“Leadership is a social role — not a mere personality trait. By ideas, encouragement, and deeds, leaders show the way and influence the behavior of others. This is leadership!” — Larriane Matusak

Growing Garden City with three co-existing leadership development programs

-1-

In February of 1988, the Board of Directors of the Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce named a task force to analyze and make recommendations regarding the feasibility, implementation and operation of a Leadership Garden City Program. David Stephens, Phil Dick, Betty Jo Roberts, Roberta Mages, Bob Halloran and Carol Meyer were a part of the original task force. Leadership Garden City is an innovative program sponsored by the Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce. Its aim is to identify, develop and motivate individuals in our area for positions of community involvement and civic leadership. Garden City will be a place where there are all kinds of leaders; where there is a wide and varied web of relationships through which people solve their common problems; and where everybody has an opportunity to play a role in the decisions made for the community.

Merry Christmas from Dodge Happy New Year! Our 2004 has been quite an experience, and it looks as if 2005 will be even more exciting. Over the holidays last year, we decided to start the process of adopting a baby girl from China. (Most of you know this already, but this is what has consumed our year). In January, we began the paperwork to bring our daughter home and it looks as if we will be traveling to get her sometime in late February or early March. It was six months of paperwork and waiting on the federal government, but we successfully submitted our dossier to the Chinese Center for Adoption Affairs on July 7. We’ve been waiting ever since. While we’ve been waiting, we’ve kept ourselves busy. We’ve grown our communication consulting business, D&A Communications, and have also grown our catering business, Occasions

by D&A. Both of these ventures have kept us busy and have paid for our adoption expenses so far. Along with the new businesses came a new website, www.andydanastanton. com. This is a place where we can tell our adoption story, share some information about us and a place to promote our businesses. When you get a chance, check it out. Jackson continues to grow and he keeps us hopping. He turned 4 in August and is very excited about getting a baby sister. We moved his bedroom to the main floor of our house in July and he loves his new dinosaur room. Jackson attended his first week of vacation bible school in June and loved it. He also spent the summer months at preschool. This Christmas, all he wanted from Santa was a “fast motorcycle and a ‘mote-control T-Rex.” Well, Santa delivered both on Christmas morning and our house has turned into a motorcross track! Dana continues as the Public Information Coordinator for Dodge City Public Schools and keeps Andy in line with both of our businesses. She took on a new responsibility this fall at our church, as the director of the Cherub Choir (1st3rd grades). Andy is still promoting Dodge City tourism as Director of the Dodge City Convention & Visitors Bureau. He has had a busy year with visitors from around the world. He traveled to New York City, Las Vegas and Tucson, Arizona working with group tour operators, economic development officials and travel

The Referral is in! We received these photos of Gracie on January 7, 2005. We will travel to get her in late-February/early March.

journalists, along with several trips to Topeka visiting with state officials. Our passports are ready and the bags will soon be packed to head to China. This year has been a life-changing experience and we know that 2005 will be even better. If you want to join us on our China adventure, please log on to our website, www.andydanastanton.com for travel updates.
