This project is located at a district not so far from the centre of Athens, which is characterized by several opposed elements. The site is on Sicily’s Hill, in Kallithea. Particular interest was created for the site’s terrain, which in its majority is pretty rocky with a steep slope. Although the site is located adjust to Syggrou Avenue, is consisted mainly of residential uses. Also, there are quite few abandoned buildings or ruins. Hence, it is observed that the area is densely structured, with least public open spaces as well as green areas. And, in spite of the rocky terrain, there are not enough views from the hill. Last but not least, it is observed a significant lack of parking spaces for the residents.

The project zooms in three different sites and intends to unify them in terms of an urban promenade. Their design should fulfil the needs of the residents, as well as create new relations between them and create new perceptions in terms of collective habitation. A building program is organized, with public uses of everyday living for the neighbourhood, and also temporary residential spaces for people with financial hurdles. In order to rehabilitate the future residents financially and vocationally, small shops are established in the building program and also workshop spaces are proposed. Where seminars will be hosted and organized according to the needs and wishes of residents. In terms of collective habitation, common public uses are established in specific areas, such as a restaurant and a cafeteria, as well as a multi-purpose hall. In urban scale, the main concept was the unification of the three sites consisting the project, through a diagonal urban passage, directed to the hill. This walk through the sites is designed with several public open spaces and adequate green areas with organized sitting and gathering areas. 5

Fundamental pursuit concerning the structural elements of the complex, was to combine ergonomics with low cost construction and materials. Thus, the concept that the apartments will be formed from two iso-boxes each time, which are easily manufactured, transported and most important transformed. The last factor was essential, as we wanted each building to be adaptable for any future alternations according to any different needs.

Three different types of apartments are organized, each time for one/ two/ three people. All the iso-boxes come with a rectangular shape of 5.00 m X 7.00 m. The inside walls are light weighted panels, that can be easily moved in order to form different spaces every time. Each apartment consists of private rooms(bedrooms), a bathroom and a common study area. Spaces for laundry rooms and kitchen are formed in the common use areas, which are located at key points in all stories.
