Rockwall/Heath I.S.D.
District of Innovation On November 13 2017, the Board of Trustees approved the recommendation by the Professional Learning Executive Committee (PLEC) to become a District of Innovation. One of the exemptions presented by the committee allowed for the flexibility of a start date before the fourth Monday in August, as currently required in the Texas Education Code. This flexibility allows the district to determine locally, on an annual basis, what best meets the needs of the students, parents, and the local community.

Can I pick my own builder?
Do you have the necessary certifications to build in Texas? Many residents, especially those moving from other states, may be surprised to find out that builders are not required to be licensed in Texas. However, the lack of a license does not mean there are no rules. Much of the work on a home is performed, designed and inspected by licensees. Licenses are required for electricians, HVAC contractors and plumbing contractors. Specialty contractors, such as fire sprinkler systems, and well drilling/pump installation specialists, also need to be licensed in Texas. How long does it typically take to build a custom home? We are often at the mercy of Texas weather, but typically, it takes approximately 6-8 months to build a custom home. Is there a style of home that’s required to build in the Renaissance? While the subdivision itself is built in an “old world” style, the homes being built on the remaining lots are YOUR style—as long as it is consistent with the Renaissance’s building requirements. What are the construction requirements to build in The Renaissance? While you can Download PDF of the full Declaration of Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions Applicable to the Renaissance, here is the bullet point list of the construction requirements for building in The Renaissance: • Front elevation must have 60% stone
• Garage must be a side-entry 3-car garage
• 100% masonry required (brick, stone, or stucco), including chimney
• Living space must be a minimum of 3,000 square feet
• Detached garage limited to 180 square feet, according to the City of Heath, but variances are allowed to get larger buildings
• Fencing must be 5’ in height, and must not be made of wood. Ornamental iron must be used.
Do you have any resources such as architects, interior designers and/or financial institutions you can refer us to? Yes. We have several financial institutions to refer that have experience working alongside a builder to make your dream home a reality. Depending on the style of home you wish to build, we can guide you to an architect or interior designer with the right experience consistent with your style of home. How does the financing work when building a custom home from the ground up? We can refer you to our financial partners to help you craft a finance plan that works with your particular situation, be it cash, needing interim financing, or long-term financing.
