PERSOnal statement I have always been fascinated by the natural phenomenon. My love for science has been a source of abundant pleasure throughout my life. After pre-U studies, I realized my interest are towards green issues, art, and technology which have led me to study Architecture allows me to learn more about the element of nature and the built environment. My unquenchable curiosity about culture, science, and history sets my enthusiasm for architecture in a broader context and are my sources of inspiration. Specifically, my interests are in terms of structural sustainability, the visual qualities and aesthetic properties of element. I enjoy experimenting with natural elements such as light. Throughout the study of Architecture course, I have learned that architecture is a balance between art and science. As a science student, I used to be an analytical person and think logically. I tend to explore the emerging science of looking at nature for inspiration to achieve a design both functional, beautiful and sustain wellness. There are many architects that influence me to look architecture in a new way during my architectural design process. One of the inspiring architects is Oscar Niemeyer which is known for his impressive curves, embrace of light and profound relationship to their surroundings. Besides, Santiago Claratrava, a Spanish architect, structural engineer, sculptor and painter that influences my personal direction in architecture. His personal style is joining the division between structural engineering and architecture. His design inspiration usually derives from numerous studies of the human body and the natural world. In a nutshell, I would like to practice architecture that combines sustainability and arts into one. Quoting from Santiago Claratrava, “Movement gives added dimension to form. It makes form a living thing. Instead of thinking of a building as something mineral, like a rock, we can start to compare a building to the sea, which has waves that move, or to a flower whose petal opens in the morning. I think that if the building is beautiful but it does not provide comfort to the inhabitant then it not sustainable. I hope to make a difference by creating a sustainable future and improve people’s health and quality of life by solving real-world challenge and innovation of architectural form and function in new, poetic space by incorporate nature element into architecture and energy saving design during my architectural practice.
