Trikala Korinthias‌.a second Switzerland
Perched on the slopes of Ziria and in the dense fir forests, Trikala Korinthias are famous for their picturesque villages and settlements, the important religious places and their natural beauty!
Trikala Korinthias are one of the oldest mountain resorts. They are divided into three smaller settlements: The Ano, Middle and Kato Trikala Corinth at an altitude of 900 m., 1,000 m. And 1,100 m.. Built on the ruins of the ancient Mysaiou, the three villages enchant the visitor with their quaint buildings, the imposing churches, streams, lakes and uninterrupted views of the Corinthian Gulf.
Ano Trikala Korinthias are the Tower Notaraion, where was born Saint Gerasimos Notaras. Notaras’ family played an important role in Orlov (1770), in the Revolution of 1821 and the subsequent civil war. Shortly after the Ano Trikala, stands the historical Monastery of Agios Vasilios. The tradition says that it was created around 1400, when found in a nearby cave the miraculous icon of saint.
In Kato Trikala, you can see the Expressionist paintings in stone-built church of St. Demetrius, the most characteristic of the mural "Man of Sorrows", which represents the dead Christ stands upright inside the sarcophagus, flanked by Mary and John. Furthemore, you can find gorgeous sources, such as Fountain Kalogerou, Great Fountain, Gourna and Machoumia,
while in the central square of the village, enjoy homemade dishes in surrounding restaurants and cafes.
The cool mountain air in Trikala will open more appetite. There you will find many shops selling traditional products and taverns one can enjoy panoramic views of the mountains of Corinth.
In the north-western slopes of Mount Ziria is the Dasiou lake, one of the mountainous lakes of Greece. Surrounded by trees and flowers, it is ideal for hiking and mountain biking. Do not leave without visiting the cave of Hermes, which is slightly lower than the plateau of Flampourotsas, on the east side of Mount Ziria.
