Design Your City: “Urban Farming 2.0” Result: 2nd Place Type: Open Idea Competition Host: Copenhagen University LIFE
Result: Honorable Mention Type: Invited Competition Host: Gallery Yard + KADK
Summary: I participated with a vision for the homeless in Copenhagen. I suggested an economical model in which the homeless would be given a dwelling in the form of a transformed container in exchange for work at urban farms and greenhouses. The income from the local produce, would be shared among the homeless workers.
Summary: Our class was invited to suggest a new installation for the Gallery Yard in Refshaleøen through the use of old railway sleepers. To me the sleepers themselves showed great beauty, and I decided to preserve their raw aesthetic by making an entrance for the gallery where they were used as outdoor flooring.

PAPER ISLAND UTOPIA Location: Christiansholm, Copenhagen City Scale: L Chronology: 6th Semester
This model assignment focused on creating a 1:200 model for a utopian vision for Copenhagen’s Paper Island - an island formerly used as a warehouse for newspapers and magazines. My project focuses on how to create low-priced dwellings for common Copenhageners so that they can move closer to the harbour while also accepting the existance of high-income housing. In my vision, this is achieved by planning low-rent houseboats that can occupy the canals of highincome residential development areas. This will create an informal pirate city in the canals and thereby create a new dynamic and diverse type of cityplan for Copenhagen’s harbour. Mentor(s) Anders Lonka, ADEPT Architects
6
Chosen among selected projects for showcase in occasion of a visit from HRH Princess Mary and Finland’s First Lady, Jenni Elina Haukio at KADK.
Dynamic Canal City Due to the low-rent houseboat solution, it is expected that the local population will change often, always generating new communities in different zones within the canals of the project site. The houseboats can also function as commercial hubs such as cafĂŠs, galleries and shops, further creating ever-changing experiences in the canals.

HYLLIE MASTERPLAN Location: Hyllie, Malmö Scale: XL Chronology: 5th Semester
Mentor(s) Anders Lonka, ADEPT Architects
10
The development of Hyllie is a large scale city-plan assignment, which allows us to critically rethink the current masterplan, which seams to repeat the mistakes of Copenhagen’s Ørestad plan. With a new regional station, the new Hyllie masterpan is to be a vital transportation hub for the Southern Malmö area. I chose to emphasis on the mobility qualities of this, and use the oppurtunity to create a green highway connection that connects the station and the new area to the existing Malmö allowing a car-free bike route to the center of Malmö in under 15 minutes. As for the cityplan itself, my focus has been to plan different mini-societies within the large masterplan, in order to attract a new diverse population, while also integrating the troubled neighbourhoods around the site.
To the right: An illustration of the site’s location in MalmÜ as well as the existing and newly created connections. A great emphasis on the project was to connect the new Hyllie with the existing surroundings and thereby create an integration through the connection. Site Green Connection Regional Railway

Recreational City The recreational city is directly or indirectly connected to the green highway and emphasizes on a recreational infrastrucure with various sports and activity areas located in green environments. This typology is well suited for integration with the existing troubled areas, due to its great diversity in activites for the local youths.
Commercial City The commercial city is a dense typology that simulates urban life. This typology features most commercial venues, as well as hotels, offices, etc. It is commonly located by well connected areas of the site, such as the station area and the highway border area. The station area features a pedestrian shopping street as a local economical driver.
Local-Society City The most common typology. This typology is created inspired by Tokyo urbanplanning, where a typology block is enclosed by larger structures, thus creating a mini society within its borders. The small societies created within the built borders will feature slow and diverted traffic, allowing for a street life similiar to Copenhagen’s KartoffelrÌkkerne.

The Atlas of the Copenhagen(s) project is the result of a long term academical research assignment. The project was created in collaboration with the department, resulting in a print-ready atlas. The focus is on researching different aspects of Copenhagen and the Øresund Region, while critically analyzing the regional politics, economy, sustainability and other subjects on the region. The themes are explored through graphical casestudies, infographical diagrams, as well as studies of specific areas and typologies and their impact on Copenhagen and Øresund. Page 16 and 17 each display two pages from four of the eight chapters in the atlas. The Atlas of the Copenhagen(s) has been approved for publishing and is in the process of editing. The final edition is funded by Dreyers Fonden.

THE YOUNG DEMOCRACY
THE SOCIAL REFORM
Throughout the Industrialisation, the Modernisation changed the live of the society. Development of infrastructure and railways took a significant part of these period
The introduction of a parliament and the Womans Rights movement were the main events. The Social Democrats arose rapidly. Despite wars and worldwide crisis, the period was marked by economical progress. The agriculture was still the main industry. Creation of unemployment insurance fonds.
WELFARE STATE
The political agenda was about distribution of wealth in the society. State, municipalities and counties took an active roll in the building of the city. The government supportsed construction of housing. Construction of housing was mostly taking part in the outer city.
POST OILCRISIS
NEO LIBERAL
The transformation from an industrial society to a post industrial society had begun. The period was characterised by crisis. Unemployment and segregation grew. The danish welfare state housing policy was being questioned. There was a great drop in construction of houses in the outer city.
Copenhagen is competing with other cities in Europe. Private Actors are taking a bigger part in city planning. Public sector has taken an entrepreneurial form. The agenda is changed from distribution to economical growth. There is a increased focus of the inner city.

Especially in the areas around Inner Copenhagen, the notion of an “old population” is introduced. In the future, the people in the working age will have to provide for a larger number of people aged over 64.

Nørrebro district is situated northwest of the lakes in Copenhagen. With 74.129 inhabitants divided on 4,1 km2 (2011), the district has the highest population density in Copenhagen. Nørrebro is described as a cosmopolitan and multicultural district; Most of the inhabitants are young people, students, artists and people of other ethnicity than Danish. Over the last 10 years the cultural life has grown to include a large number of shops, cafĂŠs, and restaurants, side by side with shawarmahouses and halal butchers. In the Middle Age the village Serridslev was situated where Raadmansgade meets Tagensvej. The rest of Nørrebro was green area with domestic animals, and later became a popular place for weekend trips for the Copenhageners. In the 70th the old buildings at Inner Noerrebro were demolished to allow new prefabricated houses for housing associations. This changed the demography around Blaagaards Plads. Our assignment was to plan a housing area in the Greater Copenhagen suburb of Hareskovby. The area is located on a site bordering to a villa area, a forest, a stream, a horse farm and a small brewery. Due to the site being located in a safe and quiet environment next to nature, I decided to focus the housing for families with children and teenagers, since I envisioned it as a great place to grow up. On the large scale, I used the oppurtunity to connect the existing villas with the forest while creating new areas for recreation between the new houses. This is done by distorting classical rowhouse typologies into a near clusterhouse typology, thus creating varied small spaces between for different activities. The interiors of the houses are designed to suit all members of the family. In example, teenagers have a room that is accesible without contact with the parents which is practical for privacy. The houses furthermore function with natural daylight and heating from roof windows.
Above: Principle for the shaping of semi-public recreational spaces between the houses.
Natural Daylight and Solar Heating The houses are optimized for maximum daylighting all year round. Solar heating is exploited from the south while conserving heat to the north during winter. During summer, the roof windows regulate the indoor heat by releasing the hot air with a chimney effect.

The Longhouse Pavilion project is located at the forest boundries of Hareskoven in Greater Copenhagen. The raw nature of the site made me think of the early days of the North, when man was directly dependant on his natural environment. This furthermore made me think of the Viking Longhouses - the large wooden structures that were a kind of mini-society of their own. My interpretation attempts to give the building’s users a glimpse of the simple life of the past, and one where man is close to nature. The shape of the building itself is a direct abstraction of a longhouse. The building is completely selfsustaining, with heating being dependant on an interior fireplace during winter. The project is meant to live up to Cradle to Cradle standards, with 100% recyclable components, except only for a concrete foundation.
Inspired by traditional longhouses, the roof has openings for natural ventilation. The foundation of the building is of concrete and the only unrecycleable component of the structure The roofing in the front covers the large glass opening in order to prevent heating from direct sunlight during summer, while allowing so during winter.
The structure is built of naturally treated wood that is completely recycleable.
The building is partially below ground level in order to exploit natural heating from the ground during winter, and natural cooling during summer.
23
Above (from top to bottom): Elevation and section. The section shows a long table element, which is of concrete integrated within the foundation. This acts as the central gathering point for social interaction within the structure.

This 1:1 project was meant as an exercise in the wood workshop. The result was to be an organizer for our desktops. Since I usually keep an orderly desktop, my only need was a practical item that could keep and hold my papers and books which usually would lie in piles on my desk. The concept of my desktop organizer was to make it seam like a movement that rises out of the desktop. The edges were made sharp in order to make it seam like it was almost a piece of paper, moving out of the desk. The item consists of MDF wood with a glossy coating on the functional paper-bearing planes.

The project was to transform the interior of an old transformer building into an experience center for light. I tackled this assignment by first taking a look at the scientific aspects of light. This led to a study of the refraction of light in the different layers of the atmosphere and resulted in a three dimensional interpretation of the movement of light in the atmosphere. The three dimensional spaces were created by filling the interior of the old transformator building with a single planar element and thus creating an experience path, where light and shadow are experienced in different ways throughout the structure.

This was an assignment located on the island of Hven, in the middle of Øresund. Despite its small size, the island features a great variety of natural experiences, from fields and beaches to forests and hills. The odd diversity of nature gave a sort of mystical natural feeling, which inspired my design. My sauna is located in one of the denser forests on the island. It is meant to be a sort of secret hut, hidden away in the woods. The shape of the sauna itself is a simple, minimal abstraction of the local gable houses, and stands as a mysteriously misplaced man-made object in the wild woods. As for the indoor experience, I have created a skylight that allows shadows of leaves and branches to be projected on the interior wall, creating a relaxing display of shadows and reminding the visitors of the nature outside.
