01 CENTRAL LIBRARY MA CHUNG UNIVERSITY, MALANG

Architectural Design V Year 3rd 11

Issue Based on the "Most Littered Nation in the World" study by Central Connecticut State University in March 2016, Indonesia was ranked 60th out of 61 countries in terms of reading interest. For the East Java area itself based on BPS data in 2016 it is not included as a province with high reading interest. Province with Highest Reading Interest Graph Kep. Riau

94,01%

DKI Jakarta

93,10%

Bali DIY

92,44% 91,00%

However, based on a survey by Airlangga University in 2013 interest in reading in East Java was 43%. In 2014 it was 56% and in 2015 it was 65.5%. This proves that reading interest in East Java is increasing from year to year. East Java Province Reading Interest Graph 2013 2014 2015

43% 56% 65,5%

One solution that can support increasing interest in reading, is to build a library. The chosen location is Malang City because there are many universities. The specic location chosen was Ma Chung University, with reason that it is a young and developing university. In addition, this university also does not have a library building that can accommodate existing students.

Object Description Profession : Doctor Style : Minimalist Characteristic : Neat, clean

Thematic Religion

: Elderly : Christian

Concept The living room will leave an impression for guests who come to the house. Therefore, the living room is designed according to the nature and character of the owner of the house. This room is a room that is used by all family members. However, it is more often used by grandmothers because they have a friendly character so that when they receive guests they will talk for a long time. The furniture used pays attention to comfort and safety, especially for elderly users. The use of furniture with handrails will make it easier for the elderly to sit and stand from a chair, as well as simple legs to reduce the risk of the elderly stumbling.

Floor Plan

The site with an area of ±290 m2 is used as a multi-function building. The elongated form of the site provides its own challenge. On the 1st oor there is a restaurant along with a kitchen, restrooms and parking lot. On the 2nd oor there is a co-working space and an ofce. The restaurant area with an open concept makes the area feel wider. The choice of color palette on the exterior is made to complement the restaurant branding color palette.
