New Council Homes in Dulwich Hill
In April, Cllr Hartley and I were delighted to visit the site for the brand new council homes on Underhill Road. These council homes are high quality 4-bedroom, family homes with gardens that are desperately needed in Southwark. They will allow Southwark families in overcrowded housing to move into suitable accommodation where they can thrive. You can see the details of where we are building new council homes across the borough at: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/housing/newcouncil-homes
Goodrich School Traffic Calming
We are pleased to have been able to secure traffic calming measures outside Goodrich School to make it easier to walk and cycle to school and reduce car use in the area. The measures include permanent pavement widening around the school and an ANPR camera outside the main entrance on Dunstans Road, which will mean cars are unable to drive down that section of the road during school drop off and pick up time. Measures like these are part of our commitment to active travel as a council. You can read more about our Streets for People commitment here: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/transport-androads/streets-for-people
Cost of Living Crisis
The Cost of Living crisis continues to be extremely difficult for residents across Southwark. We have put in place a number of measures to support residents. This includes the Southwark Emergency Support Scheme (SESS) for residents experiencing crisis now and who need emergency support with food, energy or other essentials. Further details of the SESS: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/benefits-andsupport/emergency-support
All information about the support available with the cost of living crisis is available here: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/benefits-andsupport/cost-of-living-support
Fair Trade Fortnight
In February, it was Fairtrade Fortnight and Cllr Hartley and I were delighted to able to join the Bread of Life Fair Trade shop at Christchurch on Barry Road for their Fairtrade Breakfast. The Bread of Life Fair Trade Shop is a brilliant volunteer-run shop that sells a range of fair trade food and household items. Please do pay them a visit: http://www.cced.org.uk/fairtradecentre.html
