SEXTANTIO HOTELS

MATERA, ITALY + SANTO STEFANO DI SESSANIO, ITALY

Sextantio’s projects aim to protect ‘minor’ or poor historical heritage through principles of philosophic identity. The first project was implemented in a medieval hilltop village in Southern Italy, Santo Stefano di Sessanio (Sextantio Albergo Diffuso); the second in the Sassi of Matera, a town that has a millenary historical and architectural sedimentation and where its inhabitants lived in caves until the early post-war period (Sextantio Le Grotte della Civita). Finally, the third project was implemented on an island in Lake Kivu in Rwanda, using information obtained from the Ethnographic Museum in Butare (Sextantio Huts). The core idea of these projects, based on an authentic identity perspective with regard to the historical and cultural aspect, is to create an economic return not only for the company that implements them (in the case of Rwanda, it will be an NGO that will finance health insurance in the country), but also and more generally for the entire host territory.
