If you had any doubt that the very best art, theatre, music comedy and film is now coming to Diss Corn Hall, you have only to look through this season’s programme to be convinced. We’re thrilled to be able to present one of the sensations of the Edinburgh Festival, The Trench, a tale set in World War 1 described by The Stage as ‘A total theatre experience of engrossing intensity’. Our musical highlights include the founders of folk supergroup Bellowhead, Spiers & Boden while, jazz fans are promised an extraordinary treat when the sons of the legendary Dave Brubeck present Brubecks Play Brubeck, a musical celebration of their father. Talking of international legends, we’re privileged to be showing the work of one of the titans of 20th century art, Henry Moore in an exhibition of 30 Years of Printmaking. In our usual full and varied programme of films, we have three Oscar winners – Argo (Best Picture), Silver Linings Playbook (Best Actress), Amour (Best Foreign Language) – and a host of others which received multiple Oscar nominations. Starting the season off with a bang, is Skyfall, the most successful Bond film of all time. Another exhibition not to be missed is the work of the Diss Corn Hall Arts Award group which will include perspectives of Diss as you’ve never seen it before! A special treat in our line-up for our increasingly popular Saturday Club events will be the visit by the startlingly brilliant and funny poet John Hegley. These days Corn Hall shows quite often sell out, so make sure to book early if you don’t want to miss out.

This exhibition brings together etchings and lithographs from the last 30 years of his career. Although they explore his familiar themes of the reclining figure and the mother and child, there are some unexpected aspects of his work – including illustrations of the Prometheus myth from the 50s to images of sheep around his Hertfordshire home in the 1970s.

Callas By Jean-Yves Picq, Directed by Richard Digby Day A sensitive and candid portrayal of the legendary opera singer, Maria Callas, based exclusively on interviews given by her throughout her life. Born in New York of Greek parentage, Callas first established herself as an exceptional singer in Italy, and went on to win worldwide acclaim. Her search for perfection, her unique vocal prowess and acting genius led her to be dubbed “La Divina”. Her dramatic life and personal tragedy have often overshadowed Callas the artist in the popular press. However, her influence was so enduring that, in 2006, Opera News wrote of her: “Nearly thirty years after her death, she’s still the definition of the diva as artist – and still one of classical music’s best-selling vocalists.” ‘There are no false notes in Anna Korwin’s superb performance… Unmissable’ What’s On in London ‘Astonishing...for an hour and a half La Divina lived again.’ Western Daily Press ‘A one woman tour de force which literally captivates the audience’ Putney and Wimbledon Times Running time 1hr 30 mins plus interval.
