collective housing project _ws|2009 Bratislava|DĂşbravka
The building is conceived as a balcony access residential house divided by a generous atrium that creates space for the common use of its inhabitants as well as amenities within the ground floor. The actual housing area is made up of two reflected parts oriented to the east or west. It has five above ground and one underground floor, with parking, storage space and building technology. On the 1st floor there is a parterre with amenities where its main function is coffee and bistro, which partly uses the atrium space. The 2nd and the 3rd floor consist of one-to three-room apartments in different patterns with different pushed or pulled balconies to achieve a 3-dimensional façade. The remaining floors consist of three-bedroom duplex apartments that are entered from 5th floor where the day part with a big terrace is situated. Through the staircase the night part in the 4th floor that has no access from the gallery. Entry to the building is possible through 6 entrances and the actual residential floors are accessible by two closed free-standing vertical communication cores. Each of the amenities in the ground floor has a separate entrance from the public road and from the atrium, which provides benefits to the residents of the apartment house. The reinforced concrete skeleton construction system allowed the variability of combining different types of the flats, thereby creating an irregular grid of the outer facade. The outer surfaces consist of plaster combined with a wood panelling on the facade of the highest levels and cafe, what optical highlights these compositionally distinct stages.

meditation house _ws|2010 Bratislava|Župné námestie
The concept of the meditation space is based on the idea of the individuality of a man, his properties and understanding of the meditation. This space is thus adapted to the individual needs of a man (position, orientation, amount ...) and his physiognomy. A space for meditation comes also from the qualities of the surrounded environment .These are especially views of the surrounding historic buildings and other elements specific to a given environment. The basis of the program is structured in 5 points, that were considered: view, position, privacy, orientation, contact with surroundings.AAccording to the results of a questionnaire in which respondents identified their priorities in 3 categories, a combination of individual perspectives with the location and level of privacy was defined. To the updated program is then assigned the spiral spatial connection, which unites the different spaces and builts an essential element of vertical communication. This creates a spatial diagram of the program and the organisation that enters the process of creating the resulting form. According to the study of body proportions the specific spatial form – blobs - were generated. By the application of diagram in the space the intervals of blob's location in relation to the vision and the number of meditators were clearly determined. Joining of the blobs by using a spiral allowes the creation of an internal atrium. The compact form was divided horizontally and then arranged along a spiral, thus creating a tiered structure serving as a staircase to access the blobs. The outer shaping of the volume creates a crystalline form.

mediatheque _ws|2011 Bratislava|TrnavskÊ mýto
The design concept of the mediatheque is based on philosophical context of the relationship between existence and being. Existence as a world visible, sensory, tangible (defined by space and time), is materialized in the underground railway station, which meets the normal, everyday, utilitarian needs of man. In contrast with this world is media library, as an institution that preserves and mediates human knowledge. This is an intangible world of being, as a higher form of existence, as the world intelligible, noumenonal, where the goodness, beauty and idea play a key role. This for the human experience uncontainable world is called among philosophers by different names and definitions, for example: Kant identifies it as "things in themselves" Plato "Ideas", Freud "unconscious", Heidegger calls it "being" and Jacques Lacan "reality". The fundamental problem of epistemology remains the relationship of these two worlds, and especially the boundary between them. Since the beginning of the world, mankind tried to find a way how to cross this border. In simpler, primitive societies it was a metaphor, as spatial means to overcome this line, for example. ladders, trees ... Later the various concepts arose that have tried to communicate the being in the world of the existence, through a variety of entities or beings with supernatural properties - mediators - who communicate between the two levels on the basis of emanations (radiation). In my proposal this mediator becomes a sort of atrium , whose form is inspired by the desire to capture a unique moment of life that with its form and dynamics materializes a distortion of the boundaries between being and existence , ie between the mediatheque and the railway station.

academic centre|rule based design_ws|2012_at Bauhaus-University Weimar Bremen|University Campus
with Taisja Lindner
The proposal Science centre is an academic Center for the University of Bremen with the interdisciplinary cooperation and the international and national interactions between scientists. In the context of conferences and seminars it is a place of academic exchange and communication. The design concept for the academic center was developed from the perspective of the building users and visitors. The aim of the design was both the good orientation and the intuitive navigability through the building. This pathfinding quality is particularly important for the first-time users, such as meeting and conference guests with no experience with the building. On the other hand it should arise an environment, which would support the social interactions between users on the formal and informal level. The challenge was to transport information important for the successful pathfinding solely with the architectural facilities. The conceptual approach thus joins the Arthur and Passinis opinion that "if you see a road, you understand did -you-can walk along it without having to see a sign did you can do so " (Arthur and Passini , 1992). The Science center is a complex building, whose space program includes several lecture halls, seminar rooms, exhibition space, hub, accommodation, restaurant and an administrative area. To be able to run the user intuitively through the building, the visual information about the function of the areas and spaces is successively transmitted to him. The major task was to develop certain logic rules related to the problematic of orientation and navigation in the space. According to these rules the final spatial concept was generated and evaluated in a VR walkthrough.

the city and memory|master thesis in progress_ws|2013 Bratislava|former stone quarry and area under castle
I’m walking through the town and wondering if what I see is really everything it can offer to me. We are foreigners for each other. I left my memories far away from him and in return it hides his from me. It seems rather to forget about them as well. It identified itself with the role of the city of immigrants from every corner of the city of Slovakia and tourists from different parts of the world. And this is how I have perceived him during all these years of my own immigration. It was silent. Didn’t speak to me. Haven’t told me its story. I believed that it has none, except for a few surviving quite nice, but over time stale memories scattered around the old town. I was wrong. I did him wrong. In fact the story of this city has to be discovered. It is not expressed so explicitly and picturesquely on the houses, streets and parks like in other cities that we godly admire. This city is whispering his story to those who want to listen. It is afraid to shout it to the world, because it doesn’t need the interest based on pure regret. Understanding of his genius requires a lot of empathy, but a lament over his difficult fate won’t help him. It needs to keep its streets walked by the people who live their past, presence and future, people who don’t only listen, but also live and create its story, all simultaneously and consciously. Only nostalgic recollection and returning to the past won’t move us and our town to its essence and not at all to our future.
“"Why do you think that past times were better than yours? Have we forgot about the hard times of famine and wars, which is written about, so that we wouldn’t grumble against God for the present time? What were these times like? Whether we don’t tremble hearing or reading about them? Therefore, we should rather give thanks than to grumble for our times. " St. Augustin

senses Our ideas are mostly influenced visual images. When we’re not able to see something, we automatically assume that the matter does not exist. We rely on one of our 5 senses and according to it we are able to give a final judgement about the existence of a phenomenon or an object. This shows our lack of imagination, ability to imagine something we can not see, the fear to rely on other senses, or our inability to connect our idea with another than visual perception. We can not complete the part of what we see into its final possible shape and be satisfied with the inexactness of thus acquired images. “The sight separates us from the world, while the rest of the sences joins him.” (PALLASMAA, Juhani; The Eyes of the Skin)
“The nostrils awake a forgotten image and fall into a vivid dream. The nose makes the eyes to romember.” (PALLASMAA, Juhani; The Eyes of the Skin)
“Sound is invisible but has the power to change the characteristics of the space we occupy.” (SCHULZ-DORNBURG, Julia; Art and Architecture)
“(...) while the tactile space separates the observer from the objects, the visual space separates the objects from each other (...) the perceptual world is guided by the touch, being more immediate and welcoming than the world guided by sight.” (ZUMTHOR, Peter; Thinkong Architecture)
space and time Like for the ancient man was important the active perception of his environment by creating certain characters for it, so for our existence is very important to get along with the genius of the place we live in . Thus, in order to better understand the city and the land, we must be able to navigate and to identify in their time and space, which we create by getting to know them. One of the essential characteristics of the land and the city is its location which is due to the architecture changed to the place. The task of the human is to turn this place into "space" as understood by Michel de Certeau – the space, whose existence is contingent by movement and activity , which gives a sense to the space, the unity , which fills it and makes present in the story, which is enacted at the moment. Through this the time joins the category of place and space. Time is in its immediacy and transience of the moment issues a proof of the past and future time. Because if there is a place or space here and now, it had to exist before and will continue to exist, though perhaps in a different form or substance. Thus, the place, time and space are connected and open up their relevance and stability in the human who is perceives them and thus gives them meaning, either by his own activities or by pure sensation.

memory According to the trace decay theory of forgetting, of the information is not rehearsed, it will start to gradually fade away and decay. What if we have forgotten on the purpose, to eliminate unnecessary or inaccurate information, or as Freud would say, resorted to repression of the memory, which is actually a defensive mechanism that allows us to displace unpleasant emotional content out of our consciousness? We can also decide between the interference theory and theory of extinction of the memory. While the former speaks of forgetting as a result of new information overlapping with the old one so that they interfere with each other and we are not able to recall both, the new information and the old one at the same time, according to the theory of extinction, forgetting is not replacing but disappearing of the memory traces. But the case of our forgotten city is probably related to quite a different theory. This could be a theory of the lost guides based on the assumption that the information in long-term memory can be sorted into categories and linked to a semantic network that to be able to handle them faster and more efficiently. The reason of forgetting is than the situation when the specific memory fails to find the network. As the network of our city memories was heavily damaged by a violent demolition of its architectural heritage, his stories and memories disappeared with him. Thus we were left no other option than to transform the memory footprint by creating the forgotten parts, carefully and sensitively so that it will help to understand the history and presence of the city, not to distort its past in an attempt to erase all the negative memories that are become an integral part of its story. Then maybe the city will forgive us that we have managed to neglect and forget about it and show us his genius at its best.

urban intervention _Košice|2011
young.s_with Jozef Bátor| Martin Hložka| Michala Lietavová| Daniel Mudrák A particular solution is not the aim of this intervention, we only offer a point for discussion on the potential of the unused roofs of apartment buildings (location, surface, panorama).Life in the city offers its residents many benefits, however it does not have the advantages which can be found in villages. One of the most important advantages of village life is the area around the house, suitable for many activities. Some of these activities can be placed on the roof. The roof offers a place to meet, relax, read, swim, have a barbecue, grow fruit and vegetables, breed chickens, do sports or sunbathe. We offer the possibility of creating a place which enhances the relationships of residents towards their apartment building and provides an atmosphere for still more activities improving the living environment. Userwise, it is half a public space, which is visually public. The place on the roof is seen from the street and from apartment buildings around, and will become an element enriching the residential area with functionally different utilizations of respective roofs. The second part of the intervention is the organisation of happenings directly on the roofs of apartment buildings, where the residents would have the opportunity to experience such activities and the atmosphere of being on the roof. The aim is to invoke the discussion as the creative process with the opportunity for the residents to become initiators of functionally utilized roofs. Together, they would search for appropriate combinations of activities and a possible way to enact them. published in the book Mestské zásahy Košice; Michal Burák and UzemnePlany.sk; Dive Buki, Košice, 2011, ISBN 978–80–970848–0–6

young.s_with Jozef Bátor| Martin Hložka| Mária Holčeková| Daniel Mudrák Just a few centimetres would be enough to overcome the flood protection wall to see the Danube River. The goal of the competition was to solve the problem of lack of the visual contact with the Danube River caused by the construction of the flood protection wall in the waterfront area in Bratislava. Our proposal was a swinging bench made by a several equal parts rotating spirally to ensure a swing movement. The design dives a playful function to the bench that enriches this waterfront area. This activity would promote communication and revitalizing the public space. This look-out bench could become a local area attraction.

However the intervention was supposed to be referred to the cities of Košice or Prešov in the east of Slovakia, we decided to extend the problematic of competitive relationships between the cities to the whole Slovakia. The Project called SLOVAK LOVE is thus about the strengthening of mutual relations between Slovak cities especially between the western and the eastern part. We the simple, easy readable and well known symbolics, where the letter are official shortcuts of the cities (used also as licence plates on vehicles). A banner placed on a well known sightseeing or for the hosting city typical places or vehicles will always express the love to another Slovak city. The City Nitra sits on the river Nitra and sometimes we forget about it. As when you sleep lying on your hand all night and in the morning you cannot find it, because you don’t feel it anymore. And yet what a beautiful city, which could be even more beautiful after discovering the right nice places. Those other location could be a bank of the river - Nitra. So many nice corners lies along the curved water. So why not to disclose and show them to be proud of them? River wants to be with her people to walk and play, boat, or ride a bike there. Her name is feminine and like any other women, she would like to be in the center of attention, and receive a lot of love from the boys who come to herto celebrate the evening sky, or just for a walk. competition for the new school in Psáry _Psáry CZ|2013 young.s_with Jozef Bátor| Martin Hložka| Hana Križanová| Daniel Mudrák
The project for the new school is located in the extending village near Prague in Psáry. The main idea was based on creating a playful and education supportive school complex, which is divided into 4 parts needed for the effective construction schedule. The first phase consist of building for children from 5th to 9th class with library and canteen in the ground floor. The classrooms are located in the first floor and to each one belong a small terrace that could be used for an outdoor-teaching as well as for breaks. The idea was to keep children in touch with the nature and to offer them private space as well as common social space between the classes and on the wide staircase. In the first phase one half of the building for gym would be build. The rest with another smaller gym would be built in the second phase with the building for children from 1st to 4th class. This building offers one big atrium, where all children could play together. In the third phase a kindergarten should be realised. Since each part would be constructed in long time period and according to the fact, that elderly children have other needs that the youngers, we designed each building as a separate design that would accommodate the best conditions for their users. All the 4 parts are connected with the colourful courtyard that is supposed to be communicative space and nice meeting point not just for kinds but for all citizens of the village.

competition fairy tails_The Siege of Bratislava|NY|2014
young.s_with Jozef Bátor| Adela Klčová| Hana Križanová| Daniel Mudrák + Dominika Čerepkaiová
The task was to write and visualize our imaginary architectural fairytail, cause architecture becomes more functional and less poetic. So the effort was to recall a period when every house had a secret and its own story. The time when everything had its place and importance. Our story is in Bratislava a tells about places that cannot be seen by tourists and people who live their fast lives, where only the seen has any relevance. In our story, you have to close your eyes. Just then you will be able to see the places, we are telling about, with your nose, your ears and hands, maybe with your mouth. The story describes a route through 4 special from a plenty of still undiscovered places in Bratislava. They are based on true historical facts or old rumours that have been told between the citizens from one generation to another. The journey starts under the gothic Tower in Janko Kral’s Garden and follows crossing the Danube river with a little break on the apricot islands that used to be there before the regulation of the river in 1870. After surviving this dangerous part you will see the caravan on the former fish market, where the ancient amber road was crossing the Danube. From here leaded by your nose you will get under the Flower Street and further to the Farewell Chapel. Though our story ends in this place, you can use the map below to walk through another forgotten places. Please let us know if you discover new places and stories about them, so that we could add them to our map.
was hit by a flood of tourists. They poured in from the Danube, and spread rapidly through the adjacent center; veneering the entire Undercastle and Old Town with their dazzling and colourful apparel." The city is in the spotlight of thousands of inquisitive alien eyes. How could it be possible that Bratislava is being visited by people from across all parts of the globe, yet a lady from a district in the peripheral vicinity, had been to downtown Bratislava way back in 1983 and never since? With the advent of technology, the center has been mapped inside out. On Google or Instagram one can see St. Martin's Cathedral, Castle, and the National Theatre. Numerous people know what the centre looks like. But do they know how the city really is? How well do you know your hometown? How does it smell when the sun rises? When the pressure is low? Just before the storm? What is the temperature of the river? What flavor? Is the grass in front of the Presidential Palace soft? Does it smell nice? And how was the neighbourhood, the town or the city, before you even met it? If a living organism can be defined by its capability to reproduce, its capacity for movement, ability to receive food, and its impulse to react to external stimuli, you have to realize that the city is alive. In that premise, Bratislava is a very old lady with a rather mysterious past, and she is very discrete about it. I could think of nothing else all day. Be careful what you wish for, a wise man once said. Or it just might come true. I wished to see more. And then it happened!
.
There is a gothic Tower in the Janko Kral Garden. It once sat on top of the Franciscan church, but it broke down after an earthquake and was moved here. Or so they say. I sat here for nearly a thousand times before, but this it time was different. I got here to escape the rush, I wanted to be alone in my town, and escape the struggling for a moment. One brief moment. So I closed my eyes. I opened my eyes, but nothing changed. The daylight conceded, and became the dim of a cave. Scented soil. Damp. I could vaguely see some walls in the distance. When I touched them, I felt a strange tingle of relief. Weathered stone, and openings which could be windows or doors ... wait. It was something like a church. I must be underground, feeling the body of the Franciscan church, of which only the tower is above the ground level. I rubbed my eyes, but I couldn't see any better in the fading light. After a while in the quiet dark, my senses grew sharper. But a church in the ground? I must be dreaming! With one hand on the wall, I moved slowly down a spiral staircase, while a pleasant sound traveled up from below. It reminded me of the days I used to go fishing with my dad. Small waves breaking into unsuspecting floating objects, one could not second guess that unmistakable sound, especially if you spent your childhood on a boat. I wondered how far I was from the waterfront, when the hallway started to broaden and the tangled smell of stones, algae and fish grew stronger. The corridor opened and suddenly there was a flicker. I must have passed the waterfront and the tunnel ended at the bottom of the Danube! It was scary to acknowledge the large and looming cargo ships from underneath. Akin to huge whales at the Oceanarium, but made of steel. I couldn't see all the way to the top, the water was rile and murky. It cast shadows all around me. By the time I realized that I needed to catch my breath, I saw a bridge. In fact, it seemed to be a mere reflection of the pontoon bridge, which once crossed the river in this area, but few people remember it now. I started to swim towards the surface of the water.
All of a sudden, I smelled apricots. It grew stronger by the minute. I was probably losing consciousness, but by some miracle I managed to get to the surface. A deep breath. A dull pain in the chest. Blurred eyes. The apricot scent grew to a cadence on the tip of my nose and was terrifyingly intoxicating. I got caught in a strong maelstrom and was being pulled back, when a strong eddy came to my rescue and carried me onto the Danube Island. But shouldn't the Island be long gone, with the Danube regulation years ago? Brushing aside my first thought, I realized it was not very grateful, to accuse an island of nonexistence, when it was the only thing keeping me from drowning. I looked around and saw apricot orchards all around me. Far as the eye could see, the landscape was painted in orange and I swallowed a pang of regret for not witnessing such blatant beauty before. I picked as many apricots as I could fit into my pockets, and caressed the
“There was a caravan moving along the wall.
A boat was tethered on the shore. I hopped in and paddled towards the SNP Bridge. The smell of the Apricot Island gave way to that of fish. I tried to single out each source in the paradoxical mixture of sounds that I heard. I anchored beneath the flood dike and wanted to climb up the steep slope, but something unusual stopped me. There was a caravan moving along the wall. It was a caravan of evidently wealthy Asian merchants, but I couldn't explain how I knew that. The smell of different spices and perfumes hung in the air amidst fluttering luxurious fabrics as they passed by. They muttered strange words while they passed by, and just then an avalanche of amber pearls rolled over. I managed to sneak into a small recess and heard the pearls splashing into the water, only to be carried away. If I was already overwhelmed by this, the tourists I didn't notice until now, only kindled the fire. The VentĂşrska and PanskĂĄ remained true to its spirit of a ford crossing of ancient trade routes. The Amber Road crossed the Danubian Route, all under the supervision of the Bratislava Castle. I wanted to get back, but my hideout seemed to amazingly mollify the surrounding odors. I saw the entrance to a tunnel and decided to go through it, purely to see where it lead to. I wasn't afraid of getting lost. I was reassured by the hubbub in the city, the sound of feet kissing the paved stones, and the babel of bargains that the tourists added to. My nose eased at the smell of roses, daisies, tulips and lilacs up ahead. The Flower Street could not be far away.
.
I heard bells ringing in the distance. Time had passed in its most charming manner. It flew. I had probably already passed the Flower Street, because the flowery scents faded. The tunnel branched out again, as it had done several times before. I smelled salt in one limb of the tunnel and the second one reeked of pigs. I chose the obvious and wondered at the sound of water, since I had to be at least a mile from the waterfront. To my surprise, it led to a deep cave. Its walls were strewed with huge crystallized salt formations, almost like stalactites. In the middle there a clearing that gave way to what seemed like a small sea. It was lit from above, daylight seeping through a narrow slit. How is this even possible? It's said that a scaffold with a farewell chapel used to be here, where the sentenced were sent to bid goodbye. Hence the tears. The salty smell. Surely even the crystals are here because of it? The city is changing, but it won't fade away. It gets blanketed in time and space. It has a memory and lets you to read in it, if you wish. I stayed beneath the surface for about two days. I was afraid I wouldn't find the way back to this wonder. There were numerous places that I wanted to see, but I found everything I could remember. The people over me walked undisturbed to the Bratislava Castle, took pictures at the St. Martin's Cathedral or National Theater and seemed contented. Therefore, I am writing and pleading for some advise. I'm afraid you won't believe me, but I'm also afraid that you would. How do you deal with a lost city? Sincerely, Me

competition for the church of Pentecost _Brno CZ|2014
young.s_with Jozef Bátor| Adela Klčová| Hana Križanová| Daniel Mudrák
The church and the parsonage for the Salesian community is located in Brno - Líšeň. The building is divided into three separate parts that are connected with interior and exterior 69Ě7/2 -(1å 0< 9ã,&+1, +/('É0( connected - the parsonage, house for the community and the Church of the Pentecost. The church is designed as a triple-nave - with one main and two side aisles. On one side ship is located the sacristy connected with confess rooms. On the second side ship the sanitary facilities and room for mothers and children, which is accessible from the main ship and also directly from the vestibule of the church. The nave of the church leads in the eastern apse, which is lit by a skylight - light as a symbol of God penetrates from above the altar area and accentuates it. The front wall also illuminates the spatial representation of the scene of Pentecost. The God descends through light into the church and altar area. The area in front of the church is conceived as a garden - space that offers not only transit for the entrance to the temple, but also a space for meetings, relaxation, meditation, or praying. The inspiration for this space was a paradise garden inside of the medieval monasteries intended for the rest and contemplation. In these gardens was traditionally found a tree as a symbol of rebirth and a water surface or a fountain. The garden was closed and accessible only to clerics, in our case it opens and takes all believers. The area bordered by arcades creates a transition between the outside everyday world and the sacred space of the church. The outside arcades penetrate into the side ships of the church and become a part of it, the outside world is changing in the internal religious world.

competition for the new city hall _Leopoldov SR|2014 young.s_with Jozef Bátor| Adela Klčová
The intention was to create a proposal of the new seat of the city municipality with adjacent areas in the city of Leopoldov (4130 inhab.). The building for the City Municipality with the administrative part, technical facilities and the city library should establish administrative and social center for the citizens. The point of our proposal is the “SQUARE” as city-forming public space surrounded by public buildings, which has its origins in the Roman Forum, resp. Greek agore. The square is not just a space of assembling and democracy, but also a place for the rest, informal meetings, games, business and entertainment. The program is divided into three separate beildings, that enables a construction in proceeding of stages and operational independance of individual functions. The proposal has a logical functional and operational continuity and also creates a rich visual-spatial structure. The proposal reacts with its scale and intimate character to the size and needs of the small town. By sinking the level of the square about 1 meter, we achieved the feeling of the change of the character of the space / the feeling of intimity, safety, separation from the bussy street, but still beeing a part of the whole. This solutions allowed to create more terain levels of different use. The atractive inner spaces and public functions (like the library reading room or wedding hall) are oriented to the square. The design of the new city hall aims to reach humble but atractive, pure and transparent appearance, that points to its function and its importance. The city fathers are in visual contact with the rest of the town and its citizens, communicates with the surrounding space along with preserving its privacy and quietness needed for the administrative work.

single-family house DOM.S _Prievidza SR|2014_under construction
young.s_with Jozef Bรกtor| Adela Klฤ ovรก
This house was proposed for a young family and is located in a new developing area of family houses close to the block-flat neighbourhood in the city of Prievidza (SR). The sloping terrain and orientation of the plot enabled to divide the house in two storeys - grounfloor with the main entrance and night zone of the house and underground floor consisting of the open space of kitchen, dining room and living room, which is separated from the work space with the patio. The underground floor is oriented to the sunny garden with the terrace. There is also a terrace on the upper floor, accessible from the sleeping room of the parrents as well as from the entrance to the lot. The upper terrace is bordered with the wide flower pots, which are also supplying a railing. The composition of the house consists of simple cubic elements with flat roof. The exterior walls are covered with the white plaster in combination with the wooden cladding. The house fullfills the request of the investors for the contemporary but comfortable design and fits together with the modernist neighborhood.

single-family house DOM.V_Prievidza SR|2014_under construction
young.s_with Jozef BĂĄtor| Adela KlÄ?ovĂĄ| Daniel MudrĂĄk
The house is located on a very small sloping plot between already built-up area of the houses from mainly 60’s - 70’s close to the city center. The investor demanded low-budget one-storey house with the garage. The challenge was to fit the house onto the straitened circumstances along with gain ing enough comfort, sunlight and privacy for it’s inhabitants. The form refers to the traditional pitched roof-house in a contemporary translation. Materials also balance between traditional massiveness and modern simplicity, between warm and cold. The exterior walls are covered with the white plaster in combination with the wooden cladding and metal roof. The bottom floor is covered by the gabion (stone filled cage). The upper terrace is bordered with the wide flower pots, which are also supplying a railing. The house fullfills the request of the investors for the contemporary but comfortable design.

urban intervention |lively non-space_Bratislava|2015
young.s_with Jozef Bátor| Adela Klčová
Vacant lot. Space – non-space. An empty, abandoned, ‘cancelled‘, a trench covered with sheet metal fence pasted with billboards and graffiti scrawls, sometimes used as parking or dump. It is a shame, for it could be more. Even more than the house. It could become space for activities that cannot find their place elsewhere. Activities of civil associations, cultural organizations, activists and ordinary citizens taking place on the periphery, hidden away, unnoticed. Many/most people can not afford to pay high rents in the city centre. In contrast, the city is full of empty vacant lots, which, despite their potential, are growing weed. The Inner block Citizens’ Initiative decided to map these areas out and show their potential in the public space. Our aim is to show part of an endless array of possibilities of their use on the example of a vacant lot at Zupne square and start a discussion between the owners, city, activists and citizens, which could lead to an agreement on the temporary use of these interesting and valuable spaces. They could thus become a public platform for cultural, cultivation, sport, leisure, education… activities that would bring natural life and the dynamics to the city centre.
