Goal of the Master Thesis, was to propose a new function and refurbishment project for a modernist restaurant on the highway on the Walensee Lake, abandoned and obsolete since at least two decades. The goal of the Walensee Boat-Building Learning Center is to completely invert the modernist obsolete schemes, to build a more sustainable and connected future: from objectiveness to singularity, from masses to community, from consumerism to producerism, from thoroughfare to destination. With its proximity to the city of Zurich, the Walensee BoatBuilding Center, will welcome apprentices from around the country, looking to escape from their digital life and reconnect to the nature rediscovering the traditional wooden boat-building skills of the region, which are slowly being lost. The students will be offered different courses ranging from a couple of days to more weeks, where they will learn this art hands in hands with Mr W, a skilled boat builder. The center accommodates up to 10 students and the owner, and welcomes curious visitors arriving from the lake and traveling on the highway to learn about its activities with its semi-public shared spaces and through the new floating pier, which is the link to the local ferry network and offers a public platform on the lake. Inspired by the organisation schemes used in the naval architecture, the building is refurbished in the same way an
old boat would be: only the loading concrete structure is kept, stripped from everything unnecessary and filled with modular and prefabricated wooden cabins, which will ensure the thermal comfort of its users and the best conditions for their activities. The leftover spaces, which are not insulated, host the circulations, deposits and functions with a higher physical activity, such as the building workshop. The ground floor is sheltered with industrial folding doors, and becomes the wooden workshop for the first steps of the boat creation process. From there, the boats travel to the second floor, where they are slowly painted and finished in a second workshop, before crossing the highway through the existing bridge and being launched for a test sail in the lake. The third floor accommodates the cabins of the apprentices and for their tutor. These wooden boxes source from the local forest, rich in spruce timber, the same material which will be used for the construction of the boats. Architecturally, they are modular and composed by 4 different types of sandwich panels, they are completely independent from the existing structure and could eventually be reconfigured for different future needs. On the lake shore, a floating pier is built with the recycled concrete of the internal demolitions of the building. This new extension has the same expression of the internal boxes, and welcomes the visitors who arrive with the new ferry connection, creates a public swimming area and a testing and showcasing area for the boats produced in the workshop.

Objective of the studio was to create a contemporary Machiya for the City of Kanazawa, based on the main characteristics of the traditional Machiya - the typical Japanese town house. The goal of the center is to promote and preserve the cooking culture of Kanazawa City, which is slowly being lost due to the process of globalization. Nowadays people are losing the culture of cooking. Families have less and less time to dedicate to kitchen and often prefer to rely on pre-packaged and processed food. Moreover, since the construction of the Shinkansen train station, Kanazawa has known a huge increase of tourists who over-crowd the nearby Omicho Market, which therefore became less attractive for local people. To do so, the building reinterprets the Machiya and the Palazzo typology in a large-scaled and densely built area of the city. A public passage under the main body, creates a new entrance to the Omicho Market, reactivates the service street on the back, and gives importance to the Ichiime Shrine in front of the plot. The Machiya Palazzo hosts a public cooking school addressed to the citizens of Kanazawa with different cooking areas and a guesthouse for cooking school students. The tenants of these facilities will also live on place and their flats are clustered with shared kitchens and shared living spaces to increase their interaction around the cooking culture.

Objective of the studio was to create an urban strategy for the development of the Port of Havana, after the lift of the Embargo, and dealing with its consequences.
The hotel is spread around the neighbourhood of Regla, and with its revenues it aims to to activate those areas which are less stimulated by increasing the size and the quality of public spaces and helping in the reconstruction of private ruined buildings. The lobby of the hotel is located on Guaicanamar Square, with a new receptive space in the old Cespedes Theatre. Other unused existing structures are activated to offer new facilities, addressed to both tourists and the local community. The rooms of the hotel are inside resident’s houses, which can gradually be improved.

Following the international trend of mini and minimalistic homes, the goal was to propose a ready-made chalet on the Canadian market. Maison Hh has been designed in collaboration with the renowned Montreal design firm À Hauteur d’Homme. The goal was to design a compact home, to be sold online, prefabricated and transportable from the factory to the client, to respond to the traditional Canadian countryside living, with a contemporary ready-made solution. Designed for the new generation of countryside seekers, the small hut is produced with sandwich panels which ensure the insulation for the cold Canadian weather. The big openings let the nature inside, offering a view from the master bedroom which can be transformed on the occasion in a bathtub.

Goal of the studio was to design an appartment block, on a transversal site in the suburbs of Paris, with a public passage and public facilities. Situated in a small neighborhood in the suburbs of Paris, the project is composed by 30 apartments of different sizes and typologies, disposed in two different buildings which scale accords to their surroundings. One of the main goals was to rely the small backstreet and the front street with a public pedestrian passage through the plot. Both buildings lift up from the ground to invite the pedestrians to come across, and let them discover an intimate inner court. A part of it is private and dedicated to the residents with a common garden relied to a common room for neighborhood parties; the other part is property of a school and shared with the public passage. A Laundry-CafÊ is also available on the ground floor, for both the public and the residents. The two wings of the project are significantly different. In the northern wing the apartments are diagonally conceived with views on every direction, and organized around an important transversal distributional space, which aims to be the heart of the building and a social meeting point. In the southern wing, the apartments are all transversal and organized around private patios. They’re conceived more as metropolitan villas with their own privacy and big living spaces.

On the large given block, the objective was to integrate a sport center with other facilities, dealing with the existing structures on the plot: a viaduct and a private building. The big plot is crossed by an old viaduct, which is converted to house the association’s facilities, the shops and the cafÊ. The public spaces are integrated in the archs, the meeting rooms and storages are dug underneath it. To light the underground level, and to light up the beautiful viaduct at night, a double lightening system is conceived in a glass crack along the entire viaduct. The sport facilities are integrated in a monolithic glass building, floating at the level of the viaduct with a cantilever trussed structure which surrounds the main entrance of the building reposing in a concrete basement. From the public square, a descending ramp brings the visitor to a double height hall surrounding the basket court, from where, through a double circulation system - clean/dirty - the athletes can access the wardrobe floor and then the sport courts, and the public can proceed directly to the bleachers.

10 Images pour Lugano: a two semester program with 10 project for the lake-side city. First excercise used the Parco Ciani as landscape for 5 small pavilions. One of the 5 proposed themes was the Flower Pavilion. Inspired by an Haiku poem of the 17th century and an antique Japanese drawing, Zen is a place of calm and contemplation dedicated to a Sakura, the Japanese cherry blossom tree. The visitor is invited to climb on the top of the pavilion to discover a secret garden, regulated by the rules of traditional Japanese gardening, spiritual home of the Sakura. On the ground floor, the pavilion houses a bonsai shop. Conceived like a chapel for a precious relic, it features no openings except for a zenital crack which allows direct sunlight to enter only in the period of the Hanami, the Japanese tradition of enjoying the flowering of cherry trees during the month of April.

10 Images pour Lugano: a two semester program with 10 project for the lake-side city. Second exercise was to design a multifunctional building in a strategic point of the city. The commercial area is located on the first floor of the building, directly accessible from the bus platforms. On this public floor, horizontal circulations are placed at the exterior of the building, leaving the visitors some visual connections to the city and the lake. The upper floors have dedicated lifts which connect directly the school and the offices to the bus hub and the underground parkings. On the private floors, horizontal circulations shift to the interior of the building, leaving space for terraces and views on the facade. The schooling center and the offices are separated on every floor by common terraces and a cafĂŠ to allow exchanges between the two entities. The facade is covered with mat glazed elements which serve as sun screens during the day and illuminate at night transforming the building into a veritable lighthouse for the city and its lake.
