2015 is an important year for Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort, because it marks the beginning of a renovation project by the architect Alberto Cecchetto. The project will be developed over five years and during the first stage - which will be completed by mid-March 2015, before the reopening of the Grand Resort, taking place on April 2nd - will provide for the construction of the new Hotel Bar and enlarging the terrace which houses the Bistrot, the restaurant that opens amid the lush foliage of our great park. The Bistrot will offer fresh Mediterranean fare for a light lunch and a menu with inviting gastronomic delights for outdoor dining on warm summer evenings.

A GLANCE AT THE NEWS FOR 2015 AT DU LAC ET DU PARC GRAND RESORT

6

Doctors Without Borders 5 STAR SOLIDARITY Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort is pleased to announce a new and important initiative. For every booking made exclusively through our website www.dulacetduparc.com the Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort is committed to pay a contribution to a well known worldwide humanitarian organization, Doctors Without Borders. MSF (MÊdecins San Frontières) was founded in 1971, when French doctors, witnesses of the violence and the difficulties that many African people had become accustomed to, decided to lay the foundation for a new organization that was private and nongovernmental. Within a few years, MSF has become an icon in this area and is sometimes the only hope for those most in need, especially in the Third World, forced into a life of poverty and hardship, and often unable to receive proper medical care by their governments. MSF stands for impartiality, neutrality, independence and respect for the work ethic of its fundamental values. Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort fully supports and is committed to disseminate and publicize the group's activity as part of the "Five Star Solidarity" initiative. 500 euro guarantees a safe delivery of newborns to 50 women, through the purchase of medical kits with tools and medical supplies, to offer a safe birth to a pregnant woman and defend the life of her child. 2,500 euro will bring emergency care to 1,000 refugees. 5,000

euro secures a complete therapeutic nutritional treatment for 1,000 malnourished children. The treatment lasts from 2 to 3 months and includes antibiotics, vitamins, vaccines, malaria prophylaxis, treatment for diarrhoea and other diseases. Through this initiative, guests who book their stay on the website of the Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort will participate actively and effectively in the realization of the projects that the volunteers of the organization are implementing around the world, especially in those areas in a state of emergency as a result of bloody wars, terrible natural disasters or devastating epidemics. Because it is a private and nongovernmental, MSF is able to survive and to finance its activities through donations from individuals, corporations and foundations. Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort also aims to raise awareness and inform their guests about the activities of MSF and to highlight the importance of remembering those areas of the world that do not have the opportunity to enjoy the blessings and privileges available in more developed countries. The close sharing of values and principles are the elements that consolidate the agreement between Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort and MSF. We sincerely hope that this initiative, with the help of our guests, will offer tremendous support to those who are truly in need.

MSF is currently operational in over 70 countries, mainly in Africa, South America and Asia. Volunteers are at the forefront in fighting such deadly enemies (such as Ebola, HIV or malaria) and to provide all appropriate assistance to refugees and displaced persons fleeing due to the problems of a socio-economic nature. The efforts and sacrifices of the organization have been recognized in 1999, when MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, a testament to their hard work over the past 40 years.

The enthusiastic words of the writer Carl Torresani allow us to recreate the setting of the park. In 1900 he wrote:

“My delight, my heaven, was the garden. [...] Two streams, terse and spacious, teeming with crayfish, travelling along it in its full length ... At the lakeside there was a harbour with a large boat, the bathing cabins, a small forest of alders, in whose tresses play the Ora, the cool prevailing wind of Garda, who breathes every day during the afternoon hours, mitigates the heat wave by providing a pleasant coolness. In every corner there were bridges, sandstone benches, tiny chapels with ancient frescoes....

During your walks in the park you will have the chance to breathe this atmosphere intact and become acquainted with over 200 species of plants and flowers, some of inestimable value: the deciduous plants, arboreal plants, evergreen arboreals and shrubs, as well as palm trees and bamboo. Considered the most beautiful private park of Garda Trentino, this is also an heavenly place for an incredible variety of fauna that live here, protected and preserved. Near the small streams and ponds that adorn the park you will encounter small animals such as turtles, frogs, fish and ducks that have found an excellent habitat, as well as rodents and harmless reptiles, whose presence you might feel while admiring the beauty of the flora of the park, perhaps near the ancient Taxodium distichum, the bald cypress or swamp cypress, which measures more than 6 m in circumference and whose height exceeds 30 m, or near the elegant Metasequoia glyptostroboides, called China’s “water fir”, as it prefers moist and marshy soil, or the majestic Kashmir Cypress, a massive and impressive conifer, uncommon in our latitudes and with a pyramidal shape. Or maybe in the presence of the old and weeping Sophora japonica pendula, whose branches are stretched and hanging, sometimes down to the ground, often with particularly pronounced undulations and so twisted as to appear artificially obtained; the fragrant Camphor tree, or the great Paulownia, a majestic plant, whose name derives from that of Anna Pavlovna (or Paulowna), daughter of Tsar Paul I of Russia. Continuing to explore the park, you can see more species of plants, whose characteristics and properties can be easily recognized and appreciated thanks to the botanical guide that we have recently implemented. You can also find all the information on the plants of the park by reading the QR-code with your smartphone or tablet; the code is found next to the trunk of many of these fascinating trees.

The sailing club, created to serve the guests of the hotel, has now become an important point of reference for all sailing enthusiasts in the area. Sailing Du Lac offers sailing and windsurfing lessons in the morning, when the gentle winds of Alto Garda Trentino blow in, offering optimal conditions for private lessons for beginners. The lessons last 2 to 3 hours, and after a short theoretical session and simulation on the ground, you move on to the practical phase in water, which is addictive and fun from the very first moment! The Sailing Du Lac offers courses both on sailing dinghies (monohull) and on catamarans for beginners and advanced courses for kids from 5-6 to 12 years with special boats suitable for them. Courses can be started any day and for any length of time. After 5-6 lessons you can achieve a good level of expertise, allowing you to navigate autonomously in light to medium

winds. At the end of the course there is also the option of acquiring a VDWS license recognized all over the world to rent boats of this type. If you want to opt for a less learning-based and more adrenaline focused experience, you can book a “Joy Ride” catamaran, which is an outing on the water for two hours in the afternoon with an instructor and in the presence of strong winds. In this case, the instructor always commands the boat and you will have the opportunity to man the sails. In addition to presenting itself as a leader in the field of nautical sports, Sailing Du Lac also offers bike rental: comfortable trekking bikes and city bikes for quiet rides in the centre or along the trails by the lake and the Sarca valley, children’s bikes of all sizes and baby seats for smaller children. If you are passionate about mountain bikes you can rent the newest Whistle to explore the trails and the most beautiful mountains in the area. You will find a wide range of mountain bikes at your disposal, both with front and full suspension, equipped with helmets and “security pack”, to ensure a safe ride. Or, what do you think of the E-bike? Try out the new Movelo E-Bike, a leading brand in Europe, pedal assisted, efficient and environmentally friendly, and you can visit the wonders of the Alto Garda area, climb easily in the mountains and travel many miles with little effort. There are also comfortable “Flyer” bikes for road trips, light dirt bikes and the “Sport Series” for the most demanding routes.

SUPERHERO HOLIDAYS FOR REAL SUPERHEROES

MINI CLUB 28

Superhero Holidays Sara Bartolozzi Travel writer interviews Claudia Cigalotti Mini Club manager

Claudia, which are the activities that you normally offer in the Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort Mini Club? During the day, our little guests are spoilt for choice: from indoor activities such as crafts, drawing, construction with soft blocks, climbing, and relaxing in the reading room, to the outdoor activities like football matches, battleship games dressed as pirates, endless matches of “Connect 4” and much more. What activities do they enjoy most? They really like crafts like making masks or small pirate swords out of cardboard, perfect for playing with. The small kitchen and the room with the blocks are also great for stimulating the children’s imagination.

Kids... and their parents are very curious... can you tell us what adventures children can expect in 2015? I’ll satisfy your curiosity! The theme for next year will be “Superhero Holidays”, for a truly super holiday, with the great heroes from Batman to Spider-Man, Wonder Woman and Superman... guaranteed fun for everyone! Can you reveal any other news planned for the upcoming season? I can only mention the opening of a new relaxation room called the “Magic Corner”, a softly-lit room with mattresses, rugs and soft toys. But to find out all the other new features we have prepared, you’ll have to come in 2015!

Do you plan entertainment events regularly? Absolutely. Over the course of the week we plan many scheduled events that the children can’t wait for and don’t want to miss: among them, the fun and lively Pizza Party, during which children can enjoy delicious pizzas prepared with fresh ingredients, the Pirates’ Picnic, the Olympics with various sports, the Treasure Hunt in the park for our little explorers, movie nights, outdoor painting competitions, and lots more.

A perfect tour for families is the Giro della Busa, simple, away from traffic and therefore safe for the little ones, running through Arco, Riva del Garda and Torbole. You can cycle almost exclusively on asphalt immersed in the countryside dotted with vineyards and apple orchards and admire the historic centre of Arco, the port of San Nicolò Riva del Garda, the beach of the mouth of the Sarca, the center of Torbole, the ruins of Castel Penede and fascinating “Marmitte dei Giganti”. A special mention goes to the beautiful Garda Sarca Ring, a circular route of medium difficulty, along which you will find yourself surrounded by a stunning Mediterranean atmosphere with olive groves, pine forests, cliffs overlooking the lake, forest trails, and single tracks ideal for lovers of mountain biking. For expert bikers, we recommend the San Giovanni al Monte route, a challenging tour that is a mix of asphalt and dirt roads that lead to the heart of a true alpine landscape, where you can enjoy a wonderful view over the Carè Alto and

over the entire chain of Adamello Brenta and Presanella up to more than 1,000 m in altitude. A further route for relatively experienced bikers is the Monte Velo trail with a paved path and dirt road, starting out bordered by olive groves and the world-famous natural “Policromuro” climbing wall. Here you can enjoy a unique view to your right with the Castle of Arco, opposite Monte Brione with Lake Garda, as a backdrop, for an indescribable feeling. A real gem from a hiking point of view and from an environmental/technical standpoint is the route that passes on the Strada di Ponale and goes up to the Rifugio Pernici, one of the most popular and sought after huts in the region. The tour passes along the bike path with breathtaking cliffs over Lake Garda, and then climbs to the refuge of Val di Ledro, followed by the great descent from the “Bocca di Trat” on to Riva del Garda in a succession of mule trails, single tracks, cement ramps, wide trails and forest roads that go up to 1,500 m in altitude and that give this route the title of “Adrenaline Bike Tour”.

Arco, the birthplace of climbing at an international level, along with Nago, Torbole, Dro, Drena and Riva del Garda offer the very best to practice this sport, not just for experienced climbers, but also for children and families. Just think of the many cliffs that offer the chance to climb, enjoying breathtaking views of the lake, the mountains or the green of the olive trees. From the Belvedere cliff, north of Nago on the southern slopes of Monte Corno, the Calvario cliff, on the right bank of the valley that rises from Arco to Laghel, to the Policromuro cliff, on the north of the valley of San Martino/Massone, the Muro dell’Asino cliff, located almost at the summit of Mount Colodri. And then the Spiaggia delle lucertole cliff, along the eastern Gardesana, the Massi di Prabi cliff, with its limestone blocks on the eastern slopes of Mount Colodri, and Placche di Baone cliff, large limestone slab north of Chiarano-Arco. You will be spoilt for choice! You can’t miss the Rockmaster Climbing Stadium in Arco, which, with its 500 sq.mt. of climbing surface, is home to the Rockmaster Festival, the most famous climbing competition in the world. The event, which has taken place in recent years, will give way to the World Youth Climbing Championship, the biggest youth competition ever for his sport. All fans, as well as all those who want to try this sport, can visit Boulder City, the great boulder hall in the Sarca Valley with over 750 sq.mt. of climbing surface, located twenty minutes from Riva del Garda. This climbing wall is characterized by its 150 climbing routes, on which you can challenge yourself, for all ages and all levels.

TREK KING

Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort is the ideal starting point to try out paths through the woods or near the lake on the discovery of unique natural landscapes and historic treasures.

A TREK... AMID HISTORICAL AND NATURAL BEAUTY A real gem is the Trek of the forts of Mt. Brione, along which you can admire the Austro-Hungarian fortifications built in the late 19th and early 20th century to defend the northern part of Lake Garda. The hike begins at Fort San Nicolò, near the eponymous harbour, between Riva del Garda and Torbole, and goes up a ridge to Fort Garda, which can be visited only on the outside. The trail continues through lush vegetation and, passing through the remains of several military posts, comes to the Fort Batteria di Mezzo, from which you can reach the summit of Mount Brione within minutes. From the top, a military road leading to Fort Sant’Alessandro will then take you to the starting point. A hundred years after the outbreak of the First World War, the work of recovery and restoration of the Mount Brione Forts was completed and this will allow you to better appreciate the important historical heritage, to pause to

ponder the traces of a past war and feel the emotions that are triggered by a landscape that evokes history and memories. Speaking of amazing views, a real “must” is the Malcesine cableway, “a colourful dream of blue from Malcesine to the top of Monte Baldo.” In a few minutes, the cable car will take you, with its rotating cabins that are unique in the world, up to the nearly 1,800 m height of Mount Baldo, called the “Garden of Europe” for its prodigious blooms and the perfect coexistence of diverse natural environments, ranging from Mediterranean to pastures and the rocky character of its peaks. From this extraordinary natural terrace you can not only admire Lake Garda in all its glory, but also take time for hiking, biking and paragliding – experiencing pure freedom in the sky - and then land softly on the shores of the lake.

2015 Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort

During your stay at Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort, don’t miss the typical recipes of Garda Trentino, a real triumph of colours, scents and flavours. Among the local products noteworthy for their uniqueness, we recommend the smoked pork filet, the trout “speck” with organic herbs, the broccoli from Torbole, which are part of the Slow Food designation, the acclaimed vegetables from Val di Gresta, the “valley of the organic gardens”, the delicious white asparagus from Zambana, famous for its delicate flavour, its tenderness and lack of fibre, which is included in the Prodotti dell’Arca by Slow Food and in the Atlas of the traditional products of Trentino. Other specialty products are the Sant’Orsola berries, grown by an organization of farmers specialized in the manufacture and sale of wild fruits, strawberries and cherries; the plums from Dro, purple with a firm texture, rich in potassium and vitamins that have recently obtained the DOP designation, the tasty marroni chestnuts, picked in the woods of Drena, Campi, Tenno and Nago; the typical mountain cheeses, fresh or aged, perfect when paired with local honey; the famous Trentingrana DOP cheese, with its special fragrance, aroma and taste, perfectly balanced between sweet and savoury. And the high-quality organic meat of Val Rendena, the superb lake and river fish, Val di Non DOP apples, Storo polenta, made with yellow corn meal of the “Marano” variety, cultivated in compliance with the cycles of nature, the distinctive Trentino meats, such as speck, carne salada, salami, pancetta and cured lardo, and the DOP extra virgin olive oil from Garda Trentino, whose excellent quality comes from a centuries-old olive cultivation with the utmost respect for nature.

47

We can’t forget the many varieties of Trentino wines: whites, such as those made from Nosiola grapes, perfect with lake fish dishes, or Chardonnay, suitable for an aperitif or served with fish; fullbodied red wines, like Teroldego, Cabernet or Merlot, which enhance the flavour of roasts, grilled meat or game; Schiava and Lagrein, the bases for rosÊ wines, ideal for hot appetizers, carne salada, fresh cold cuts and fish stew; dessert wines such as Moscato Giallo, the Passiti and the excellent Vino Santo. Finally, we must mention the important production of Trento DOC sparkling wine, a direct expression of the land that produces it: a small territory, Trentino, with a varied climate, ranging from Garda, the first glimpse of the Mediterranean world for those arriving from the North, up to the Dolomites, a natural monument and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Arcobonsai Conference Market of Artisans and Creativity “Fairytalenights” Garda Jazz Festival Flicorno d’oro MusicaRivaFestival Garda in Opera Festival In... Canto sul Garda Drodesera Festival

E VENTS

Your holiday at Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort will be enhanced by a number of appealing events.

FAIRYTALE EVENTS... AND FAIRY TALE NIGHTS!

To get things off to a great start is the Arcobonsai Conference from May 1st to 3rd at the Casino Municipale of Arco and the adjoining gardens. To mark their 30 year anniversary, the event will be entitled “European bonsai in Arco”, involving Bonsai enthusiasts from all over Europe. Also in Arco, in the month of August, the Market of Artisans and Creativity will be held, which presents visitors with Italian creative artisanal products, art and local food products. Don’t miss the famous event “Fairytalenights”, which, for the past sixty years, has rung in the holiday season by offering a fun atmosphere for adults and children. This year’s event, to be held from August 27th to 30th, will be dedicated to Little Red Riding Hood, one of the most famous fairy tales, and Riva del Garda will be populated, as if by magic, by girls in red capes, grannies,

58

wolves, baskets of goodies and woods full of mysteries. In keeping with tradition, many things await: performances, workshops, games, concerts and stories for you to experience with your children and, last to top it all off, the amazing fireworks that light up the sky and waters of Lake Garda in vivid colours. If you love music and art, you can attend the many events that will turn the limelight on Garda Trentino. One example is the Flicorno d’oro (Golden Flugelhorn), the 17th international band competition, full of events of great artistic and educational value, held in Riva del Garda from March 27th to 30th, and the Music Festival of Arco, that celebrates the summer solstice on June 21 with a wonderful event that will fill the streets of the town with musical notes and talent: classical, rock, jazz, folk and ethnic music.

2015 Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort

59

60

The MusicaRivaFestival, in Riva del Garda from July 18th to August 2nd, is a major event in the realm of European classical music, where the key event will be a course in musical conducting led by the famous maestro Isaac Karabtchevsky. If you can’t resist the rhythm of jazz, you can’t miss the Garda Jazz Festival in August, which will offer concerts by the biggest names in the international jazz scene in typical places in the area, including castles and idyllic locations overlooking the lake. As in previous years, one of these concerts will be held on the veranda of our Grand Resort. And what about the fascinating world of opera? If you are fans of the genre you really should be in the front row to watch the events organized during the Garda in Opera Festival that, from late August to early September, will offer a breath of fresh air in Garda Trentino thanks to concerts, meetings with various artists, seminars focusing on the world of musical theatre, opera dinners, galas, themed screenings and a competition dedicated to the new voices that are causing a stir in musical conservatries and schools. And finally, In…Canto sul Garda, from October 10th to 14th, during which the best choirs in the world come back to sing at the lakeside, putting on an exciting show. Theatre buffs should not miss the Drodesera Festival, from July 24th to August 1st, the Performing Arts Festival with the latest productions of new and emerging Italian theatre: the event is hosted in the repurposed hydroelectric power plant of Fies, near Dro.

If music and art are the stars of the days and nights around the lake, sports play a major role, too. Biking enthusiasts can witness the Giro del Trentino in April. The Bike Festival, a prelude to the European season of mountain biking in Riva del Garda, from May 1st to 3rd will let you test drive the latest mountain bike models by large producers and participate in a packed programme of spectacular events. Another must-see is the Schwalbe Tour Transalp, a European cycling race in various legs, that comes to Arco on July 4th, the Craft Bike Transalp, also in July, with its final leg Trento-Riva del Garda. For lovers of running, the Lake Garda Marathon in October, with its unique course, is a must, as well as the Half Marathon of Riva del Garda in the month of November. And for soccer devotees? The 44th Trofeo Città di Arco Beppe Viola, the international under 16 youth soccer tournament, held March 12th to 17th in Arco, and the summer retreat of the FC Bayern Munich soccer team in Riva del Garda in July will make every fan’s heart beat faster. Speaking of soccer, we announce the retreat of a prestigious European football team in our Grand Resort. In August 2014, the Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort had the honour of hosting the team of Al-Ahli Dubai Soccer Club, winner of the championship of the United Arab Emirates and the Emirates Cup, and they trained on the sports fields of Riva del Garda and Arco.

Not far from Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort is the city of Rovereto, known for being the home of Mart, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto.

RO VE RE TO 64

Founded in 1987, the building that houses the museum was designed by the famous Swiss architect Mario Botta and the local engineer Giulio Andreolli, who have created an architectural complex inspired by classical models, featuring technical solutions and cutting edge engineering. The permanent collection of MART includes over 15,000 works among paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures, and pays homage to the avant-garde wave of the twentieth century. MART is also part of the House of Futurist Art Depero, which houses the most important works of the Futurist artist Fortunato Depero. To mark the centenary of the First World War, the MART is hosting until 20 September 2015 the exhibition “The war which is coming is not the first one - from 1914 to 2014”, a major project completed by a full accompanying program of events, meetings, conferences and insights. The exhibition diverges from a purely historical reference to provide a wider overview on current conflict. The First World War then becomes the starting point of a large-scale investigation spanning the twentieth century to get to the conflicts of today. Inspired by the famous poem by Bertolt Brecht, “The war which is coming is not the first one. Before, there have been other wars. At the end of the last war there were conquerors and conquered. Among the conquered the common people starved. Among the conquerors the common people starved too”, the museum creates a narrative deriving from an intense journey that has its roots in the wars of a century, finding itself in the most tragic recent history, a journey evidenced by installations, drawings, engravings, photographs, paintings, posters, postcards, letters and diaries that create a dialogue with original documentaries, video, films and war relics.

Also in Rovereto and worth a visit is the Zandonai Theatre, built in 1783 by architect Filippo Maccari. It is the first theatre in Trentino, symbol of the cultural ferment of the aristocracy and the bourgeoisie of the eighteenth century. After the barbarism of the First World War, the theatre was reborn in 1919 with the opera “Francesca da Rimini” by the famous Rovereto-born composer Riccardo Zandonai. In 1924, at the end of the restoration, the theatre was inaugurated in the presence of Prince Umberto of Savoy. After a new renovation, it was reopened to the public on October 18, 2014.

TRENTO MUSE and Castello del Buonconsiglio In the realm of science and unique for its futuristic character, MUSE, the Science Museum of Trento, designed by internationally renowned architect Renzo Piano, presents an exhibition that uses the metaphor of the mountain to tell about life on earth, ranging from elements of the sun and ice, to the issues of biodiversity, sustainability and evolution, to the fantastic tropical greenhouse. The museum is a veritable hub of learning for all ages, with classrooms, teaching laboratories and research spaces. A must for all children from 5 to 12 years of age is the initiative “Night at the Museum”: when the lights go out and the museum is empty, its rooms come alive and open to the exploration by children, who can participate for an entire night in laboratory activities, science shows, treasure hunts and then fall asleep between prehistoric ancestors. 68

In Trento, don’t miss the Castello del Buonconsiglio, one of the greatest monuments of the region, consisting of a series of buildings of different eras, enclosed within the city walls: Castelvecchio, the oldest, the Magno Palazzo, the extension from the sixteenth century, the baroque Giunta Albertiana the end of the seventeenth century and the Torre Aquila, which houses the famous Ciclo dei Mesi, one of the most important paintings of a profane theme from the late Middle Ages. The castle hosts regional collections of archaeology, ancient art, medieval, modern and contemporary art, and is home to temporary exhibitions. It also organizes activities for teachers, courses for schools, workshops and tours for families.

VERONA, CITY OF ART AND LOVE

Verona The tragedy of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, immortalized by William Shakespeare, found its setting in Verona within walking distance of Piazza delle Erbe. According to the legend, at number 23 of Via Cappello, there is the house where Juliet lived, a destination for visitors eager to identify the settings of eternal love. The medieval mansion, picturesquely restored in the 1930s, in the recent past has been used for temporary exhibitions and is known for its famous balcony from which the Shakespearean heroine spoke with Romeo. Inside the building, furnishings of the XVI-XVII century are on display, frescoes on the story of Romeo and Juliet and Renaissance ceramics from Verona. In the courtyard there is a bronze statue of Juliet and a plaque with verses of Shakespeare’s tragedy.

70

The seduction of art, enclosed as in a treasure chest in every side street, the style of true, authentic love that you can feel in the most hidden corners: this is Verona, the city of art and love.

In Verona, love is just a short step away from art and the Arena is the most authentic example. Here, under the magical starry nights of summer, the love of art reaches its apex with the operas: from Nabucco to Aida by Giuseppe Verdi, from Tosca by Giacomo Puccini to Mozart’s Don Giovanni, from the Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini to Romeo and Juliet by Charles Gounod for a perfect synergy between theatre, music and song that gives life to a spectacle without equal in a unique corner of the world. So, travel from Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort to enjoy a day of pure romance in Verona or an evening of great art at the Arena. Upon request, we will be happy to book tickets for the shows you desire, for a truly carefree experience.

Pavilion Zero Future Food District Biodiversity Park Arts & Foods Children’s Park Expo 2015, an event of global significance and certainly of great interest to our readers, will take place in Milan from May 1st to October 31st. The focus is on everything related to food; from the problem of lack of food in some areas of the world to the power of education in issues related to GMO. Among the many topics covered are the improvement of food quality and security in order to ensure healthy food and sufficient drinking water to eliminate hunger, thirst, infant mortality and malnutrition, and prevention of the major diseases of our time, such as obesity, cancer, cardiovascular diseases and epidemics. Other topics are innovation throughout the food chain through research, technology and business support, education about proper nutrition and to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Still others are the diffusion of food traditions as elements essential to the cultural and ethnic preservation of biodiversity, the environment as an eco-agriculture system, and the assurance of new food sources in areas of the world where agriculture is not developed or is threatened by desertification, drought and famine.

Expo 2015 will be divided into five thematic pavilions: Pavilion Zero, that will describe everything that man has produced since it first appeared on earth to date, the transformation of the natural landscape, the culture and rituals of consumption as a starting point for any future project; Future Food District will present possible scenarios related to the application of new technologies applied at each step of the food chain; the Biodiversity Park, where agro-biodiversity will be represented in 8,000 sq.mt with the use of seven large greenhouses that will house more than two hundred species and agricultural varieties; Arts & Foods, real and virtual exposure to great works of art that examine the relationship with food as the subject of a symbolic reflection on the part of the human race in history; and finally, the Children’s Park, a play area, with recreation and education designed for children and families. PRECIOUS PEARLS PRESERVED AROUND LAKE GARDA

Tired of the usual mass tourism destinations and excited to discover treasures of incomparable beauty? At Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort you will be spoilt for choice!

We start with the natural wonders of the Arboretum of Arco, part of the ancient Archducal Park created around 1872 by Archduke Albert of Habsburg near the villa. In the course of the 1960s, miniature landscape environments were created to recall the source of the plants, and in 1993 the park was restructured, becoming a

76

branch of the Tridentine Museum of Natural Science in Trento. Don’t miss the majestic centuries-old monumental trees such as the Californian cypress, the oaks near the entrance, the sequoia evergreen, the Lawson cypress and the giant sequoia also known as the mammoth tree, a real “botanical show”!

And what about Canale di Tenno, a full member of the association of the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy”? Located between Riva del Garda and the plateau of Fiavè, this medieval village still retains the original urban plan, featuring stone houses, some of them decorated with frescoes, and the typical arches that connect the houses to each other. Many artists have fallen in love with this village, including the painter Giacomo Vittone, who portrayed it in some of his works. Canale di Tenno is also famous for the event “Rural Middle Ages”, a festival organized in the second week of August with shows dedicated to Medieval times in an atmosphere in which flags, torch-lit processions, storytellers, costumed characters and Trentino recipes are the stars. After your visit to the village, you must visit nearby Lake Tenno, recognized as the cleanest body of fresh water in Italy and known as “Blue Lake” for its shades of turquoise-blue colour. Located at 570 m above sea level on the slopes of Monte Misone, it is surrounded by unspoilt nature and is reached by a long flight of medieval steps, allowing you to take a walk around the lake. The underground lake passages feed Varone Falls, where the waters rush swiftly with a drop of 90 metres. We highly recommend a visit to Grotto Falls, near Riva del Garda. If you love great views, in Torbole sul Garda you will find the Belvedere lookout point, with views that stretch over the houses and the lake, focusing on the remains of walls dating back to an ancient human settlement or possibly a tower. Truly a magnificent view that will remain in your memory for a long time to come!
