! Spain is Europe’s second most mountainous country and has plenty of skiing centres, thirty-five in fact. Although associated with the sun as a holiday destination Spain offers a wide range of sports and has a long tradition of skiing and the principal RTVE television station offers up to date information of the slopes on Thursday night weather forecasts during the season. This information is garnered from the Spanish Tourist Board.! One of the luxurious attractions of the Costa del Sol is being able to ski in the Sierra Nevada in the morning, sun bathing on the beach in the afternoon and enjoy a lovely meal and drink in a restaurant overlooking the Mediterranean. ! The Sierra Nevada is a popular weekend ski destination for many people who live in the Costa Blanca and can drive a few hours to these skiing resorts. Many people associate Madrid with the song describing “the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain� but Madrid has easy access to several excellent ski resorts with terrific facilities, most with alternative pursuits to skiing. A typical Galician Mountain resort with a broad range of tourism/sporting activities available, allowing for year-round opening. La Molina is located in the Pyrenees in the province of Girona. La Molina is at an altitude of 1700 m with lifts going up to 2445 m. The Masella ski resort, located on the north face of La Tosa mountain, is an outstanding vantage point overlooking the sunny valley of La Cerdaña. Masella is set in the midst of a dense pine forest and 90% of its slopes are oriented towards the north; both these factors favour snow conservation and enables skiers to enjoy what is one of the longest seasons in the Pyrenees. At the base of the resort there are green slopes for beginners and a snow garden for younger skiers. The runs through the woods offer skiers the chance to enjoy nature, and the higher levels guarantee all the thrills of alpine landscapes and pistes which won't disappoint even the most expert skiers and surfers. Masella has the greatest difference in height in the Eastern Pyrenees, with an uninterrupted descent of 935 m from the summit of La Tosa (2,535 m) to the Pla de Masella (1,600 m). It has a total of 74 km of pistes to suit all levels, so that everyone is guaranteed a perfect day's skiing at Masella. For the maximum convenience of surfers and skiers, there is a full range of services at 1,600 m at the foot of the slopes, where all the pistes converge.!
