DEFINITIONS 1. Hydrosphere. Layer of the Earth made up of all the water on it 2. Salt water. 97% of water in the Earth. Water in oceans and seas 3. Fresh water. 3% of water in the Earth. It is the water we drink and is found in rivers, lakes, glaciers, groundwater... 4. Water cycle. Constant movement of water in the Earth 5. Evaporation. When the Sun heats liquid water and it becomes water vapour 6. Condensation. When the water vapour forms tiny water droplets and forms clouds 7. Precipitation. When the tiny water droplets form larger heavier drops and they fall from the clouds as rain, snow or hail 8. Collection. When water in the rivers goest into the seas and oceans 9. Waves. Movements of salt water caused by the wind 10. Tides. Rising and falling of the sea level 11. Ocean current. Movements of salt water caused by differences in temperature 12. Surface water. Fresh water found on the surface of the Earth 13. Groundwater. Fresh water deposited under the ground 14. Glacier. Large area of thick ice 15. River. Body of fresh water in continuous movement that flows to the sea 16. Lake. Deposit of fresh water on the surface of the Earth 17. Gully. Course where water only flows after it rains 18. Tributary. River that flows into another river 19. Spring. Place where water flows from an aquifer 20. Aquifer. A deposit of groundwater 21. Course. Route that the river takes. It has three parts: upper course, middle course, lower course 22. Channel. Area that contains the flowing water of the river 23. Flow regime. Amount of water the river carries.
