Cornation of King Charles III

The Coronation of King Charles III will take place on Saturday the 6th May. Monday the 8th will be a public Bank Holiday. You will need to hurry if you would like your road closed off for a Street Party. You can apply to Southwark Council by going to Southwark.gov.uk for an application form and the terms and conditions. Enjoy your jelly and cakes.

Melbourne Grove

The Melbourne Grove LTN has now become permanent following consultation. This applies to both the southern and northern ends of Melbourne Grove which have now become much safer for cyclists and pedestrians.

School Streets

School streets closures aims to reduce congestion outside schools. It is hoped these will encourage more walking and cycling to school without the dependence of car journeys.

The latest school street to be introduced will be at the Harris Primary Academy. A section of Landcroft Road between Whateley Road and Silvester Road will be closed to traffic between the hours of 8.30 and 9.30 in the mornings and 2.30 and 4.00 in the afternoons Monday to Friday during term times. Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras have already been installed. They will become operational on the 27th of March where any drivers apart from those with permits will be issued with a penalty notice. Residents living in this part of the street will be able to apply for an access permit.

Goodrich Primary School will also be subject to a School Street with restrictions applying to a length of Dunstans Road from Goodrich Road to Mount Adon Park.

New Bench for Melbourne Grove

A new bench has been installed in Melbourne Grove at the junction with Lytcott Grove. This has been a notoriously bad grot spot with bags full of rubbish constantly being dumped. Much has improved now the bench has been installed. This area can now be used as a place to rest and pause on the way to shops and other appointments.

Hire Bikes

Hire Bikes are a great idea. Hopefully they will encourage local residents to cycle rather than use cars which will make our roads safer and reduce air pollution. Unfortunately, some riders leave these bikes on the pavements causing potential trip hazards for blind, partially sighted and elderly and disabled residents. Your local Councillors will be taking this matter up with the bike hire firms to find a solution to this problem.
