Public library in Vila Nova de Gaia - Portugal Vila Nova de Gaia is a Portuguese city located in the metropolitan district of Porto. It is possible to reach it by means of the "Arrabida" bridge from the center of Porto and it is the second most densely populated city in Portugal. The construction area for the new public library was located close to the main central station and next to the new traffic circle of "Via 8" (the most important thoroughfares connected with Porto city). The main (formal) idea was strictly connected with the required program, three different volumes connected through two connections spots which became the transit in the interior and define the geometrical subdivision in the exterior. The building divides the entire area into two differents parts (West and East) and the atrium was thought in front of the thoroughfares and in the central volume in order to give it an easy access and more visibility. Rimesse in gioco | depositi di idee - Rome The municipality of Rome announced a competition for the reuse of the local transport's depots. The Italian translation of depots is "rimesse" or "depositi". , from here the wordplay title: Give them a challange ("rimesse in gioco") | depots of ideas ("depositi di idee"). The laboratory pretended to participate at this competition with the same rules following the brief's directory. The depot in question is located in the neighborhood Vittoria, between the Vatican and Foro Italico. The project consists of one volume for offices, gym, wellness center and municipality's facilities, this volume crosses three volumes for housing and temporary housing. Parks are underground and all the volumes are connected only in part with the ground in order to have more green areas. In the southern part of the construcion area was also designed a thematic garden, pavillon and playground area. Mill "San Paolo" in Palazzolo Acreide - Italy

Thesis - 2011 / 2012 University of Catania - School of Architecture of Syracuse teachers: Bruno Messina, Fabrizio Foti, Francesca Castagneto

Palazzolo Acreide is an ancient small city, one of the first Greek colony in Sicily, located in the southeast of the island, and it is one of the most attractive local Baroque city. The mill "San Paolo" is located close to the city center and is also a border line building. Its visual impacts from the West and South part of the city (from the thoroughfares) is very strong and its long business story gives it a more defined identity for residents. It was chronologically built during almost forty years, with additions depending on company's business expansion. To support the machine's vibrations, the structure is made in very resistant concrete and the spaces are capable to contain big open space rooms. The building is currently unused and the project aims to give it a new identity with an ambitious program: housings, offices, hotel and wellness center. Main interventions consist on: one demolition and two addictions of volumes. The entry floor (atrium of the hotel) is thought to demarcate the difference with the urban situation of its border line position. 18

Dutch VOC ship Batavia - The Netherlands

Internship - 2014 / 2015 Bataviawerf - Lelystad, The Netherlands tutor: Friso Wennekes

From 1985 the shipwright Willem Vos, with the help of hundreds volunteers, during 10 years, built the replica of the VOC Dutch ship Batavia in Lelystad, a sixties Dutch city in the Region of Flevoland. They used old construction techniques based on historical documents and relics founded by the archaeologists of the Western Australian Museum in Sidney. In this context arises the need of a new digital database for a faster daily work of carpenters, Bataviawerf has now a complete digital database of the entire ship. Nowadays the database includes also cannons and carriages thanks to historical researches of the different types present in the yard, in this way also smiths have a complete database and a more efficient organisation of their work. One of the application of this database was tht re-construcion of the Fore Top Mast ("Voorsteng Mast"). In addition to it was desinged an exhibitor chronicle in order to show all the phases of project and realisation. 32
