Pastels are big this season on all lengths of hair. We will be seeing a rainbow of hues from peach to purple. If your unsure opt for a subtle slice of colour through the front or ends of hair. Fall 2012 Interior Colour Trends
Fall 2012 Fashion Colour Trends
Winter brings a range of rich, luxurious colours for fashion and interior design, such as burgundy, navy, mustard and violet. These same colours have been translated to hair also. The purples this season are deep, rich and vibrant. To get the most from your violet hue add a contrasting colour such as gold or copper to really make it pop. These colour combos work best on the latest geometric styles and undercuts.
Copper makes a big return again this season. We have seen a lot of copper through-out 2011 with shades ranging from subtle copper browns right through to vibrant screaming orange. This season we seem to be seeing a lot more of the natural hues throughout all the hair colour trends and copper is no exception. Colours that have a natural look but still have that amazing vibrancy and shine can OCEANIC GRAND MASTER be achieved when coloured professionally HAIRDRESSER 2011 – Bianca KaremWhalley Team 7 Hairdressing Hamilton, and maintained with a good product New Zealand range.

Red hair is closely tied with copper hair but is slightly different and deserves its own recognition. Once again we are seeing a more natural look emerging amongst the reds, the colours are darker and deeper than the previous looks seen in 2011, yet they appear vibrant and glossy. This is achieved and maintained with professional colour by a reputable stylist and after care with a good product range specified for red hair. Red is one of the fastest fading colours due to its large molecular size. A product that deposits pigment will help keep your colour vibrant and glossy.

Icy blondes are definitely in right now, but that doesn’t mean over bleaching then reaching for the purple toner and toning ‘til you’re hair’s shiny lilac. This could look good if you’re trying to achieve this seasons latest pastel look, if not go see your stylist and ask for a cool blonde tone that suits your skin tone and eye colour. There are a ton of product ranges for blondes, some better than others and it can be over-whelming. Your stylist should recommend you the right products for your hair type and tone of blonde. And remember natural looking is stylish and coveted by woman all over the world.
Honey, wheat, strawberry and caramel… This may sound like a breakfast treat but it’s actually just a few of the many golden shades of blonde that are heating up cat walks at home and abroad. The look this season is definitely a natural one that will have even the most trained eye questioning whether you were born with those buttery hues. Finish off the look with a bob with a bold fringe or the latest ever so sweet set of finger-waves. If you’re going blonde this season a good treatment and shine serum is essential.
As with all the colours this season with the exception of the pastels, natural is in. The browns are so rich and decadent this season they look almost edible. We’re seeing deep rich chocolates, shiny chestnuts, golden caramels and combinations of them all rolled into a scrumptious feast for the eyes. If you have a warm skin-tone try pairing chestnut with hints of golden copper, finish with a gloss treatment. If your skin contains cooler tones opt for cooler shades like chocolate with a purple reflect, contrast this with hints of golden copper or blonde to warm you up this winter. As far as cuts go bobs are set to be big this season, worn straight with big bold statement fringes or dressed out finger-waves with a side swept fringe.
It takes a strong woman to go black, but when she does she can look outstanding. Black hair can symbolise power and success, especially when paired with a high-fashion style cut. The undercut looks amazing with black hair, worn either straight and to the side or tightly curled on top. Geometric cuts look fabulous also in black paired with pale skin and red lips. Bold fringes are big this season and there’s no better colour to show them off other than patent black. Cleopatra started it, Cher followed, then we had the chilling girl with the dragon tattoo and you could be next. Just remember once you go black you may never want to go back.
Pastels are everywhere this season, on the catwalk, in the magazines and on the streets. Every hue thinkable is being worn with such delicate sweetness. This look works best if you are already blonde, preferably platinum. Ask your stylist for a pastel wash in the colour of your choice. If you’re unsure your colourist can help you choose a colour suited to your skin and eye colour. Shades such as peach and apricot are perfect for those trying out the look for the first time. The more daring may opt for shades of aqua, banana or lilac.
It was a huge hit last season, the stars love it and its here to stay. “Ombre hair” as it’s known to most, is one of those looks you either love or you hate. Similar to dip dying. Some say it looks like bad regrowth, but when its done well it should look like a really beautiful, natural colour lightened by the sun. It’s mostly seen on blondes and brunettes, the trick is not to go too many shades lighter on the ends, it shouldn’t be a straight line across it should have variation and blend subtly.
It’s the combo between ombre hair and pastels. Lady gaga made it famous in her music video “telephone”, And it’s been seen on the cover of various fashion magazines including “Vogue”. It’s not for the faint hearted. If you’re willing to give it a try there are temporary solutions available such as hair shadows that last one to two washes.
Red and Copper have always been head turners and this season they are set to make your winter months hotter than ever. Anyone can go red and there is a perfect red to suit every skin-tone. A return to more natural shades is being seen this season as apposed to the brighter shades displayed by the likes of Rihanna in 2011. Fringes look amazing paired with red and bold fringes are making a comeback this year. See your stylist to find out which red is right for you, and update your cut to compliment your new fiery hue.
Rich, warm, glossy browns. Natural looking is key this season. Worn long and thick with a solid statement fringe is the look this season. Solid colours are in but this doesn’t mean it has to be dull, ask for a gloss treatment at your next salon visit and invest in a good shine serum. A good blow wave finished with irons is worth the effort.
Copper and curls go together like tea and biscuits. It’s a combination of all things sweet, a divine look that’s ‘oh so feminine’ even the strongest man will melt. Curls this season are very popular and range from big and elegant to messy but sweet. Androgyny is massive this season but when it comes to curls sweet and feminine will always win out. If you are unsure if this look is right for you, ask your stylist how you can try it out at home with some heat set rollers, a pair of curling tongs or even your straightening irons.
All shades of natural are in this season from golden honey to icy platinum. Curls have made a big return and we are seeing a lot of retro glamour, like the finger-wave and big miss sixties blowwaves and bouncy curls. Think pin-up but modern and you’re on the right track. Marilyn Munro meets Gwen Stefani.
Natural looking colours and bold fringes are in, paired with sexy finger-waves or big bouncy curls, it’s a look fit for a goddess. Shine plays a big factor in hair looking healthy and youthful, so make sure you pour on the shine with good serums and oils. If your not ready to take the plunge of a fringe ask your stylist for a lesson in creating a faux fringe.
There is a look to suit your occasion this season whether it be a wedding or just a date you want to impress. The looks are returning to move classic looks than those seen in previous months, Think French rolls and finger-waves adorned with jewels and flowers. Fringes are also big and a good way to leave a lasting impression.
Runway is the forefront of the fashion industry, so it definitely influences the hairstyle trends we see emerging from salons at home and abroad. This season Rockabilly and Retro are back and they’re back in a big way; big curls, big buns even bigger bee-hives. If you are wanting to try this look for a special occasion or just as a change to your usual pony, ask your stylist for a retro up do with a modern twist. The more daring may go for a full blown beehive, whereas the more subtle may opt for a simple bouffant.
A huge influence from the current Rockabilly Trend is evident in hair ups this season. Loads of volume and curling being shown. Traditional looks like the bouffant and finger-wave are being reinvented with a quirky modern spin to them. This is Retro-Glamour at its best.
Rockabilly is everywhere and it doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of disappearing any time soon. Factors such as the increasing popularity in the sport roller derby may have contributed, as its traditional for them to dress in this theme. It’s also big amongst celebrities. Stars such as Gwen Stefani and Katy Perry have made the look iconic in the modern world. Make the look fun and current with bright temporary colours and hair adornments such as flowers, jewellery and fascinators.
Curls are in for the boys too. Sweet, innocent and perhaps a tad on the nerdy side is the look that will have hearts melting this season. Undercuts are perfect for curls, making it easy to keep them looking tidy and polished. An all-over wavy look is another option popular with the younger crowd, it may not be suited for the more professional.
This time round in the fashion world the boys are following suit with the girls. Rockabilly has gone mainstream, we are seeing men everywhere rocking Elvis do’s and looking amazing while doing it. This style can be created easily by simply updating your current cut with a few styling tools, techniques and products. Ask your stylist for a lesson and tips.
The undercut is another style set to stick around for a while longer. It’s a look that’s androgynous but yet incredibly sexy on both men and women. This cut is great because it’s a versatile one. You can wear it with all the latest season looks side swept fringe, bouffant, slicked to the side or back, messy, curly and the list could go on and on, the possibilities are endless. This cut is perfect for clients who need to look tidy and professional for work but then like to let lose on the weekends.
The side-swept fringe, love it or hate it, it’s here to stay. This seasons style is more mature and natural looking than the previous looks we have seen that were more emo/punk looking. This style can quickly be changed up by flicking and styling the fringe up for a more messy, un-kept, rock-star look.
Retro is back and so is the wet look. It’s simple to achieve slick it to the side with a good styling product and finish with a ton of shine.
