Andrew Charlton: Examining the Myth

Andrew Charlton: Examining the Myth In the 2007 book Ozonomics, noted Australian economist Andrew Charlton seeks to provide the reader an inside look at the myth of what many consider to be Australia’s economic superheroes. As Australia experienced its second longest economic boom in the country’s history, and in a climate where talk of the budget surplus was stagnate and both sides of the political spectrum are claiming responsibility for the country’s prosperity, Charlton seeks to answer such questions as who was really responsible, if it really matters and what it really means to Australia and its future.

Andrew Chalrton, formerly an advisor to Kevin Rudd, provides both insightful and entertaining analysis and examination of these questions, seeking to shed some light on exactly what is to be believed. His argument is that the economic headlines of the day are deceptive and irrelevant and that such issues as immigration, workers’ rights, investment in technology and education, and protectionism are vital, in numerous ways for the future of Australia. Seen by many to be very entertaining, forthright and compelling, Ozonomics looks to show readers exactly why economics matter and how the topic is far more fascinating and relevant than they had ever considered. Andrew Charlton also co-authored Fair Trade for All: How Trade Can Promote Development with Nobel Laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz. He is also the author of two quarterly essays: Man Made World: Choosing Between Progress and Planet and Dragon’s Tail: The Lucky Country After the China Boom. He received much of his education in economics from Oxford University, and was chosen as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in the year 2010. He also won the Edgeworth Prize for the best doctoral thesis in economics at the University of Oxford.
