THE MANAGER

Good afternoon and a warm welcome to Foxcotte Park to all our supporters for this afternoon’s game against our visitor’s Totton & Eling.

I’d like to welcome the Totton & Eling management team, their staff, players and all officials and supporters who have made the journey to Andover this afternoon. Totton are a club, who have struggled over the past few seasons at the wrong end of the League One table. This season they have shown in patches what they are capable of and currently sit in 7th place.

The Millers have always been a tough opposition for us, and I expect nothing different this afternoon. We will need to be at our very best to get a positive result.

We come into the game having gathered momentum recently with recent wins over Ash United, Romsey Town and most recently the Tuesday night victory over Ringwood Town. We have picked 20 points from the opening 24 points available so far this season.

I thought the North Hants tie against Andover Town recently was a real good advert for the Wessex League.

Apart from a brief spell halfway through the first half, my team were magnificent, and so were you in the stands. We were all let down by some poor decisions during that 20 minute period in the first half but showed great character to come from behind and show the attacking prowess we have as we grew stronger in the second half.

The momentum followed us down to Romsey again where we were again resilient coming from behind twice. I was so proud of the team because you must be strong when you go behind, and we had a game changer in Cooky, and we took our chances as they arrived.

Please give it everything you’ve got from stands. We’ve had plenty to cheer in recent years and we all feed off each other here, which I know we will be doing again today as we set about making Foxcotte Park a fortress it usually is.

Enjoy the game.

APART FROM A BRIEF SPELL HALFWAY THROUGH THE FIRST HALF, MY TEAM WERE MAGNIFICENT, AND SO WERE YOU IN THE STANDS.

MILLERS 1

23rd November 2021

At the start of the evening eleven places and nineteen points separated the two sides in the Division One table and the eventual score line only accentuated the gap with the visitors hit by the recent resignation of their Manager, which also usually means an exodus of players all with little or no thought for the Club. Add to that Andover New Street’s penchant for scoring goals at home and the fact that they were coming off two successive defeats and the odds were rather stacked against the visitors.

It was however Totton and Eling who made the brighter start, moving forward neatly, with the home side only having a Luke Hooper shot that passed the wrong side of the post to show for their efforts until they took the lead after eleven minutes. Mikey Davis broke clear on the left with appeals for offside being ignored and was stopped at the expense of a corner, Reece Rusher swung the kick to the far post where it was bundled in by a combination of Max Allen and Lewis Alderman with the former claiming the final touch. Within three minutes it was two as Davis again made ground on the left and Shane Lock stooped to head the cross low into the corner of the net. Two more goals by the twenty minute mark effectively signalled game over as Luke Hooper seized on to a badly misplaced back pass to add number three and doubled his finish with a low drive across goalkeeper Jack Higdon after a poor goal kick gifted Street the possession.

Higdon made a double save from Hooper and Danny Field, punched away a Rusher cross and made a juggling stop from a free kick from the same player before the half finished with home keeper Sean O’Brien just beating Badjie to a through ball. The home side started the second half determined to add to their lead with Hooper and Lock going close before goal number five came after a quarter of an hour. Again, Davis was the provider, pulling the ball back from the by line for Reece Rusher on the edge of the six yard box.

A home substitution had an immediate effect with Cameron Thatcher scoring with his first touch of the ball, Rusher providing the chance after a run from the halfway line.

To their credit the visitors never gave up and gained some consolation when a corner was only partially cleared and another substitute, Alfie Prendergast, found the corner of the net from the edge of the area with O’Brien unsighted

There was still more to come as Reece Rusher came in from the right touchline virtually unchallenged and fired low across the keeper into the far corner before Cameron Thatcher scored his second after a Davis shot rebounded off the bar he really deserved to be on the scoresheet and the substitute reacted the quickest to slot the ball home.

WESSEX LEAGUE PREVIEW

A surprise in Division One where leaders Downton suffered a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Hamworthy Recreation.

The League new boys have slowly been making their presence felt but this is their best win yet with Chris Long and Frank Rosenwald on target. Ollie Davies replying for the home side.

Two clubs very much in the promotion hunt at this stage of the season, New Milton Town and Andover Town, shared two goals and the points Ben Cooper and Corey Taylor Kelly while Follands retained their place with a 5 1 win at Amesbury Town. Arshia Sheibatzadeh scored twice to add to singles from Fabio Manuel, Clayd Roach and Harvey Clark with the home consolation coming from Tyler Rutten.

Fleetlands, like Hamworthy Recreation, are beginning to make their mark and late goals from Sam Martin and Dale Mason gave them victory over Petersfield for whom Connor Hoare was on target. Totton & Eling continue to impress with two goals from Brenno Nazerri giving them victory at Ringwood Town.

Ash United made their first visit to East Cowes Vics and shared four goals with their hosts Henry West and Conor Lyon for the home side and George Hedley and Kareem Foster for the visitors, but still no joy for Fleet Spurs with Romsey scoring four without reply at Kennels Lane through Geoff Dunn (2),

A solo goal from Zach Hine gave Andover New Street victory over visitors Verwood Town while Newport overcame a difficult hurdle with a 2 1 win at Fawley thanks to two goals from Joe Craig with the home reply coming from Liam Webber.
