Greatest Mother in History What do mom, madre, mutter, maa and 媽媽 have in common? They all mean the same in different languages, Mother. Although our cultures may vary, universally, she is the one who loves, cares, understands and nurtures us unconditionally. Her eternal love makes us feel secure and special. A mother is a guardian, but also much more, she is an angel, protecting her children.

A mother never requests reciprocation because she bears pain just to see her children happy. Can you imagine a woman sharing the same level of love and care with each person she meets?

Loving your children can seem somewhat easy, but it definitely takes a big heart to do it selflessly for everyone you meet. This woman is none other than Mother Teresa.

Born and brought up in Macedonia, she received several lifetime achievement awards, including a Nobel Peace Prize laureate in 1979. She spent most of her life in dedication, feeding and serving the poor in India. She was incredibly selfless, only wearing a plain white sari with a blue border. Being a woman, she did not care to adorn herself with jewelry, and all that glorified her personality was a religious Christian Cross. It gave her inner peace, strength and motivation to continuously do good for others.

The Great Saint not only cared for others, but also founded many charities, including ‘Missionaries of Charity’. This famous charity is active in 133 countries and over 4,501 religious sisters are proactively involved. In 2003, she was beatified as ‘Blessed Teresa of Calcutta’.

Mother Teresa was certainly the greatest ‘Mother’ in history and our Mother’s Day will remain incomplete without having her in mind. Let’s pay our tribute to her and pledge in our hearts to help poor and those in need with all our love, as she always said, “It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.
