Idea MAPPING The quarter started with the idea of creating a holistic wellness center focused around the way nature can heal and the way we can heal bees.
Through research I landed on a path that lead further into the incorporation of holistic practice and really fell away from the idea of bees.

Project Proposal
Complementary and alternative care is an undervalued resource in the medical field. 45% of the US population has at least one chronic condition.. Overuse of pharmaceutical drugs in America is a growing issue leading to debilitating medical expenses. If 69% of women and 58% of men say they are interested in alternative medicines, then why are there so few realistic options to seek this kind of care? This center is meant to target citizens of any age range that are experiencing hardship from a chronic illness. To create this kind of facility, it is important to include the value of the word Complementary. Reinforcing the idea that this isn’t a one size fits all facility. For some, medication mixed with natural care will be the solution. Others, this treatment may be all that is needed. For the client, Pure Life Clinic, this will be a facility focused on creating a plan that works for all kinds of users. The main issues targeted in this experience will be how to creating a facility that runs on the lowest income possible, to make a
realistic option for people in all income levels. The research here is on the methods for wellness; controversy in western medicine and the use of pharmaceutical drugs; kinds of physicians that practice these methods; ways to combine the use of western and alternative medicines; and how to bring awareness to this subject and help to educate the public on these options.

In what category would you classify your pain?
Information Gathering ABIGAYLE ALLEN Age: 41 Illness: Hip pain, rolling ankles, hernia, chronic kidney stones Family: Husband and three children
What kind of treatment approach to your pains do you take now? I definitely take a concerning amount of aleve and ibuprophen. I also take magnesium every night for kidney stones. My doctor actually told me to just stop eating calcium and oxides, which are both great for you and in most foods, because they didn’t know what was wrong with me. But I figured out if I take magnesium at night, then my body absorbs the calcium and oxides instead of them building in my kidneys Do you find alternative resources to be easily accessible to you? No because I live in a very rural area and I don’t trust a lot of the information out there. It’s hard to know what’s credible, especially when your Internet is your biggest asset Having three kids, a job, and a husband, what would this facility need to provide in order to be attainable for you? I would need really good visiting space and time for my family, a flexible diet and an understanding that being on these kinds of diets is really hard for some people to adapt to, & an option to a short term treatment. I wouldn’t be able to go to one of these facilities for a very long time if there wasn’t a short term (3 day) option. Do you find that holistic practices are overly expensive? No, I generally notice that my supplements tend to be less expensive than the prescribed stuff. Conclusions: This kind of care is an option, even for people in more complicated bracket. Abbie has three kids and a husband to manage, but if this were an option and was adaptable to her situation, it is something that she would consider. 14

Focus on natural materials is important to my holistic approach
Learning how to create lighting that emulates a natural environment in a building that has no windows.
Use inspiration from the concept imagery to create a more earthy feel in the materials to promote a connection with nature.
Volume:
Organization:
The main buildings have vaulted ceilings that are double height, I want to create spaces that are enclosed within the vaulted space to create an open and comforting feel while also considering the need for privacy in the practitioners spaces.
Promote movement throughout the space using the circulation that emulate the feeling of progression and retention during activities that inspire healing and growth. 58
