Could your doll, teddy or toy join feast of childhood nostalgia in Platinum Jubilee Auction?

This summer the nation will celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee - and Hansons will play its part.

On May 26 Hansons will host a Royal Memorabilia Platinum Jubilee Auction and entries are invited. Royal items come in many forms. We’ve sold everything from Queen Victoria’s bloomers and royal Christmas cards to a royal servant’s lifetime collection of memorabilia.

But there’s another way to take part. The sale will include a spectacular feast of childhood nostalgia - a pageant of dolls and toys to mark nearly 200 years of childhood by monarch. It will start with the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837-1901, work through the early 20th century and war years and finish with toys we have loved through the reign of our current Queen from 1952 to the present day. Hansons’ dolls and teddy bear consultant valuer Janet Rawnsley, a lifelong collector, will lead this important section. If you have a doll or teddy you wish to auction, Janet will be offering free valuations at St John’s Knutsford Church Centre, Church Hill, Knutsford, on May 6 and 20 and June 10 and 24, 11am-1pm. Experts will also be on hand to assess general antiques and you can consign to auction on the day. Dolls, teddies and toys make up a vibrant, nostalgia-fuelled sector of the auction industry. Keen collectors like objects that spark memories of formative years. Janet has a vast historical knowledge of dolls and teddy bears. She appreciates the workmanship that emerged in the early 1910s led by Käthe Kruse

(1883-1968), a pioneer of German dollmaking. She established manufacturing principles which exist to this day. Her original dolls remain highly collectible due to their realism and fetch high prices. She also admires the work of Sasha Morgenthaler (1893-1975), a Swiss artist and dollmaker best known for the Sasha doll produced in Germany and the UK in the late 1960s. Popular with collectors, Blitzy, the bear which Sasha dolls are characterised by realistic helped a little girl get through the Manchester expressions. Blitz sold for £1000 at In the 1980s Janet’s love of bisque-head Hansons fine French and German dolls began. But the bisque, cloth and felt compositions of the 1920s were swept away with factory wartime Dolls and teddy valuations innovation using celluloid, plastics and vinyl. British companies like Pedigree became market Charles Hanson with one of the royal Christmas cards leaders, clever enough to produce both expensive luxury dolls and cheap toys for shops like Woolworths. Whatever antique, vintage or rare doll or teddy you have at home, if you are considering selling, Janet would love to see it. She will be at St John’s Knutsford Church Queen Victoria outfit, part of Centre, Church Hill, Knutsford, WA16 6DH, collection of royal on May 6/20, June 10/24 June, 11am-1pm. clothing that sold for £17,000 Alternatively, email jrawnsley@hansonsauctioneers.co.uk.
