Aberdeen City Council Competition Winners
WORLD BOOK DAY COMPETITION This year, World Book Day took place on Thursday March 3 rd. We joined in with this celebration of reading by running a competition for Aberdeen City’s children and young people, aged 3-18. In order to enter, youngsters were asked to submit a photo of themselves reading their favourite book in an interesting or unusual place or situation. They also had to write about what they were reading, where they were reading it and what they really liked about their book. We had around 400 responses. The entries were a joy to receive and judge because, without exception, they showed incredible creativity and imagination. We had youngsters reading books in mid-air, in the dentist’s chair, on a ski slope, on horses, in a graveyard….. you name it! It was hard to whittle down so many outstanding entries but we did. Thank you to everybody who entered. The overall winner was Charlie Miller from the Nursery at Danestone Primary. The prizewinners in each category were: 3-8 TOP 10

The prizes were presented by Craig Brown in the boardroom at Aberdeen Football Club and the ceremony was followed by a very informative tour of the stadium. Charlie Miller and Sean Black made a special guest appearance on Shmu’s Reading Radio when it was broadcast by Walker Road Primary on 31st March. Charlie was a wee bit shy, so Sean stepped in to answer questions and read from Charlie’s book on his behalf. Sean was a complete natural. I reckon we are looking at a future star of the airwaves!
