4 A New Species

01 A New Species

Frumetali Dasypus

The Nest This is where the Metadillo’s home exists. The Metadillos make a home together in a desired location and build a nest to live in. It protects them and their young.

Origin Discovery of a New Species

A new species of critter-bot was discovered recently by Dr. Angelina Ryane. She found the critter outside of her upscale apartment in downtown Milwaukee one night while taking out the trash. The name of this new species, a critter-bot, is called a Frumetali Dasypus. In Latin, this translates to “Metadillo and is closely related to some animalia that already exists on the planet. It has the body style of an armadillo, a scavenger personality like a raccoon, but is much friendlier and non-confrontational.

6 A New Species

Metadillo The Metadillo is a critter-bot that stands anywhere from 8-12 inches tall and weighs around 20 pounds depending on what the Metadillo’s body is made out of. It has a lifespan of about 12 to 15 years and lives in a variety of environments. It might even be living in your neighborhood. The Metadillo likes dark places and is more active in the nighttime. The metadillo spends most of it’s waking hours searching and foraging for food, as well as taking care of the family unit.

8 A New Species

History of Metadillos The metadillo does not have a very long history. This newly discovered species goes back only about a decade. As of right now, the only known information is about their basic living styles, how they reproduce, and vaguely what they eat.

9 Frumetali dasypus

Appearance and Personality This species looks like a metal version of an armadillo, but it possesses the personality of a raccoon. Each of the species has a different shape and size to their bodies that ranges within the average, and are also birthed from different types of metals. Most of the species is shy and nocturnal; however, many of them are mischievous, but friendly.

12 A New Species

Habitat The metadillo can live in a wide range of places: allies, streets, neighborhoods, backyards, garages, as well as garbage hills and disposal plants. They are mostly gatherers and scavengers. They hunt for electricity as it is a treat! In our world, the metadillo would most likely resemble a raccoon. The environment that these creatures live in is very urban and dark. It is rich in man-made products and lacking in nature.

11 Language Metadillos have a language called Tumultu, Latin for noise. They can make noises such as clicking, purring, humming, etc. Different noises and how they are communicated to one another can signal different emotions.

Intelligence They are not capable of thoughts and intelligence like humans, however, they can develop relationships. Typically, Metadillos can have the intelligence similar to an IQ score around 39, which represents having the ability to communicate, eat, bath, toilet, etc, but no academic skills.

02 Life and Survival

Into the Wild

The Alley Hunting is an important task in the metadillo lifestyle. They look for man-made trash as well as smaller prey, such as the Metaltoid for example. Most of their food is found near the nest in the alley.

15 Frumetali dasypus

Metadillo Life Surviving in the Urban Jungle

Living in urban environments can be difficult for the Metadillo. It faces a variety of challenges in order to survive. Hunting and gathering food is an important task when living in these environments and can also be the most dangerous.

15 Frumetali dasypus

Diet and Nutrition A wide range of materials can be the source of food for these creatures. Metadillos gather, Scavenge, and Hunt man-made materials, oil and Electricity. They also prey on smaller types of critter-bots. One in particular they hunt is called a Metaltoid. It is a small, bug-like bot that has the defense of shooting tacks. They do not have a basic need for water because ingesting water will make them rust from the inside out.

A Place to Call Home

omadic species

This species makes their home by burrowing in the ground. Although they prefer to be a static species, creating a comfortable permanent home, they can be nomadic species if necessary. They search for comfortability and tend to avoid people and other species.

03 Anatomy and Physiology

Biologically Speaking

When making the next generation Metadillo, the Junkyard is a popular spot to find quality parts and pieces.

19 Frumetali dasypus

Head to Tail Components of Metadillos

Metadillos are made up of many different components. They can be comprised of several different materials but prefer to be constructed from metal and harder materials in order to posses their protective trait. There are also some parts that are passed down onto another generation when an elder dies. Metadillo’s are savvy creatures and get creative when it comes to creating the anatomy of their offspring.

19 Metadillos need two of the species to reproduce; however, it is not gender specific because they can change genders, like certain species of fish, in order to keep the species alive. The mating ritual involves two special pieces that each partner brings together and fuels the joining with electricity. The average number of offspring is one. Health Like other species, they can get sick, and heal at about 2-3 days depending on what they are sick with. When they are injured, their partners and friends all make an effort to aid the sick one. When they get to be a certain age (around 9 or 10 years) they begin to rust inevitably. They usually live till about 12 or 15 years, but some may live shorter or longer. They can be killed by a range of things; other creatures, cars driving, other Metadillo’s. When they die, their bodies will eventually rust and disintegrate over time.

Ears

They have poor Eyes eyesight, especially in daylight

Nose Light

The light in their nose is the special characteristic that allows them to hunt and maneuver in the dark

Although they Feet have short legs, Metadillos can run up to 30 mph

Metadillo’s have a keen sense of hearing to detect danger and find their prey

21 Frumetali dasypus

Light Armor

This armor is not the main defense; it serves to gently protect the Metadillo while keeping it cool and comfortable

Heavy Armor

Their tough armor; it protects against predators and the outside elements

Tail

The function of the tail is to keep their balance

Society and Social Interaction

Metadillo to Metadillo

The Neighborhood Metadillos are a friendly crew of critters who like to gather in the neighborhood and interact with each other.

25 Frumetali dasypus

Interaction Compassionate Critters

Metadillos have a unique style of interaction socially within their family units as well as in society. They have a gentle personality and aim to reject confrontation. The coexistence of metadillos within a similar family unit or community is a beneficial for protection of the unit as well as keeping the species close and dependent on each other for survival.

Coexisting Most Metadillos prefer to travel with a partner or close friend and (if any) offspring. They do this in order to be more aware of predators and for safety. They also live in family units consisting of elders and offspring. They are a species that tends to watch each other’s backs.

25 Frumetali dasypus

Mating Metadillos are a species that mate for life. They do not tend to change mates, but they can if things don’t work out. They’re mating process is pretty simple. One female finds a male and they become partners if they like each other. They’re “mating process” is based on the two of them building their offspring. They go out and scavenge for parts and pieces to build the skeleton, smell trait, the light in their nose, as well as armor for protection. Ideal Partner

“Beauty” for this species can be attributed to the polish of their metal armor as well as slight color details. In a potential mate, the shinier and more colorful, the more attractive.

26 A New Species

Roles in Society There are roles within the society of these creatures. Although The genders are treated as equals, since they have the ability to shift, there are still roles. The females take on motherly roles, just like humans and most species. Only when the females are caring for young is when the males are solely the ones gathering food. Without young, both genders gather food and care for one another. Elders are considered to be honorable. They do not have search for food or fulfill other needs, however, they do help with the young while the parents take care of the responsibilities. If solitary Metadillos are looking to join another unit’s living situations, the one looking to join must provide offerings and help the others with survival tasks. They must share equal amounts of effort in order to survive.

Taboo There is only one taboo in society, basically “Don’t go out during the day”. These animals are nocturnal and more productive during the night, whereas the day time can be dangerous. If one of the members of the family unit leaves during the day, it is possible that their partner does not let them back in for an amount of time or they cannot return until they bring back a gift for their partner.

Family Units

Relationships

Metadillo’s value the idea of a family unit and taking care of each other. They aim to protect each other and survive. The unit is run by the elders and consists of generations of offspring. Once in a while, a family unit will accept a non-generational metadillo into the unit, but they mush reach special expectations and provide offerings in order to prove their dedication to helping the unit.

In relation to other species, most living/existing species, especially the ones that are around the same size or smaller, are relatively frightened. When it comes to larger animals, the Metadillo tries to stay out of the way and usually doesn’t come in contact. When it comes to, say, a raccoon, the raccoons are friendly with the Metadillos as they share similar survival skills.

05 Predators and War

Confrontation

The Underground To avoid confrontation, Metadillos are fond of the underground where they can bury themselves and hide.

31 Frumetali dasypus

Defense Dealing with Confrontation

The idea of war and fighting is not a characteristic of the species. They are a groups that runs and hides from danger and predators, but they do have a protective coat of armor for defense. Even though the species is non-confrontational, there are some circumstances in which metadillos get into a feud with other metadillos.

30 A New Species

Reason for Confrontation Typical reasons for going to war on their own kind would be if one of the members are not being fair to the rest of the group and either hoarding food for themselves, or if they are lazy and not helping the rest of the clan. As for war on another species, they more-so go into a defense mode.

31 Frumetali dasypus

Non-Confrontational They have a stealthy operation of going into a defense mode. They retreat underground and basically run away. They don’t really have warriors. They just run away from their problems. The leader of each family unit, usually an elder, has a role in war to lead the members to safety. There is a strategy of digging underground, which the younger, healthier members do, and finding safety/shelter. If warfare needs weapons, they tend to use physical skills in order to fight or confuse the enemy.

Their endurance levels are high so they could lead a chase for some time and tire out the enemy. Metadillos like to dig tunnels to escape their enemies. They are an invasive species; They don’t like confrontation. Their advantage is not getting too involved if they don’t need to be. They also have protective armor on their bodies to deflect other species warfare. The disadvantage is they tend not to attack.

06 Beliefs and Rituals

Dogma

The birthing ritual is popular among Metadillos and is held at a common Birthing Place

35 Frumetali dasypus

Tale as Old as Time A Species of Rituals

Metadillos, although not as intelligent as a species, still have dedicated practices and rituals that each member of the society follows. They have a common shared belief system which allows for peaceful coexistence with each other and those around them.

34 A New Species

Shared Beliefs They live on values that include: Treat one another as you’d like to be treated, sharing is caring, and respect the elders. It is the leaders job to keep the clan strict to their values. As long as this happens, there are no issues.

35 Frumetali dasypus

Rituals There are ceremonies for some of their beliefs including the “birth” or creation of a new member. A feast and small party gathering is thrown and the elders are the ones that “bring” the new creature into the world with a blessing. There is also a ceremony for death; those that die are respectfully taken apart and the pieces are distributed to those who need them, for example if one of the members is vulnerable because of the quality of their armor. Except for the sense of smell (light). That may be passed down to another generation (the inheritance).
