Entry | Wandering Entering the space the user is greeted at the reception desk. Here, the wandering pathway is first introduced, carrying the user throughout the space as if they are in a park. The ceiling and floorings forms reinforce the various heights in a parks pathway.
Concept Atlanta is known as the “city of the forest” because of its abundance of trees with 300+ acres of parks. Within Midtown, a 25 minute walk from this site is Atlanta’s biggest green space, Piedmont Park. Piedmont Park is a central gathering place for Atlanta with its views of the Atlanta skyline. It is a very engaged space, where people exercise, attend the green market, and their education camps. Within Piedmont Park there’s an aquatics center, track, and multiple picnic areas with concession stands. The park’s quality of being an oasis from the high energy of the city is representative of NEXT’s values and mission to improve happiness through health and wellness. The office is located on Peachtree Street which is a hotspot for bars, restaurants, big name shops and the cities events. The park is an escape meant to unwind the individual through a restorative environment. In the same way the park provides a restorative oasis, NEXT will offer the same restoration for it’s employees from the busy street to office life.

Parti Private City Paths Work + Resource
The parti shows an unwinding motion to represent the unwind from the city streets rigid grid pathways to the nature of a parks organic path. The most popular part of Piedmont Park is the “active oval,” a space that supports methods of exercise and has an abundance of open grass. From here you see the build up from the open air, to the trees, to the cities skyline. The buildup from air to trees to city skyline parallels to the rejuvenation, collaborative work, and private work spaces. The center oasis symbolizes this active oval as a rejuvenation space apart from the office work meant to restore the wellbeing of the individual.

Level 2 The rectilinear turns that occur in the space represent the grid and high energy of the streets. This includes heads down spaces like private offices, private enclves, video conferencing room and the forum classroom. The curvatures represent the paths in Atlanta’s parks, flowing out from the cities streets into an alternate environment. Rejuvenation Oasis The oasis is a place to relax and reset the user. It is a rest area from work, aimed to support the individual’s wellbeing. The use of playful furniture supports fluid spaces and is an opportunity for variety in seating. The ceiling is at it’s highest point in this space, meant to represent the open air’s realeasing quality of the active oval in Piedmont Park.
Branding NEXT’s logo represents the unwind that the space provides for the user. Curving down, up and then collectively merging into one line supports the idea of passing through the rejuvenation oasis to a restored form to enhance health and wellbeing, therefore their working capabilities. Coworking is improved after merging back to restoration.

Materials NEXT uses natural tones to highlight it’s emphasis on health and wellbeing. The materials chosen are based off of colors and textures found in nature - blues, greens, yellows. Textures are used to give the space a refined outdoor sensation with woods, concrete, and fabrics with pebble/bark like impressions.
Private Enclaves The private enclaves are meant for individual heads down work but still provide a connection to the company and co-workers.

Outdoor Space The outdoor space is divided into a work space and an open meditation space. After entering the building, traveling along the different work zones and areas designated for wellbeing, the occupant is then brought back outdoors. Here, they are engulfed in the cityscape with a rejuvenated feeling.

RAW Rock Record Label’s Luxury Skybox Memphis, TN
Entry | Crossing Entering from the elevator the occupant is brought to the crossing of the raw and refined paths of travel. Crossing the two represents the shift caused by rock and how it embraces the feeling of rebellion.
Concept This record label’s luxury box is connecting its artists to their music by comparing the space to the contrast found rock music’s sound. The jarring, disruptive sound represents a shift in rock culture from rock n’ roll’s smooth sound to its now defining factor of powerful strikes to the beat. This shift in sound was caused by the younger generation’s desire for freedom from the conservative age. The music has a contrast between sound and silence through the raw sounds introduced by the electric guitar and the steady drumbeats. Rock is the first music genre to have a focus on the individual beats, giving authenticity to the instruments. It’s shift in culture gave music a disruptive sound rather than a fluid one.

Parti The parti shows a contrast in a refined line that carries the user through a direct path to stadium seating and a raw line that causes interruptions to be carried throughout the skybox. The raw line is inspired by rock’s rugged interpretation of music.

Bar Lounge At the crossing of the raw and refined lines, a bar lounge is set to the back of the space to allow for guests to watch the stadiums events while enjoying food and beverages.
Ceiling Element The ceiling above the bar lounge is made up of guitar strings suspended between bronze elements. The intersecting of the musical symbol and the raw material further represents the rough intersection in the musics qualities.

Branding Raw Records logo is inspired by rocks abrupt, jarring sounds - leaving an impact on ones ears. In the same way, it is interrupting the word ‘raw,’ leaving an impact on its letters.

Upper Level Mini Bar
Materials Smooth materials are disrupted by raw, rough materials throughout the space. The flooring transtions from concrete to carpet, refined tiling or to wood. Walls are predomenantly brick or textured wall paper - providing natural and manufactured roughness. Earth tones are used to touch on the rawness of the space. The teal and maroon create a balanced contrast throughout the space.

Entry | Redirection Upon entry, the user is angled into the space, introduced to the ‘redirection’ that the pathways symolize. Above, the flow into the main corridor is shown.
Concept This basic needs center for the homeless is placed in downtown of Asheville, NC, aiming to be a place of resources and reflection. Asheville, being a relatively progressive area in the conservative western region of North Carolina, is a hotspot for art, food and most significantly the Blue Ridge Mountains. People come from all over to hike and experience strenuous climbs to reach eye opening peaks. The shelters goal is to reflect the emotions of a hike to assist their guests in reaching that eye opening moment at the top. Experientially, the shelter works to ascend the mind for a sense of self-achievement, giving them hope for a more comfortable life. The space prompts reflection that accompanies the journey without imposing that this is the final step or final destination - it is only the transitional stage.

Moves users through the space as a trail would. The skylight lets in light as the clearing of trees would in nature.
Refuel
Represents the intervals taken along a hike to rest. This includes self care, laundry and lounge spaces.
Reflect
Emulates the peak of the hike, to an open area offering a sense of clarity and reflection. This space brings the users back to the outdoors in a comfortable setting to give relief from the unsheltered environment of the streets

Main Corridor | Experiential Path The “experiential path” represents the scenic route of a hike. Along this corridor the user can stop at the manicure station, laundry room and living room with the outdoor desitination motivating them.

Materials Color and materiality choices are inspired by natural elements of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The showers are finished with high gloss acrylic for cleanibility and durability. Each individual shower includes a unique tile flooring material to represent diversity among users. Hand crafted wood elements are used to represent a sense of care and personalization.
Restrooms The restrooms are meant to have more of a luxurious feel to their materials to bring the user comfort in knowing they deserve the same care as anyone else. Each restrooms unique tiling is representative of the areas artistic qualities.

Branding Ascend’s logo represents the mountainous climb that is emulated in the space. Surrounded by nature, the outdoors must have a negative effect on homeless people’s minds and this hope would give them a positive outlook on it.
Outdoor Space After being pushed back to the outdoors, the user is in an outdoor setting that is now comfortable in comparison to the unsheltered outdoors of the public streets.
