to grow in confidence and ability. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the chairman and committee for their support and help with the up-grade up of the treatment room, which demonstrates the clubs forward thinking and ambition for the future. I will of course be adding future updates upd on events from the treatment room, so I wish you all well, enjoy the day and stay safe. Best regards
The information collected is been collaborated by Jude at this time after which we shall begin the

LEAGUE LOOK THE LATEST IN SYDENHAMS WESSEX LEAGUE Storm Alex, or the remnants of same, appeared to have Division One on its hit list as compared to the full Programme in the Premier. Four games were postponed due to waterlogged pitches – the sufferers being Andover New Street, Hythe & Dibden, Verwood Town and Whitchurch United. There were three Saturday games where the home side scored five. The first on the Island where Newport and Verwood amassed eight between them. Connor Kelly(2), Aleks Przespolewski, Jordan Browne and Joe Craig with the five and Matt Vining, Diop Evans and Harvey Elsom getting on the score sheet for the visitors. Laverstock & Ford made it five wins out of five to remain top of the table but found it far from easy against Totton & Eling. Archie Lovegrove for the home side and James Matthews for “the Millers” left it all square at the break before Jake Rawkins scored the winner, but encouragement surely for the losers who are so far without a point.
Downton have not had the start to the season they would have wished but are now showing signs of picking up and a best of three goals win at Petersfield helped their cause. Ben Smith and Tom Moseley scored the goals with Will Webb notching the hosts goal in front of an impressive attendance of 130. Finally, Newport made it eight points out of nine on their travels with a 5--2 win at the much improved Ringwood Town, As seems often the case, Newport’s goals were shared around with two for Joe Butcher and singles for Jordan Browne, Conor Kelly and Scott Barron, while Ryan Hamm claimed both the Ringwood goals. One game in the League Cup and progress for the rapidly improving Andover Town, a solitary goal from Ben Emans proving decisive against East Cowes Vics on the Island. Town will now travel to Blackfield & Langley in the next round. Lastly, Christchurch were the League’s last representative in the FA Cup Competition this season and in a cliff hanger of a game watched by over two hundred and fifty people, they progressed rogressed to the Third Qualifying Round for the first time in their history. The opposition at Hurn Bridge ridge were Gloucester City from the National League North, some three levels higher in the pyramid, and after a goalless first half Max Wilcock gave the home side the lead on the hour mark before a Gloucester equaliser sent the game in to penalties. Cometh h the hour, cometh the man and after Christchurch had gone 6-5 6 ahead in the shoot-out goalkeeper Lewis Gunstone-Grey Gunstone produced a superb save to see his side through.
Follands went down to their first defeat of the season as US Portsmouth scored twice in the second half at Burnaby Road after the sides had shared four goals before the interval. James Franklyn (2), Tom Cain and George Root for the victors with James Thomson and Matt Casey replying for the “Planemakers”.

A day to forget for The Swifts who will look to put it right next time out in the Cup this Wednesday Swifts manager Robbie Skeates could not hide his disappointment after the game. “It’s been a very ery frustrating day, we couldn’t of started any worse being 3-0 down with in the first 20 minutes, we were always a up against it from there on. “You would’ve ld’ve thought it was a completely different team from the ones that got a point at Moneyfields last weekend.
It was the home side who scored first and had caught the Swifts cold, the second soon followed from a lapse in concentration, The home side then found themselves 3-0 in no time at all. Nic Turpin made it 2 in 2 with a cooly taken finish from the penalty spot. The first half ended with arguably an unrecognisable team performance which had seen The Swifts take a well deserved point last weekend.
“Never the less, a big improvement in the second half... however we got what we deserved from the game in all. “I’m certainly looking ooking for a big reaction Wednesday night in the cup at Foxcotte Park.”
The second half was an improvement from the Swifts with the home side controlling more of the ball and creating a few half chances. The home side always looked a threat on the break and late in the game rounded off the scoring and ending the game with a good finish from the edge of the box.

LADIES RUSHMOOR COMMUNITY LADIES 0 ANDOVER NEW STREET 5
STREET MAKE IT TWO OUT OF TWO WITH ANOTHER IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE A brace from Noni Davis and goals from Gemma Dunn, Naomi FranceSargeant and Nikki Barnes secured the Street Ladies back to back wins last Sunday. Despite a difficult pitch and playing against a strong wind in the first half, the Street continued from where they left off from the previous Sunday and created the first chances of the match against Rushmoor. But it took centre back Gemma Dunn to open the scoring when she won a tackle just inside the Street half and with the Rushmoor defence playing a high line, she was able to force her way clear and slotted it past the advancing keeper. The Street continued to attack looking for a second goal and Megan Harrison was denied by the crossbar and also a couple of blocks by the Rushmoor defence.
The second goal eventually did arrive from Naomi France-Sargeant, Sargeant, who broke clear on the right side and cut inside to beat the keeper with a low shot. Manager Kyla Tobin made some changes at half-time time and one of those changes moving Nikki Barnes upfront from right back immediately paid off when she scored from close range. Another substitute Noni Davis then broke clear on the left handside and beat the keeper and nd she then got her second of the game with a fine left foot strike that found the top right hand corner. The game was one way traffic with the Street pressing Rushmoor back and it was only for bad luck and some last ditch blocks that denied the Street from increasing their lead further. Manager Kyla Tobin said after the game; “We We showed great character in tricky conditions today. We completely dominated after a tricky first 20 minutes. Defensively we looked solid again and the two centre backs were exceptional. eptional. Tia Dewhurst was everywhere, I don’t know how she did not get on the score sheet but she kept getting into the right areas and worked tirelessly for the team.”

WHO?
HAVEN’T WE MET BEFORE?
Now in their 7th season in the Wessex One after relegation into Wessex League One from the Premier Division in 2014. After a number of seasons finishing mid-table in Wessex One, the 2018-19 season saw the club finish in its highest position of 7th, with 51 points and 14 wins from their 36 games played. The following season saw further progression and again they were in a strong promotion position along with the Street but the season was cut short due to the global pandemic.
The last time Downton played the Street was at Foxcotte Park in September 2019 201 when the Robins won 4-1 4 with Thomas Moseley scoring a brace for the Robins and Samuel Howe and Daniel Telfer also scoring. The Street gained a consolation goal through Solomon Mawo in front of a crowd of 139 people. The Robins also won the previous match before that in August 2018 in the League Cup thanks to three first half goals that killed the tie from James Clark, Shaun Prentice and Declan McGregor. The Street’s consolation goal in the second half was scored by substitute Jazz Beavis. The match attendance attenda was 154.
2020-21 SEASON SO FAR... One of the pre-season favourites, the Robins haven’t had the best of starts with a 4-1 home defeat to Alton, followed by away defeats to East Cowes (2-1) and US Portsmouth (5-1). They did however draw 00 with Bemerton Heath Harlequins and got their first win away at Petersfield (2-1). Downton have also lost in the League Cup (1-3) at home to New Milton Town and at Farnham Town in the FA Vase (4-2). 68
STADIUM – BRIAN WHITEHEAD The club play their matches at the Brian Whitehead Sports Ground on Wick Lane just off the Salisbury Road and the turning is just before the Bull Pub.

THE LAST WORD BY MATT BADCOCK - EDITOR AT THE NON LEAGUE PAPER It’s difficult to know what to write about sometimes in these programme columns we send out each week. Do people want to hear views on the big issues around the game? Are you flicking through a programme for some light-hearted reading at half-time? It feels like everything has been a bit serious recently. And rightfully so. Clubs up and down are worried about the future. What makes it harder, in this Covid pandemic, is a lot of the things we are worrying about when it comes to NonLeague football are largely out of everyone’s control. While clubs can put the right protocols in place, if the government suddenly decide no fans then there’s not much that can be done about it. It’s a frustrating time for all, perhaps summed up by the situation this weekend in the FA Cup where Step 2 fans aren’t allowed to watch their team play live, be it home or away. At the time of writing, there is still great uncertainty for National League clubs about their kick-off. They will be behind closed doors but with almost no exceptions, that will only work if there is sufficient support from the Government or the Premier League. 70
All we really want is to watch our teams play again. That goes for every club throughout the pyramid. Those who already have fans in want to make e sure the gates stay open. Perhaps this tricky period reminds us why we started watching Non-League Non football in the first place. The thought sprung to mind from last week’s NLP where our new columnist Tony Incenzo – talkSPORT’s journalist and NonNon League expert – about the importance of getting young fans through the doors. Tony recounts how his mum used to drop him and a friend at the gates of Hendon and would return at 4.45pm to pick them up knowing they will have had an enjoyable, and safe, afternoon watching wa their local side. From there Tony’s passion for these levels of the game soared and, anyone who follows him on twitter, will know just how many grounds he has visited over the years. It got me to thinking about my own involvementt in the game. My Dad is the one to blame, Heavily involved in Non-League Non football, I probably had no choice. But I loved going down to a ground, smelling the liniment waft from the changing rooms before standing so close to the action soaking it all in. I enjoyed watching Premier League football, like any other kid, but really Non-League League was the place to be. That’s what Covid has shown me, anyway. How much I enjoy being at a game with other people and soaking it all in. How I enjoy going to a game with my Dad, who kick-started started my love affair with Non-League Non in the first place. And, with that, I’m off tonight tonigh to see a game with him. Enjoy your game. impossible to say what will happen next.
