ACADEMIC PROJECTS In the first section I would like to present three main projects I carried out during my academic career. These projects represents at best the three phases of my education as an architect. The first belong to the BSc, the second to the MSc and the third to an experience of exchange in Buenos Aires. They offer an overview of the essential stages of planning, composition and building sciences I faced. All drawings, schemes, renders and models shown have been made by myself unless otherwise stated. Group or individual projects are specified in the related descriptions.

1. La Villette student housing Paris 2014 - 2015

///////// The studio wanted to focus attention on an innovative way of living in the urban fabric of La Villette, heavily influenced by the development of various different distribution patterns. Design in a strongly stratified scenario was the main aim of the project, paying particular attention to sustainable and innovative building technologies. We were divided into groups of two, working on the project using an urban scale and focusing on architectural composition as well as building technology. We started observing the history of the site and its features, working around a concept and developing functional schemes, architecture plans and graphic materials.

The project site is situated in the La Villette sector, a part of the city of Paris which is strongly marked by the variety of the urban fabric. The main aim of the project is to reinvent a space affected by a lack of attraction. The idea wants to enhance the walkway that links the main roads. Furthermore, thanks to the presence of many Universities in the area, the project wants to generate an attractive place for students and inhabitants, through the design of the book-cafè and the student housing. The guideline of the project is the importance of circulation and common areas. Common spaces are the protagonist of every level of the building promoting the exchange. While the stairs play the role of being not just a link but also a point of view on the common space as well as part of them.

2. Pastore innovative factory Turin 2016 - 2017

///////// The studio wanted to focus attention on the Pastore factory, an abandoned industrial building in the city of Turin. The main challenge was the reuse of it in a broader view on the urban regeneration of the neighborhood, following an efficient and sustainable way. We were divided into groups of two, working on the project using an urban scale and focusing on a design study as well as building technology and structure. We started observing the history of the site and its features, working around a concept and developing functional schemes, architecture plans and graphic materials.

The project site is situated in an area of the city where since many years innovation and new ways of living are spreading out loud. The presence of many different universities, design hubs and urban gardens become a distinctive part of the area. So, the idea is to reuse an abandoned building to create a new centrality, something which can concentrate different activities and uses. The main activities are related to culture, living and innovation. The need of the city for student housing, the experimental sharing living through a co-housing, and the development of an innovation hub become the first attractions.

The approach on the case is an adaptive reuse. Maintaining the original building, adapting spaces to it. The modules are inserted into the existent structure of the factory as books in a shelve. New spaces that are completely energy sufficient, sustainable and comfortable.

3. Pensar, Construir, Habitar La Boca Buenos Aires 2016 - 2017

///////// How to imagine a better city embedding the benefits of density and reaching scales which will not affect the harmony of the community? The main aim of the unit was to make proposals and visions for the most known and visited neighborhood of Buenos Aires: La Boca. The goal was to re-think and re-build the space, starting from the existent density. We were divided into groups of three, working on the project using an urban scale and focusing on a specific area of the neighborhood. We started observing the history of the site and its features, working with the wood model, experiment solutions and then drafting architecture plans and graphic materials.

The process we learned during the design unit starts from a series of experimental actions, often results in spontaneous choices. The possibilities to look in other ways allows us to understand the spatial elements of the city in a new interesting way. The project has become a game. After every action, we have started to ask questions to find a possible approach of intervention. The different approaches were linked to scale, density, shape etc. Furthermore, using collages and a wood model we have imagined new visions for La Boca.

ACADEMIC WORKSHOPS In the second section I would like to introduce one of the student workshop I partecipate during my career. I think that this project gave me a lot of suggestion, also in a utopian way, about themes like cities and refugees.

4. Low income housing workshop Turin 2016 - 2017

///////// The main goal of the workshop was the investigation of different proposals of an area of Turin. Working at an urban scale, the idea was to establish connections and discussions about specific themes, like low-income housing and public space. The proposals have been developed with the support of Colombian students. We were divided into small groups, working on the project using an urban scale. We started observing the history of the site and its features, working around a concept and developing functional schemes, architecture plans and graphic materials.

Designing a solution for the refugees is a captivating topic, which nowadays is looking for ideas. As starting point, the first suggestion was a website, www.welcomerefugees.com. The biggest refugee camp of Iraq, one map with different routes, which tells different stories. In some ways, the intervention wants to purpose again this kind of program, different kind of dwelling or workshops for different cultures and habits. The physic transposition of the idea consists in a big steel structure, designed as a bridge, which links the area with the new park. The flexible structure is highlighted by the insertion of different modules that host a mix of activities. Furthermore, the people who will go to live there can aesthetically design each module. The modules host activities linked to the production of handcraft objects and artefacts.

PROFESSIONAL PROJECTS In the last section I would like to expose two professional projects that I runned, individually and in team group. These projects represents a new step in my knowledge. By one side for the possibility to develop a design individually and by the other side working on a very passionate team group.

5. Carpineto Mountain Refuge Carpineto Romano 2016 - 2017

///////// The competition wanted to promote the design of a prototype mountain refuge. The proposal has to be placed on the mountain paths and must respond to sustainable and energetic criteria.

The project is generated from a practical idea in which the assembling become very relevant in a context where accessibility is compromised. For this reason the solution is modular. The hut is composed by three modular units hosting different functions. The first is a little entrance hall with the wc, then a kitchen with a relaxing area and at last the dormitory. Each module is prefabricated and then assembled in situ. The hut is self sufficient, thanks to PV panels, water recollection and an efficient thermal isolation.

6. Workout Pasubio Parma 2016

///////// The competition wanted to imagine a new use for an abandoned industrial building located in the city of Parma, next to the main train station. A symbol of the industrial city, which was born at the beginning of the 20th century. I worked in a team group in which we started observing the history of the site and its features, working around a concept and developing functional schemes, architecture plans and graphic materials.

The first step in this project is the identification of the urban role of the building. The so-called WOPA is a catalyst for the bottom-up process running on in this area of Parma. WOPA wants to reinvent the existing space through adaptive reuse. WOPA is a daily experience. Spaces for the everyday life of the neighborhood. Extraordinary spaces for special events in the city. Everything through temporary and continued use spaces.

Professional competition made with Tra architecture

WOPA is sustainable, thanks to low tech solutions, low demolition and embodied energy.
