THE MANAGER

Good afternoon and welcome back to Foxcotte Park to you all for today’s Sydenhams Wessex League One game between ourselves and Romsey Town. I’d like to welcome Adam Pullinger his staff and players and everyone associated with the Town to Foxcotte today. They have started the season well with wins over New Milton Town, Whitchurch, Fleet Town (in the League Cup) and Selsey (in the FA Vase). They did however lose to Folland Sports and suffered another defeat, 2-0 at home to Verwood on Tuesday evening. We put in a decent performance last Saturday against Totton & Eling. As ever, this was a keenly contested match. Both sets of players and supporters were up for it and I thought 0-0 at half-time was about right. We played quite well, while they had their threats on the rare breakouts. Having been pleased at the break I thought we started the second half well and we were in the ascendancy. I was pleased with our overall performance and the quality of our goals. Brett’s first was a great set-piece and Mikey’s strike was first class. I felt we fully deserved to record our first home win of the season and was pleased with the overall application and attitude of the players.

Then came Andover Town on Tuesday evening. It’s one of those games where I don’t really know how to describe. Andover are a side who will be there or thereabouts and, they have started the season well. On the night we found ourselves 2-0 2 up without doing ng too much wrong. We did lose Dockers to injury, which was a blow but had KInge to bring on in place of him. The second half started in the same vain with us hitting the bar and creating chances, however once Andover Town got back to 2-1 1 our concentration concentratio levels dropped and our decision making was questionable. But to lose so late in the game and the manner in which we lost it was not acceptable. It was a weird feeling afterwards. I’ve not been involved in a game that has had two players sent-off, sent two players sin binned and also two questionable penalties. Scoring two goals at Andover Town should be enough for a team like us not to get beat, and that is disappointing. As a whole team; the squad, the staff and myself we need to take a look at ourselves and ask what we are doing wrong. Here’s hoping we can make something of our next three home games here and push on. Performances have been improving. Please get behind your team, let’s move forward together, up the table and here’s to celebrating some good ood times. Enjoy the game.

MATT SCOTT

GREAT SCOTT THE CAPTAIN’S LOG Good afternoon everybody and welcome to Foxcotte Park for another tough game, this time against Romsey Town this afternoon. It’s been a contrasting week for us after our first home win of the season last Saturday against Totton & Eling was followed by a defeat at neighbours Andover Town on Tuesday night. Last Saturday against Totton and Eling was Danny and JC’s first league game in charge and was great to start off with a win. We had a very strong squad of 16 players, it was good to see Chris Wing back from his army tour and back in the mix of things, he was quality for us last season and will only strengthen us alongside Paddy and Smithy. We started the game a little slow and it took us a while to get going, we created some good chances going forward and the defence looked pretty solid as we went into half time at 0-0. The second half started bright for us as we got the early lead with Brett’s first league goal, he then went on to get his second and the whole team was buzzing for the lad. Mikey Davis came on for his home debut and finished the game off with a great finish into the top corner!

Unfortunately we finished the game with 10 men as Paddy was sent off for handling the ball outside the area although the linesman l should have raised his flag beforehand for an offside. Overall a really good performance from the lads. On Tuesday night we had the local derby against our neighbours Andover town, we dominated the first half and could of been about 5-0 0 up at half time but b we went in at 2-0 0 from a quality finish by Danny Urry, Urry then a good header from Kingey just before the half. We started the 2nd half on a high but unfortunately that only last 10 minutes and concentration levels started to slip away, I won’t go too much h into things especially with a few of the decisions made from the man in the middle, but I have to give Town credit where credit is due, they came at us and in the end we just couldn’t contain them. We have to forget about Tuesday night and go again today when we welcome Romsey and go get another 3 points for the gaffers, it’s another tough game just like every game, a few injuries/suspensions won’t help us but I believe we’ve got a big/strong enough squad for people to fill in for those missing. I hope you enjoy the game.

THE BOARDROOM

CHRIS WHITE A warm welcome to all of you this afternoon, particularly the officials, players and supporters who have made the journey up the A3057 from Romsey, and also to our own supporters whose encouragement during this rather stuttering start to our season is much admired and appreciated. Regarding our current position in the League 1 table, different people react differently to certain situations. Some struggle to stay positive when things are not going as well as they would like, whereas others are able to take setbacks in their stride. I always aim to place myself in the latter camp but I can understand both points of view. It was galling to witness the goals we conceded at the very end of the game on Tuesday night.

to address these issues. Defeats on the pitch may hurt us in the short term but the prizes are only awarded at the end of the season. If Mo Farah was near the rear of the field after three-and-a-half half laps of a 10,000m race (approximately ely the distance we’ve travelled so far this season) then that would not be as much of a concern as if he were near the back after 25 laps. We can’t always lead from the front and we’ve convinced that our team will come good given patience and support. By rising up through the field maybe our journey is destined to become that little bit more exciting! It maybe a long and arduous battle but nothing worth achieving comes easily. It does, however, become easier if we all see it through together. Today’s game is an opportunity to get back to winning ways but it won’t be easy against a very good Romsey side. Enjoy today’s game and I wish you all a safe journey home and I hope to see once again next Saturday when we entertain Hythe & Dibden. So...hold on tight and enjoy e the journey.

I know that the players themselves feel the anguish just as much as we do and I know that they will respond in the right way

COACHES CORNER

JAMIE COLEMAN Good afternoon, and a very warm welcome to our visitors today, it’s great that we can even get these games on with all that’s going on in the world at the moment. Personally football is keeping me sane, (although not after Tuesday night but I won’t go into that!!!) so it’s great that we can have this outlet in life to forget what’s going on and do something ‘normal’. I’d like to thank the club and all the committee for all their hard work in making the club a COVID safe site, as you can all see, they’ve done a great job just so we can get out there and play football and the supporters can watch safely. Personally for me it’s been a strange start to the season, after having what felt like a 12 week pre season with 6 weeks of that only being able to train and coach the lads in groups of 6 proved a massive challenge in itself, throwing in the fact that we didn’t have a start date for the season just made it a very hard task. We had to mix the training up a lot to keep it fun but also have in mind

10

@AndoverNSfc |

that after all it was pre season and there was some running to do. This leads me nicely onto our first team coach Jason, I worked with Jason around 10 years ago at Stockbridge FC and he improved d my game a lot, so after him leaving I was always on the lookout to work with him again. I tried to get him for the last couple of years to be honest but he had h work commitments meaning he couldn’t be involved but finally this season he could, but now our working workin relationship is alongside each other due to me hanging my boots up because of injury. He is a really good coach and his knowledge of how to play the game is brilliant. We also have Alex Thompson who is our GK coach who is clearing doing a great job as paddy p has been one of best players so far this season. It’s great to work with Thomo as we’ve played together for years so we know what we both are about.

NEW MANAGEMENT TEAM | DANNY DOLAN & JAMIE COLEMAN

We have a new bit of kit up the club, which is the ground breaking technology called VEO. It’s basically films the whole game but with no need of a camera man, it’s technology allows it to track the ball and record the whole game, once downloaded it creates highlights which you can also go into and edit. It’s a great bit of kit that allows us to watch the game back a provide analysis back to the team. VEO is something I’d never thought I’d see at New Street but it just shows our ambition and that we are going in the right direction. I’m absolutely delighted to be the assistant manager; it’s all come about a bit quickly after only just being appointed as first team coach at the start of pre season. Personally I’d still like to be playing but injury has forced me to stop, I had surgery on my right knee 4 weeks ago which was 6 months overdue because of COVID, although all went well quite a bit of cartilage had to be taken out and also have damage to my ACL, I’m also due an op to my left to repair some cartilage which all in all would put me out for another season. The decision to stop playing has been tough but on the other hand I’ve seen the speed of some of these nippers, maybe it’s for the best :-). To be named assistant manager was a pleasure, this club has been a big part of my life and hopefully we can push the team forward to achieve good things. I’d like to congratulate Danny Dolan on the role of first team manager; he was doing this alongside John Smith who has new moved up to director of football.

Every time I’ve played against Danny he would always go out of his way to talk to me after the game, this meant a lot and I could tell that he was also a good bloke off the field. When he came in to New Street I knew it could only be a good thing. After getting to know him quite well I was right, his football knowledge is great and has a very good footballing brain, he also won’t take any drivel and says it how it is, is which is a must in football but an even ven better bloke off the pitch, the kind that will do anything for you. So all the best Danny, let’s hope, together we can achieve what we want to achieve for this club. Lastly I’d like to say a big thank you to John Smith and Iain Meechan, eechan, I’ve I played for John and been his captain for about 10 years, we won a lot together but lifting trophies and getting promotion with New Street are footballing memories I’ll never forget. Both top blokes and lifelong friends. All the best in your new roles lads. Thanks for everything. That’s it from me, let’s all get behind the team today and support us for today’s game. Thanks again for your continued support. support Stay safe.

LEAGUE ROUND-UP The Wessex League heard last weekend that three Managers have decided to move on. Callum Brooks at Portland United, Jody Rivers at Downton and our own John Smith at Andover New Street. As we announced last week, Danny Dolan and Jamie Coleman will take on the role at Foxcotte Park with John moving to a Director of Football role. Ben Smith looks to be in sole charge now at Downton, whilst we await an update as regards a permanent replacement at the New Grove, although it’s been reported Gary Bailey and Mark Carter have taken the role on an interim basis. Doubtless readers will recall Jesse WallerLassen from Team Solent days, the midfielder featured in #Hashtag United’s penalty shoot-out Emirates FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round win over Soham Town Rangers on Monday, which was available on BBC i-player. He marked the occasion with a well taken equaliser around six minutes from the end to send the game to penalties and then converted the winner in the 4-2 win.

PORTLAND UNITED MANAGER CALLUM BROOKS DEPARTS

A date has been arranged for the 2019/20 Portsmouth Senior Cup semi-final clash between Baffins Milton Rovers and Horndean – it’ll be on Wednesday 11 November at the PMC Stadium. A date for the tie involving Fareham Town at Moneyfields is yet to be confirmed. The last I had was that the Final would be played at Fratton Park, but given the current pandemic situation, that may well be changed.

WELCOME TO THE FOXCOTTE, MIKEY! The Street bolstered their squad with the signing of Mikey Davis from Whitchurch United last week. Davis, was at Basingstoke Town last year and had joined the Longmeadow side at the start of this season but found first team opportunities hard to come by and proved his worth when coming on against Totton & Eling last Saturday and proved a real handful to the Millers defence and produced a fine finish from the edge of the box to secure the win. Director of Football John Smith said “Mikey offers us another option upfront and has great pace that will scare opposition

defences. It’s a great signing for us and gives further competition for places, which is what we have in other areas of the pitch.”

JACK ODAM Odam is the Town’s current top scorer so is without doubt one to keep an eye on. Previously with Totton & Eling in 2012-13 2012 season, where he made 8 starts and 1 substitute appearance, scoring just the one goal. Odam was next at Lymington Town for just over 3 seasons and making over 60 appearances during that spell and amassing 20 goals as well. He joined Romsey towards the end of the 2017-18 2017 season, but the following season he hit the ground running by scoring 27 goals in 36 starts in all competitions. He made just one appearance last season but has started well this season with a goal in the season opener, a 2-1 1 victory at home to New Milton. He was on target again in the following match, match away at Whitchurch United. The Town won 4-1 1 at Longmeadow. Longmeadow Odam made it three goals in three appearances when he scored in their 2-1 1 win at Premier side Fleet Town in the League Cup. His goal scoring run was broken though in the next game, in the FA Vase victory over Selsey. @AndoverNSfc |

Following relegation from the Wessex Premier, the Streets’ tough start to 2019-20 – a 1-1 home draw with US Portsmouth – caused a little anxiety amongst fans, but the Street then went on a 3 game winning run, which included a fine 4-2 victory at Love Lane, against Petersfield Town. A climb into the promotion places began, there were a couple of setbacks along the way and after a 1-1 draw with Hythe & Dibden and a 2-1 defeat away at Laverstock & Ford a short while later. Most fans knew a run of winning results was required to get back into the Wessex Premier. A win at Newport IOW kick started a

winning run that would propel the Street into the top 2. After the win on the Island, the Street faced Romsey Town at home. Ilyas Warshow was making a rare start upfront in place of the absent Luke Hooper, but it was Jason Silver that opened the scoring for the Street on 16 minutes. The crowd of 87 at Foxcotte Park were hoping to see further goals to warm them up on a cold late November evening, they had to wait until the 62nd minute when Warshow doubled the lead and then hit his second nine minutes later to make it 3-0. Romsey replied with what turned out to be a consolation goal through substitute Matthew Page on the restart but the Shane Lock raced clear to finish with ease in the 75th minute to make the score 4-1. Warshow wasn’t finished though and he completed his hat-trick 7 minutes from time when he coolly rounded the keeper to score. The Street would win a further 10 matches in a row and the run would end with a 0-0 draw at home against Alton, which turned out to be their last game before the pandemic hit. Romsey would lose to Bemerton 5-2 before hitting 5 themselves against Fawley AFC. Their season prematurely ended with 3-0 defeat at home to Andover Town.

SCOTT KINGE

CENTRE SPOT Summer signing midfielder Scott Kinge has found his feet in recent weeks. Here the 33-year-old 33 former Tadley Calleva, Calleva Team Solent and Basingstoke Town player answers the questions you the fans want to hear... hear >>>

What made you decide to come sign for the Street?

Which player in the current curre squad could play in the Southern League and why?

Danny Dolan signed me from Team Solent and since then I’ve enjoyed playing for him as he is a natural winner. I also got the same feeling from John when I had my Zoom meeting with them both pre-season. The set up at Andover New Street is excellent and the players have been really welcoming.

I feel that Matt Scott could play at Southern League level. As a centre half he has the attributes and desire that would fit in well at a higher standard of football. Good in the air, strong, reads the game g well. Locky is also technically a great player so would have to say him as well but lots of players in the current squad could easily play higher.

What was your biggest motivation to get back fully fit and playing in the starting 11 following your injury? My biggest motivation to come back from injury was mostly to prove to myself that I could still compete at Wessex level. Coming back from a major knee op was hard but taking a step down to local football was not competitive/ challenging enough for me which is why I trained hard to get my fitness levels back to where they used to be.

34

@AndoverNSfc |

Where do you feel is your favourite position within the squad? I am quite a versatile player and have on o occasions covered in between the sticks when needed! However, my strongest position is centre mid. I love nothing more than mixing it up in the middle, battling, winning the ball back and starting off attacks. Team bonding in a karaoke bar... you have to o do a duet...what song would you pick and who would you sing it with? Jake Curtis can hold a tune so I’d probably do a duet with him. After my initiation song, I’d probably go for a crowd-pleaser, crowd Angels by Robbie Williams is always a winner.

facebook.com/AndoverNewStreet | www.ansfc.co.uk

In the dressing room, who is the: Funniest? Most serious? Most untidy? Loudest? Funniest – Gunner Yates. He has so much energy and is certainly one of the biggest characters I’ve shared a dressing room with. The journey home from IOW was also very interesting with Gunner on the bus.

no.10 I’ve seen in terms of playing between the lines and he had really quick feet. Reminds me a lot of Bruno Fernandes for Utd.

Most Serious – I would probably have to say myself. I tend to get myself thinking about the game before getting changed and am often thinking about my jobs and responsibilities for the team. Untidy – Quite a few players like to cut up their socks which I must say I haven’t seen done at any other club! Loudest – Dockers is quite vocal in the changing rooms. He is one of the natural leaders on the pitch and this is also the case in the dressing room. His knowledge of the game is excellent and when he talks, people listen. Who is the best player you have played with? And why? The best player I have ever played with is probably a player called Steve Brewer in Cornwall. I believe he still plays for Falmouth Town so maybe one day I’ll come up against him in the FA Cup/Vase! He was the best

Danny Dolan signed me from Team Solent and since then I’ve enjoyed playing for him as he is a natural winner. I also got the same feeling from John. The setup at Andover New Street is excellent.

What is your aim for this season?

Who is better – Messi or Ronaldo?

I really want to play my part and help New Street get back to the Wessex Prem. A talented group of players that should be playing in the higher division!

Ronaldo all day long. Absolute powerhouse, stronger in the air, both feet as strong as each other and can win matches and tournaments on his own.

Favourite pair of boots that you’ve worn?

Costa or Starbucks?

David Beckham White and Silver Adidas Predators when I was 12... still remember opening them to this day! Who is your favourite New Street Player? Mario Nurse... to still have the fitness, technique and talent that he does is admirable. A huge amount of respect for Mario.

Costa. Better coffee and they pay their taxes! That’s important for me as a Bank Manager! Your football idol? Football idol is definitely Ryan Giggs. Although I’m not a winger, he was the most exciting player to watch growing up and I always wanted to be like him. The only problems were that I was never quick and am right footed!

THE TADLEY OLD DAYS WITH THE GAFFER...

>>> Who is the funniest in the dressing room?

Who is your best mate in football?

Connor is funny, he’s non-stop! Gunner is up there with him and he’s loud, so loud! To be fair it’s a great vibe in the dressing room at the moment, it’s great to be involved in it.

Best mate in football… I have a few but Brett Denham would probably be the person that I’ve played with the longest. We always sat next to each other in the changing rooms at Tadley and still travel to games together now. I’ve also provided a fair few assists for him over the years so I’m sure he’s grateful for that haha! Who is the best player you have played against? And why? The best player I’ve played against would be Anton Ferdinand. This was way back in i youth team football but Rio had just broken in to the West Ham team and everyone knew that Anton Ferdinand was the next big thing at West Ham Academy. He didn’t disappoint and was about a foot taller than everyone else at the age of 12.

What do you eat before a game? Describe your pre match preparation? Always eat 3 hours before a game and will always involve a bottle of Lucozade original. I try and avoid heavy foods/pastry etc as they can make you feel slow after you’ve eaten them. Pasta, Jacket Potatoes etc are always good. What football team do you support? And why? For my sins I’m a Man Utd fan. Living in Basingstoke was always going to make supporting them challenging but my dad was a big Utd fan and used to take me to the th games any time he could. In your opinion, when you go to the cinema which arm rest is yours? This depends on what side of the cinema you are sitting on I’d say. I’d always feel tempted to try and lean to whichever armrest was more central.

MY STREET

THIS SEASON WE ARE ASKING FOR SUPPORTERS TO GO DOWN MEMORY LANE AND ANSWER A SELECTION OF QUESTIONS BASED ON THEIR TIME FOLLOWING THE STREET. JACK WEATHERITT SHARES HIS VIEWS AND SELECTS HIS ALL TIME FAVOURITE STREET XI TO TAKE ON THE BEST!

Name: Jack Weatheritt Age: 28 Where do you watch games from: I don’t have a set position, so it varies game by game. First game: The first game I watched was the club’s first venture into the FA Cup against Romsey Town in August 2018. First memory: The impressive 4-0 victory over Romsey Town in the FA Cup. Zach Neve got a couple of goals and Luke Neller got the last one.

The worst match: The worst match for me was going out of the quarter-final quarter of the Hampshire cup against nst Moneyfields last season. I don’t think we performed to our high standards that night. Best Individual performance by a player: There have been some great performances from the games I’ve watched over the last three seasons. Shane Lock, Max Allen, Gunner Yates, Matt Scott and Alex Dockree are just a few names that have put in some wonderful performances. Favourite Street kit: The home green and black stripes. The he Nike one we have currently is the best one. one

Best goal seen: The best goal would have to be Shane Lock’s second goal against Portsmouth in the Hampshire Cup. Best match witnessed: Again that would have to be against Portsmouth, it wasn’t obviously against their first team but it was a massive occasion for the club with over 500 people in attendance, including Mr Pompey and his bell! The match itself was a great game to watch, although it didn’t start too well when Portsmouth scored after 2 minutes but the Street rallied and won the game 2-1.

Favourite All-Time Player: Shane Lock is my favourite player. He works tirelessly for the team and gets from box to box. He also has loads of skill and can also supply and score goals. I love New Street because... because it’s a big family and everyone helps one another. It’s a great club to be a part of. JACK’S ALL TIME NEW STREET XI: XI GK: ALEX THOMPSON

Outstanding goalkeeper, made many quality saves during the time I watched him play. Was made a speciality of saving penalties, especially in shootouts. It’s great to see him still at the club, passing on his knowledge to the other keepers as Head of Goalkeeping.

RW: SHANE LOCK

His name would be first on the team-sheet team every time. He never let anyone down and would always give you that little bit extra. Has that ability to turn a game in your favour.

CM: ALEX DOCKREE

He’s another great leader on the field, always talking and encouraging others. Also has great aerial ability and is a danger at set-pieces. set Great strength when on the ball.

CM: CALLUM SWEENEY

One of the best st players ability wise to have played at Foxcotte Park. A great player, who could use either foot, also knew where the goal was and scored some impressive free-kicks. free Also was exceptional from the penalty spot.

KEEPER | ALEX THOMPSON

RB: LEWIS ALDERMAN

Lewis was a strong defender for the Street and Mr Reliable. He made the art of defending easy as he read the game so well.

LB: MARK KEOGH

He loves a tackle, very strong and physical. He always gave you 100% and never let you down. Keogh was also a great vocal support both on and off the pitch. It was a shame that he was out for most of last season through injury.

CB: MATT SCOTT

Top quality centre back. Has a never say die attitude while being a rock in central defence. He made the difference to the team when we gained promotion to the Wessex Premier.

CB: JAMIE COLEMAN (C)

He was a great captain for the team, he was also a great defensive player for the side, whether that was holding midfield or at centre back, played out of his skin against Portsmouth in the Hampshire Cup.

LM: GUNNER YATES

The wing play and and shooting power of Gunner was sorely missed when we were in the Wessex Premier. Was and still is at his best when 1v1 against a full abck and loves to cut inside and go for goal.

ST: JAZZ BEAVIS

Has had a number of spells with the club, great feet and seems to be able to get out of any tight situation on the pitch.

ST: ZACH NEVE

A natural goal scorer, he was amazing for the Street during the Wessex One promotion season a few years ago. Played a key part in that success and scored some important goals during his spell at the club.

MANAGER: JOHN SMITH

There is only been the two managers during my time at New Street but John has been the most successful manager for a while at the club. During the Wessex One success and also near the end last season were the most enjoyable times at the e club watching the team play.

STORY OF THE MATCH The Street secured a massive three points as they defeated Totton & Eling 3-1 at Foxcotte Park last week. The first half was a very even game with chances at both ends, Connor Thorne was denied by keeper Eyres when he was put through and Sean O’Brien also produced a couple of routine saves to keep the score line 0-0 at half-time. The Street upped the tempo at the start of the second half and were rewarded when Matt Scott’s deep free kick was won in the air by Alex Dockree, who headed it back across goal for Brett Denham to head past the helpless Eyres. Denham, clearly delighted at getting his first goal in Street colours, only had to wait another 13 minutes for his second of the season, when he latched onto a through ball and fired it low past the keeper into the far left corner. Substitute Mike Davis then made it 3-0 on 79 minutes with a wonderful strike from the edge of the box before a Matt Scott own goal four minutes from time denied O’Brien a clean sheet and worse was to follow when O’Brien was sent-off a minute later for handling outside the area. The Street held on though to record their first home victory of the season.

DENHAM STRIKES TO HELP SINK TOTTON By Kevin Pipkin

Striker delighted with getting off the mark to secure victory over the Millers Brett Denham was delighted to score his first goal of the season when he headed home from close range early in the second half in Saturday’s win over Totton & Eling. A Matt Scott free-kick was headed back across goal by midfielder Alex Dockree and Denham was unmarked in the sixyard box, and the former Tadley Calleva and Badshot Lea forward headed in to help the Street pick up their first home win in the Sydenhams Wessex League One this season. The 29-year-old, who missed the opening day victory at Newport IOW and made his league debut as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Petersfield Town earlier in the month, now seems to be set to be on the goal trail after netting his second shortly later. As long as he is on the pitch, scoring goals and picking up three points along the way, the striker is happy.

Denham said;”It’s always great for one to land to you like that. I think I’ve got a habit of the ball coming to me in the box, but it’s great to get off the mark. But the most important thing is the three points. “The gaffer knows what I can do. As long as I am in the team I will give one hundred per cent, I will try and score goals and I will try and create goals for the team. “At the end of the day I am a striker. I want to score goals and I want to create goals. “On a team note, it was a great win on Saturday, it was a fantastic afternoon and we knew it was going to be a tough game against Totton, I think we put in a professional performance.” Denham was also delighted for debutant Mikey Davis, who also scored in the second half after replacing Danny Urry. Denham added; “Mikey has come off the bench and given us something different, he’s enthusiastic and always wants the ball. The strike he hit from the edge of the box was different class. We now look forward to the game on Tuesday night looking to build on this performance.”

STORY OF THE MATCH The Street were defeated on the road as they lost 5-2 at neighbours Andover Town last Tuesday night. In an extraordinary game, the Street raced into a 20 first half lead, thanks to a fine strike from Danny Urry that deflected over the keeper into the top corner and a great header by substitute Scott Kinge from a Shane Lock corner. The second half started well for the Street who hit the bar and had a couple of chances to increase their lead before Josh Hewson reduced the deficit with a shot that went in off the far post. Then Max Allen was adjudged to have handled in the area and Tom Pattison converted the penalty. It was end to end now and then Danny Field was sent off for pulling back his marker. It was to get worse for the Street when first Connor Thorne was sent off for an adjudged last man foul and then Gary Thorne was penalised for a second penalty to be awarded. Pattison converted after both Matt Scott and Scott Kinge were sin binned for dissent. Town secured the win with further goals from Harry Barkaway and Adam Pattinson against the seven Street players left on the pitch.

THE CLINIC

PETE TUNNEY Good afternoon and welcome to today’s match against Romsey Town. Well it has been all go around here over the last few months. We spent the pre season treating a myriad of injury’s, which has kept us very busy, and what with dealing with the virus and the added constraints that raises you can imaging the amount of problems we have had to deal with. As planned we started a series of blood pressure checks on all our players and staff. The reason I instigated it is because high blood pressure is known as the silent killer. Although a person may appear fit and well if they have high blood pressure they may be at risk of a heart attack and if we can spot the signs early, we can ensure our players and staff are made aware of any problem and inform their G.P. to take the appropriate action, which is part of our duty of care to all our staff. As one can imagine with three teams and managers plus their staff it entails a great deal of work for me and my team, to which I am indebted to for the very hard work put in by Jude and Vicky who have been a brilliant addition to our treatment room.

second run and any readings that flag up as high we will of course e be informing the individual of our findings and supporting them as much as possible. The last thing I want is to have to use the clubs defibrillator defibrillato on a match-day. The treatment room has been extended and we will shortly be in receipt re of two new treatment tables, which is another welcomed addition to our department.

This will allow Jude and Vicky to up their skills as they continue to grow in confidence and ability. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the chairman and committee for their support and help with the up-grade up of the treatment room, which demonstrates the clubs forward thinking and ambition for the future. I will of course be adding future updates upd on events from the treatment room, so I wish you all well, enjoy the day and stay safe. Best regards

The information collected is been collaborated by Jude at this time after which we shall begin the

LEAGUE LOOK THE LATEST IN SYDENHAMS WESSEX LEAGUE Division One commenced the weekend Programme on Friday evening with Laverstock & Ford making it four wins from four with a 3-1 win at Fawley. The Wiltshire side were two up at the break through Lewis Barr and Jake Rawkins with Dom Jackson adding a third in the second half against one from Dylan Knight, leaving Fawley still seeking their first point. There were three Saturday games where the home side scored five. The first on the Island where Newport and Verwood amassed eight between them. Connor Kelly(2), Aleks Przespolewski, Jordan Browne and Joe Craig with the five and Matt Vining, Diop Evans and Harvey Elsom getting on the score sheet for the visitors.

Downton have had an awful start to the season by last season’s standard and it did not get g any better at Burnaby Road with a 5-1 5 defeat at the hands of US Portsmouth. Familiar goalscorers all round with Andy Todd (2), James Franklyn (2) and Dec Seiden for the home side and a consolation from Tom Moseley. In the midweek Preview it was suggested sugges that on last season’s form the visit to Ringwood of Hythe & Dibden would probably mean an away win but things could change over the close season. And change it was as Ringwood scored five without reply with two goals apiece from Ryan Hamm and Ben Harriss and one from Joe Petty. One goal behind were Bemerton Heath playing their first League game of the season for various reasons and marking it with a 4-1 4 victory over Petersfield. Justin Bennett with a pair, Kane O’Keefe and Arshia Sheibatzadeh did the damage d after Marvin Orepo had given the Rams an early lead. Andover Town moved in to third place in the table after an entertaining three all draw at New Milton – goals from Ben Cooper, Tyrrell Sampson and Morgan Turner against two from Josh Bertie and one e from Adam Pattison for the Town – while Andover New Street rediscovered their goal touch with a 3-1 1 win over Totton & Eling. Brett Denham with a double and new signing Mikey Davis for the Street and an own goal constituting the reply for the Millers. Follands ollands made it nine points out of nine with a single goal victory over Romsey, Connor Rowe the marksman, and Whitchurch got off the mark with a 3-1 3 defeat of East Cowes Vics. Ryan Long, George Bishop and Nick Yeomans for the home side, who also missed a penalty, p and a Jimmi Burton goal for Vics who played for an hour with ten men after a handball offence on the goal line.

SWIFTS UPDATE The Swifts produced a great performance to take a point against last season’s undefeated league leaders Moneyfields Reserves.

Saturday’s game was set up to be a real battle as the previous encounters between the two sides had been tasty affairs.

the Swifts 1-0 0 up and on the balance of the game the hard working Swifts deserved the lead. Moneyfields struck back to level the game with a smart finish which managed to beat the player of the match Mike Horne. As the game grew the Swifts had their backs up against the wall with Dean Carr and Lee Morris making incredible last ditch tackles. A soft decision then gave the host to take the lead from the penalty spot; Mike Horne dug deep and made a superb save down to his right. The game ended with the Swifts taking a great point int and still remain undefeated this season.

The Swifts included Mark Keogh, who was returning after a year out of the game through injury. The host’s started strongly keeping the ball and trying to break down the resolute Swifts defence with Mike Horne determined not to be beaten. The Swifts grew into the game and started creating chances or their own and becoming a real threat. The half came to close as a stalemate with both teams creating good opportunities to open the scoring. The second half started in a similar vein to the start with Moneyfields dictating the possession. Nic Turpin rolled back the years with a sublime lob to put

Swifts manager Robbie Skeates said after the game; “Absolute Absolute shift from the lads today to grind out a point against a well organised side. We now have to take this performance on for the rest of the season. Also a special pecial mention for mike Horne, Horne who made several quality saves with one being from the penalty spot.” spot.

NEW STREET

LADIES RUSHMOOR COMMUNITY LADIES 0 ANDOVER NEW STREET 5

STREET MAKE IT TWO OUT OF TWO WITH ANOTHER IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE A brace from Noni Davis and goals from Gemma Dunn, Naomi FranceSargeant and Nikki Barnes secured the Street Ladies back to back wins last Sunday. Despite a difficult pitch and playing against a strong wind in the first half, the Street continued from where they left off from the previous Sunday and created the first chances of the match against Rushmoor. But it took centre back Gemma Dunn to open the scoring when she won a tackle just inside the Street half and with the Rushmoor defence playing a high line, she was able to force her way clear and slotted it past the advancing keeper. The Street continued to attack looking for a second goal and Megan Harrison was denied by the crossbar and also a couple of blocks by the Rushmoor defence.

The second goal eventually did arrive from Naomi France-Sargeant, Sargeant, who broke clear on the right side and cut inside to beat the keeper with a low shot. Manager Kyla Tobin made some changes at half-time time and one of those changes moving Nikki Barnes upfront from right back immediately paid off when she scored from close range. Another substitute Noni Davis then broke clear on the left handside and beat the keeper and nd she then got her second of the game with a fine left foot strike that found the top right hand corner. The game was one way traffic with the Street pressing Rushmoor back and it was only for bad luck and some last ditch blocks that denied the Street from increasing their lead further. Manager Kyla Tobin said after the game; “We We showed great character in tricky conditions today. We completely dominated after a tricky first 20 minutes. Defensively we looked solid again and the two centre backs were exceptional. eptional. Tia Dewhurst was everywhere, I don’t know how she did not get on the score sheet but she kept getting into the right areas and worked tirelessly for the team.”

WHO?

HAVEN’T WE MET BEFORE?

Now in their 17th season in the Wessex One after the merger of the Hampshire League into the Wessex League. After a number of seasons finishing at the lower ends of the Wessex One, the 2018-19 season saw the club finish in its highest position of 3rd, just one point off top and also promotion. The following season saw further progression and again they were in a strong promotion position along with the Street but the season was cut short due to the global pandemic.

The last time Hythe played at Foxcotte Park was in September 2017 when the Street won 5-2 2 with Zach Neve scoring four and Callum Sweeney also finding the net. Hythe consolation goals came from Liam Hanlon and James Parker-Trott. Trott. The Street also won the return game that season 4-1. 4 The only match last season between the two sides ended in a 1-1 1 draw at Clayfields with Hythe having two players sent off in the first half and Sam Woodward equalising straight after Luke Hooper’s ooper’s opener.

2020-21 SEASON SO FAR...

STADIUM – CLAYFIELDS

Hythe kicked off the season with a 2-1 victory away at Verwood Town, with goals from Ethan Anders and Craig Kingswell. They then lost 9-8 on penalties in the League Cup to Newport IOW and then suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Verwood in the FA Vase.

The he club played at the Ewart Recreation Ground on Jones Lane, which was shared with a cricket club, before moving to a new ground at Clayfields in 2014.

WORD ON THE STREET | ANDOVER NEW STREET V ROMSEY TOWN | 03.10.20

THE LAST WORD BY MATT BADCOCK - EDITOR AT THE NON LEAGUE PAPER Football hangs in the balance following the latest tightening of restrictions by the government which could last for six months in an attempt to limit the rise of Coronavirus cases.

Local lockdowns in north England shows crowds in football grounds are on a knife edge. At midnight last Thursday (17th), restrictions were introduced in the northnorth east aimed at halting the rise in coronavirus cases. Then, the next day, similar measures were announced for large parts of Lancashire while Yorkshire and the Midlands were also seeing restrictions. The responsibility lies with local authorities meaning there can be inconsistencies in different regions.

No sooner had the 2020-21 season kicked off at Steps 3 and 4 last weekend in front of limited crowds, did it look like it may be nearing its suspension. The National League campaign had been scheduled to start on October 3 with the intention of fans being allowed back in grounds at Steps 1 and 2 but Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed on Tuesday (22nd) this would not be allowed to happen. It is believed the division will not start without fans. Four test events had been scheduled to take place involving National League clubs in front of 1,000 fans and three of the friendly fixtures went ahead on Tuesday. Notts County against York City, scheduled for Saturday (26th), suspended ticket sales following the new restrictions pending further updates from the government and football authorities. This is an ever-changing scenario and at the time of writing it is impossible to say what will happen next. 70

A joint-statement from om the Northumberland FA and the Durham FA confirmed football below Step 6 in the Sunderland, Gateshead and South Tyneside areas is not allowed, but said clubs at Step 6 and above can play on for now although there is a possibility the 30 per cent capacities es could be reduced back to 15 per cent. As part of the measures, people are “advised not to attend amateur or semi-professional semi sporting events as a spectator”, which has only added to a confusing picture. Where the latest restrictions leaves football remains emains to be seen but never has it been more important for clubs and particularly fans from Step 3 and below to follow the rules and protocols in order to keep stadiums open. Fans must cooperate with social distancing at games – clubs do not have the finance ce to deploy an army of stewards to make sure they are doing so at all times during games.
