Salamis, Athens' neighobor
This is Salamina. The largest island in the Saronic Gulf. Almost 15 minutes far from Athens by ferry. It is an ideal destination for those who lives or spend their vacations in Athens and we want to enjoy moments in a wonderful, nearby island.
But what can you do to our neighbor island?
Swimming and sunbathing
In the southern part of the island are the beaches Colones, Peristeria and Selinia, where you can visit on your icy beers and summer delicacies from the nearby taverns.
If you want to go with your partner or your spouse, I recommend to visit To dasos tis Faneromenis ( Faneromenis’ forest) located on the northwest side of the island and the Κanakion’s forest located on the south side of the island and it is the largest, the nearest and the only green lung of West Attica. An outing, a picnic and maybe a "proposal" would make your weekend more fun.
Time to eat!!!! Eather you are in the center of Salamis either round (Selinia, Aianteio and KakiVigla, you will surely be satisfied from the traditional taverns. The chat with their owners will convince you to taste the grilled octopus and fresh fish all in coals.
But the island has beautiful beachside cafes and beach bars where you drink your coffee or a drink and dance. And when the mood illuminate, take your friends, especially if you go with them for a lovely nightlife in the island!!!
But how will you go? Basically, wherever you find yourself in Perama (Piraeus), Piraeus and Megara (Perama), there is the possibility for direct access to the island. Every 15 minutes a boat departs from any port of Attica and vice versa. Also, the pedestrian travelers have choice between "slow" and "fast" ship. The only weakness of the service is that the car owners can not travel from - and to - the main port of Piraeus, but should go to Perama or to Megara.
