THE MANAGER
Good afternoon and a warm welcome to Foxcotte Park to all our supporters for tonight’s game against our visitor’s Verwood Town.
I’d like to welcome the Verwood management team, their staff, players and all officials and supporters who have made the journey to Andover this afternoon. Verwood are a club, who have struggled over the past few seasons at the wrong end of the League One table. This season they have shown in patches what they are capable of and currently sit in 8th place.
The Potters have always been a tough opposition for us, and I expect nothing different this afternoon. We will need to be at our very best to get a positive result.
We come into the game having gathered momentum recently with recent wins over Ash United, Romsey Town and most recently the Tuesday night victory over Amesbury Town. We have picked 14 points from the opening 18 points available so far this season.
I thought the North Hants tie against Andover Town last Tuesday was a real good advert for the Wessex League.
Apart from a brief spell halfway through the first half, my team were magnificent, and so were you in the stands. We were all let down by some poor decisions during that 20 minute period in the first half but showed great character to come from behind and show the attacking prowess we have as we grew stronger in the second half.
The momentum followed us down to Romsey again where we were again resilient coming from behind twice. I was so proud of the team because you must be strong when you go behind, and we had a game changer in Cooky, and we took our chances as they arrived.
Please give it everything you’ve got from stands. We’ve had plenty to cheer in recent years and we all feed off each other here, which I know we will be doing again tonight as we set about making Foxcotte Park a fortress it usually is.
Enjoy the game.
APART FROM A BRIEF SPELL HALFWAY THROUGH THE FIRST HALF, MY TEAM WERE MAGNIFICENT, AND SO WERE YOU IN THE STANDS.

THE NON-LEAGUE PAPER WITH MATT BADCOCK - EDITOR NLP
As FA CUP draws go, there really is nothing like the fourth qualifying round.
Yes, the first round ‘proper’ (a word banned in NLP Towers), and third round draws will grab all the publicity but, for me, there isn’t anything quite like the euphoria of the final qualifier before the ‘big boys’ come in.
Give the change of the Non League landscape these last few years, I would argue that the Holy Grail for all FA Cup dreamers starts here and this week’s draw sure didn’t disappoint.
Take Anstey Nomads for example. The lowest ranked club left in the competition as I write this, the Step 5 Nomads have progressed through five rounds to get to this stage for the first time in their history, culminating in a 5 0 victory over fellow minnows Shefford Town & Campton last weekend.
Their reward, a home tie with Chesterfield, second in the National League with average attendances of over 6,000 and FA Cup semi finalists in 1996 97.
Who says the magic of the FA Cup only starts at round one?
And Nomads weren’t the only ones to pick a dream tie in the live talkSPORT draw this week.
Beckenham Town, riding high in Isthmian League South East having won promotion from Combined Counties South last week, were
rewarded for their 5 3 success over Binfield with a visit of Dagenham & Redbridge to their modest Eden Park Avenue ground. What a scalp that could be?
Elsewhere, Coalville Town were handed a dream trip to Notts County’s famous Meadow Lane stadium, steeped in FA Cup history, Sevenoaks Town were given a short trip to National League South leaders and Kent rivals Ebbsfleet United, and St Ives Town were pulled out a home tie against top flight strugglers FC Halifax Town, no doubt dreaming of adding their names to the cup archives.
NLP
One tie which will stand out to the FA Cup purist, however, is Blyth Spartans’ visit of National League Wrexham.
You have to go back to 1977 78 to stumble across the history between these two sides and a fifth round replay played at Newcastle United. After a 1 1 draw in the initial tie at Wrexham, the replay was switched to a snowbound St James’s Park and was watched by an official attendance of 42,187 easily the biggest crowd of the season there and one which wouldn’t be bettered for 22 years!
Wrexham won the replay 2 1 and went on to lose 3 2 to Arsenal in the quarterfinals that season.
These days, of course, the Dragons are owned by A lister Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and have dreams of replicating such glory.

Downton now top the table following a 2-1 home win over Fawley. Dylan Knight opened the scoring for the visitors but two goals from Ollie Davies allowed his side to take advantage of New Milton’s defeat at Follands by the same score. Clayd Roach, back at Hamble, and Harvey Clark scored the all important goals with George Deem the Linnets marksman.
In terms of goals scored Millbrook went one better by scoring six against Whitchurch who had been enjoying a good run of results. The six shooters were Ashton Goodger with two and singles from Mark Barker, Morgan Callaway, Robbie Stapleton and Jude Nwachukwu Kieran Rogers and Adam Brown replying for the Jamboys.
Andover Town retained their position in the top five with a 3 2 win at The Portway over the improving Fleetlands Brendan Holmes, David Jerrard and Harrison Hale’s goals outweighing those from Jamie Wrapson and Jack Farrier.
