Wednesday 9 August: EDWIMeet Hilary Lissenden

7:30pm -10pm. The East Dulwich WI is pleased to welcome in August, Hilary Lissenden. Hilary is a one-star international boxing referee and judge, and former (first female) director on the board of England Boxing, the sport’s national governing body. After an extensive spell in the publishing industry she moved into Sport for Development after establishing her own boxing-based charity and membership gym in Peckham – London Community Boxing, which is still going strong. For four years she led the Mayor of London’s sport team and is now Assistant Chief Operating Officer at the University of East London, responsible for all things sport and Active Campus for staff, students and the local community. For the East Dulwich WI she will give a presentation, discussion and practical (noncontact!) session to introduce the benefits of boxing when used for ‘getting fit, not hit’ –especially in respect of female empowerment, self-confidence, and wellbeing.

The East Dulwich WI welcomes guests to this event, first time guests attend for free, returning guests pay a fee of £4. We welcome new members, member ship for the year April’2023 to March 2024 when joining in August 2023 is £34.50.

Saturday 12 August: Music, Jerk ‘n Tings at The Horniman

12pm-7pm. Join us for a family-friendly day of food and music in the Gardens celebrating Caribbean culture. We will be marking the 75th anniversary of Windrush and celebrating the contribution of Caribbean culture to Britain with family activities, live music, dancing and food. Some of the UK’s top Caribbean and African chefs will be cooking up a storm with jerk, vegan and vegetarian food. Full line up coming soon! Confirmed acts so far… Janet Kay – Queen of Lovers Rock, The Freedom Band, Johnny Orlando. Plus dancing, poetry, dominos competition, and steel pan performances.

Sunday 13 August: 3D Beaded

Embroidery Workshop with Imogen Melissa 10am-12pm

Join Imogen for an introduction to 3D beading and embroidery and create your very own coral world working in beautiful pastel colours inspired by our current exhibition Berthe Morisot: Shaping Impressionism.

The workshop is perfect for total beginners looking to try something new, as well as experienced stitchers. Everything you’ll need will be provided, leaving you to enjoy a mindful morning embroidering and beading away. Sunday 13 August: Salad Days Market 11am - 4pm

Salad Days Market (formerly A South London Makers Market) is an award-winning market run by twin sisters Daisy and Liv Tinker. Since their first event in 2019, the market has become renowned for its excellent curation, with a focus on working with the most original local businesses who are reinvigorating traditional crafts in exciting ways, showcasing beautiful and unique items that are often handmade in London.

Expect to find unusual and special things, from versatile ceramics, to colourful original artworks, handmade gemstone jewellery, and small-batch beauty and body products made with essential oils, amongst many other wonders.

Sunday 13 August: Singaround

7pm - 10:30pm. Everybody is welcome to our Singaround, to sing or to listen! We don’t use the stage and we don’t use mics. Accompanied or unaccompanied, solo or duo or more, any language, any genre! It’s different every time, depending on who comes! First come first to sing, just sign up any time during the evening at the list on the ticket table.

One song each, then if there is time we go round again (with a short break in the middle!)

Door 7pm, singing starts 7.15pm prompt.
