Information is rising everywhere if we consider online sources and resources the challenge gets even bigger. However when we decided to move forward with a project like Covet Lounge Magazine there were no doubts that the world needs a statement magazine, a selection of the best remarkable design projects that need to be shared, a curated view of design, luxury and lifestyle, a point of view in fashion and Trends. For this first issue of four issues along the year, we were working to present you something unique, a magazine that evokes a desire to collect, something that you will have next to your best books. Our team worked hard on a selection through different subjects as Trend files and Interviews where you will find different points of view from different Interior Designers and Designers as we believe the best way to learn is by sharing experiences and knowing people’s different opinions. You can expect a great selection of Hotel and Restaurant Projects around the world, a curated selection of design products that you can’t miss and a fine selection of luxury, jewelry, watches and other guilty pleasures. As I said before we believe that people and experiences are one of the best sources of knowledge and considering this we could not leave outside this issue a selection of what to do around the world in terms of Design. The selected guide for this first issue was New York. That’s right: we will bring to you a great selection of what to visit and what’s happening in the Big Apple that you can’t miss. Considering the importance of travel and be in the right place at the right time we will have two more guides and they are: MILAN and MIAMI. Enough of conversation let the voyage begin through our pages, enjoy it!

hen Covet Magazine approached me to an article on Design Trends for their Spring Issue I agreed. But when I sat down to write it I realized it would only be repeating what has been printed over the last couple of months in every design magazine across the globe: In a nut shell here it is: 2015 Design Trends - gentle and muted pastels, smoky shades of grey, soft neutrals & metal hues. Prints and pattern are definitely back on the rise; on one side we see fluid prints, luxurious peacock feather patterns, graded dip dye designs, blurred images, florals and tropical prints. On the other we see strong geometric designs, 3d patterns, repeated forms, kaleidoscopic images. The current textures are derived from nature; exotic animals, mineral & vegetable are making their mark. And my personal favorite metals, we are seeing a change towards steel, copper, pewter, gold and other metal accents all in a matt finish in preference to just chrome and stainless steel. Here they are perhaps described in a different way but the question that lies beneath all this is; who dictates the trends? & what is the creative process of a designer ?
Do they keep trends in mind when developing a collection? As a designer I make it a priority to know what culture is today in order to react to it, I must stay current and constantly immerse myself in research and scouting while mentally compiling mood boards and getting an emotional sense of where all this stimuli is taking me. My creative drive is obsessive; I am sensitive to the world around me and make it my job to stay above what is current. The clues of where I will take my collection next are all here now but as a business woman in the creative industry I must know what people want before they want it. The idea that there is a cult of originality out there is complexly false. Many companies follow forecasting agencies, others look to their industry peirs while the brave follow their instinct. Trend forecasting agencies predict colors, styles, textures, and themes to be presented in the upcoming year. It is there job to attract consumers and help retailers sell their brands. Consulting trend reports can be the difference between thriving or tanking.

In 2014 the Gem Lamp as part of the “Elsewhere” exhibit at Maison & Object and this year the Drapesse Chair was nominated as part of the “Technomade” exhibit. As a trendsetter I must say appropriation is the most important element I can apply to my collection. This is taking an idea or mood and changing it into something tangible while infusing my own personal interpretation into it. I would like to remain in the position of trendsetter and innovator not only with my designs and aesthetic but also in the way my company is branded and how Iinteract with my clients. THE*LIGHTING*DESIGN*OF* A*MID*CENTURY*MODERN*ERA
Just like a Cosmo quizz that leads you on a straight path...towards...your love one, your past life and…well most of the times is your love life that hangs in the ballads. For now, let me be your spirit guide and guide you through the world of interior designing. “Which style did you get? Aww darn it I got Stillnovo!” That might not sound cool enough to a younger generation but the truth is that the reigning rule right now is: if it’s retro it’s in. This trends has become bigger over the years and has gone beyond interior design to further its claws into every aspect of day to day life: fashion (see that leggings your
mother wore to gym class and the headband to? Yep that’s what the cool kid from your block is wearing to school right now), jewelry (jewels that have overseen a generation have suddenly found their way into the mainstream) and accessories (that casio that you father adored and never let go? Yep the cool kid from your block… you guessed it).All of the vintage looks, the retro chic environments obey to the trendiest trend. Nevertheless, the majority of the population seems to be unware of the existence of one other interior design style.

What*about*Mid>Century*Modern*style?* That*might*sound*boring…it*isn’t! Midcentury modern style has been noticed over than a decade ago and with the help of popular shows like Mad Men, that 70’s show, etc. MidCentury Modern corresponds to a period of roughly two and a half decades in the middle of the 20th century, from the mid-1940s to 1970. Its characteristic uncomplicated and fresh lines arose from a desire to propel postwar America into the modern era and to enjoy the chance that was given: to regenerate buildings and redecorate interiors with awhole new perspective, always pushing the envelope. Mid-Century Modern just doesn’t have a cool label like StillNovo or Retro Chic or Art Deco. But don’t hit the snooze button just yet. Of all the interior design areas there
is one in particular where Mid-Century Modern realizes it’s full potential. Lighting fixtures from this era are so striking that they’ve become design motifs and be used a hundred times as inspirations, all on their own. As a small piece of advice don’t let the mid-century modern light fixtures compete against each other, it will fill up the room and and it’s totally unnecessary. Choose one for an interior, a living room, a kitchen or a bathroom (why not?) and let them shine on their own in their individual space. Nobody likes an overstuffed turkey. Get it? So, today we are going to talk about Mid-Century Modern Lighting.

TOP*3*THINGS*YOU*DON’T* KNOW*ABOUT*MID>CENTURY* MODERN*LIGHTING Atomic Age of Design - The Space Exploration is a recurrent theme of the Mid-Century light fixtures like for example the Sputnik Chandelier. The early era of space exploration was driven by a “Space Race” between the Soviet Union and the United States. Space exploration has often been used as a proxy competition for geopolitical rivalries such as the Cold War. Atomic Age design became popular and instantly recognizable, with a use of atomic motifs and space age symbols. This chandelier by DelightFULL is the perfect example of a contemporary descendant of retro sphere lighting, Atomic suspension lamp is a spot-on interpretation of the atomic age design. Brass material was very popular in the post II World War and in the modern era there is no shortage of designs that incorporate this material be it in a lamp or
any item of interior design. Although, brass light fixtures have a charm to it, don’t you think? In the lighting world there is a very famous lamp that is totally a flashback form the 50’s : it’s the Arco Deco Lamp. Over the year, this iconic design has endured. The series Mad Men (a series which tells about how office life was back in the 50’s) counted with one between their deco items. If you want to go retro this is the classy way to do it.Cosmo would finish up by saying somethinglike: “So add your points, check the box bellow and see what style did you get!” And your tummy would rumble in anxiety to check which style is more you and the same formula still applies in interior design: you have to try and stick with a style…and if doesn’t stick you just have to pick up on another one.

It is undeniable that color is part of everything, with that being said of course when we pick our house we have this in mind. Talking about exterior color in architecture the choice has been all black. It is a modern way of interpretation of the buildings and it gives a more luxurious and a defined sillhoette. It is indeed a love for black that we are talking about. Black doesn’t need to be only inside your home and if it is this color that you want believe me that architecture will be flattered to work the all black materials.

This photos are an inspirational epilogue to some architecture black projects. Consider them has an inspirational board. Agudela house is an all black house in a residential area that is growing every year. It has generous exposure and it is really close to the sea. The exterior color gave a character to this house that was made adapted to the customers desires. It is like a black box were holes have been craved to let the light create its entrances and also to add patios to the house. This is a great example of how the choice of simple black made a beautiful and modern result.
Another architectural project and known for its simple extravagance and bold shape is the Archipelago House. It is made with natural materials like wood and also with glass and it is a really light-weight building, a beautiful summerhouse located in Stockholm. It has an unusual shape and the spaces inside are ambiguous. Horizontal wooden trellis let the daylight come in making harmonious brakes on a continuous space and this is where the differences and distinctions between interior and exterior are even more noticeable.

“Black*combines*with*the* horizon*and*relates*to*the* verticals*of*tall*grown*pines.” Truth is that from any perspective black looks good and this is said every year and every time fashion wise but obviously it can easilyrelate with architecture too.Black turns a small space in a big space and this color is definitely adaptable and as you can see by the projects we present works on every ambiance and with so many decorations we lost count! Maybe you don´t want to have an everyday house all black, but if you have a vacation home why not experiment and have an all black experience? Black is not new, but is here to stay at least architectural wise.

ARCHITECTURAL*NEW*APPLE* STORE*IN*CHINA Apple is indeed everywhere and now the brand has opened a architectural and gorgeous new store in Hangzhou, China. The store was carefully thought and planned by Foster + Partners, one of the best and biggest innovative architecture and design integrated pratice in the whole world. They have a sustainable approach to architecture yet they don´t forget the importance of beauty and functionallity of spaces for a daily life comercial or residential space. Foster + Partners first work for Apple was back in 2009 for the comission of Apple Campus 2, the company´s new California headquarters. In terms of apple stores the first made by this firm was the apple store in Instanbul, Turkey and another is on the way: San Francisco. The stunning new store in Hangzhou is one of five new stores that will oppen in China, this information was given by Angela Ahrendts, Apple´s senior vice presidente of retail and online stores. The first Apple outlet store that opened in China (they are up to 20 apple stores in total,
counting with this 5 more that will open) was in 2008 in Beijing. Anyway Tim Cook, Apple CEO, confessed that this number will increase to 40 within two years. The first of the five stores to open was on 10 January in Zhengzhou, capital of central Henan Province. This new Hangzhou store open two weeks latter with Norman Foster´s has the leader of the project, because the design of Apple´s stores started to be managed by him in 2013. The building that hosts the well-kown brand is contextualized with the place where it was built and its harmoniously simple beauty and this minimalistic building has some technical innovations that characterises Apple´s products. The amazing facade of the buildng is all transparente and made with 11 double-glazed panels and they are prepared with mechanical blinds. LOOSE GEOMETRIC LINES No, it is not lego. Although, loose geometric shapes have already been spreading like wildfire. More playful shapes are coming each day to the markets and there seems to be no rule of three: there’s hexagonal lamps, cubique chairs and triangular tables. Designer went overboard with this one.

Modern Sillon, Karim Rashid
Torn between studying architecture, fashion, or fine art, Rashid ended up applying to architecture. He went to university expecting to study architecture, but turned out to take some industrial design courses. He went also to do post graduate studies in Italy, in 1983, with Ettore Sottsass, Gaetano Pesce and Andries Von Onck for a special graduate program near Naples, in Italy. Furthermore, he has two honorary doctorates in fine arts and design and was a full-time associate professor for 10 years. On his first design job, Rashid worked full time designing business telephones and switching systems for MITEL, Canada. His first project was to design two business telephones. He eventually worked for seven years with KAN Industrial Designers in Toronto designing x-ray equipment, a mammographer, power tools for Black & Decker, trains seats, 3-d glasses for IMAX and mail boxes for Canada Post. The first own office was opened in 1993 in NYC with no connections, no money, and no one. Despite the real difficulties, the designer persevered and was determined to build his own practice and be successful. Rashid’s design styles and signature “I don’t see myself having a «style» in fact; I believe that the term «style» refers to past movements in history. I would rather say my sensibilities and
philosophy are about embracing contemporaneity with a sensual but minimal language (I call it “sensualism”), with a digital vernacular and spirit (I also use the term “technorganic”)”, tells Karim Rashid to Miami Design District blog. “I am interested in documenting, in editing the period in which we live”, he adds. All objects and spaces have semantic language and speak to us. Certain forms, line’s, colors, textures, functions, all touch and communicate to our senses and our daily experiences. Karim Rashid still clarifying everyone around him. Childhood, education, the teachers, every project he has worked on, every city he has travelled to, every book he has read, every art show he has seen, every song he has heard, every smell, taste, sight, sound, and feeling. It is difficult for Rashid to pick a favourite job, since his mind and passion is always focused on his latest project. A 21 story condominium in Chelsea, New York, a smart high end Mobile phone, the Garbo for Umbra, the lamps for Artemide and the design of the Kaj watch for Alessi are some of his favorite projects currently. “I must say that I enjoy from micro to macro, anything and everything that creates a better human experience”, elucidate us Karim Rashid.

But they didn’t just imagined it: they designed it. This colaboration between the German car brand and the Swiss Argentine designer is the sixth in a series of design collaborations. “Marino* is* a* true* visionary,* known* for* his*cutting*edge*design*and*architecture* concepts.” Curated by Jérome Sans, the exhbition blends the New Yorker’s personal art collection, his emblematic architectural work, as well as a select few fashion elements and other unusual pieces. Although completely self centred, this notable showcase includes work from various well known artists, such as Gregor Hildebrandt, Guy Limone, Farhad Moshiri, Jean-Michel Othoniel and Erwin Wzurm, and is a classic illustration of the architect’s unique approach to bespoke installations. With strips of videotapes guiding visitors along the Bass Museum’s corridors, viewers find the exhibition also features dedicated spaces for themes such as pop Pop Art, iconic portraiture and photography, and Marino’s recently designed series of cast-bronze boxes that are presented within leather-clad walls, as well as his collection of black and white paintings. These artistic collaborations and comissioned performances show Peter’s will to work with some of the most talented individuals in performing and creative arts.
One of the exhibitions highlights is a Andy Worhol’s “Human Heart”, which is of great importance to Marino, as one he was mentored by the iconic artist. Other notable pieces include a painting by Rudolf Stingel, one of the most trenchant interrogators of the possibilities of abstraction, which hangs next to a vapid Dan Colen. We can say that is a pertinent inconsistency because art is your own interpretation of the reality in this case Marino´s interpretation. The exhibtion clearly reflects Peter Marino’s creative vision, and viweres find themselves intimately submerged in his various artistic facets, leaving with a slight buzz and fresh perspetive over his life and work.

STUDIO*JOB ROBBER BARON SERIE “Unlike most, we are probably not coming from Modernism. Studio Job’s contribution is that we have rediscovered a lost path. Consciously and carefully, we are positioning decorative arts in the twenty-first century. Is that design? Whatever. Is that art? Whatever, really.” Graduates of the renowned Design Academy Eindhoven, the Netherlands, Job Smeets (b.1970, Belgium) and Nynke Tynagel (b. 1977, the Netherlands), who both live as well as work together, form Studio Job. Having met in 1996 in Eindhoven – Nynke began her studies in graphic design as Job had just graduated in 3D design. Employing iconographic, pan-historic imagery which can be in the same moment both heraldic as well as cartoon-like, the results are consistently monumental and yet somehow primitive, and generally read neo-baroque, clearly fantasist, and certainly more mannerist than modernist. Their work often projects a strong narrative quality, with often suggests a heroic battle between good and evil, and their gorgeous collections seem to emerge from a medieval, guild-like process with and industrial approach. Although their work is geared towards collectors and museums by definition, Studio Job has collaborated successfully with various like-minded industrial manufactories, including Swarovski, Austria, and Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum and Moooi, the Netherlands. Their work has been shown internationally in numerous museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, the Centraal Museum, Utrecht, the Dutch Textile Museum, Tilburg, and the Groninger Museum, Groningen, and also at carpenters workshop gallery.

Q - Please tell us more about your art and design background and what made you become an artist and designer? A-I got into design because, I was and I am interested in daily life, its objects, furniture. As a child I used to like to build small objects, and I always took care to objects that were around me. Then it was quite an evidence to become a designer. After school, I’ve been working as an intern or assistant of Georges Sowden, Marc Newson and Andrée Putman before having opened my own studio. Q-What was the movie or book that impressed you the most? A-My favorite book is « Lolita » of Vladimir Nabokov. One cries, one laughs, one is surprised. Nothing is caricature in this book. It is not a societal portrait—it is a portrait of characters who are not meant to show an example or give a message. It is what I want from books : to be taken away, transported.I’m found of the movie « Les parapluies de Cherbourg ». To me is many things at once romance / comedy / drama, it is both audible and visual delight. Ones has to be clearly bold to make and produce such an audacious movie. The midcentury furniture throughout goes perfectly well with the classic architectural details
Celebrity homes are always impressive. Most of them for the ridiculous luxurious settings, others for the unique décor concept that blows our mind away. This New York Penthouse, located in midtown east Manhattan neighborhood Turtle Bay, was acquired by Mary-Kate Olsen and her fiancé Oliver Sarkozy last year for an astonishing $13.5 million and is definitely one of those cases. The midcentury furniture throughout and the way it goes really well with the classic architectural details is something we, at Covet Lounge Magazine, simply adore. The penthouse was previously owned by painter David Deutsch, who filled the house with such wonderful artistic details. The painter bought the townhouse in 1997 for $2.45 million but his personal touch transformed it into something really incredible, certainly worth the price mentioned above.
Spread across six floors, the 8.000 square feet rare Turtle Bay Gardens house has 5 bedrooms, seven fireplaces, its own elevator, a grand ballroom and other surprising elements such as a hall of mirrors, a fifth floor exercise pool and, of course, a doubleheight artist’s studio meant to celebrate creativity. Outside, it’s own private garden with another statement detail: a fountain expertly modeled after the original Medici fountain in Rome. Turtle Bay Gardens was developed in the early 20th century by American heiress Charlotte Martin, who, inspired by Europe’s private gardens, created a 12-foot-wide shared garden promenade behind 20 back-to-back townhouses on 48th and 49 streets. How and why did you get into the interior design Industry? - Recdi8 opened a small studio in 1999 in the Born district in Barcelona. Where did you draw your inspiration from for
this project? - We studied the origins of the building and the apartment itself, tried to recover the original elements and then we added unique finishing and furnishing, always related to the existing. According to the ‘art nouveau’ roots of the apartment we draw inspiration from nature , romanticism and rococo. Which one is your favorite piece in this project? - When we saw the NYMPH chandelier we knew immediately that it was the right piece for the master bedroom, NYMPH unified in one piece all the characteristic we were looking for: nature, romanticism, luxury, high quality, uniqueness. What was the impression left on the client when you closed the door on the last day of the project? - Happiness and pride. We became good friends with the owners during the project, we visited together galleries, antiquarians and even travelled together through the south of france looking for unique pieces for the apartment. In what magazines will this project be covered? - For the moment it is confirmed to be published in AD Russia.
What are your biggest projects and chalanges? -The project: We converted a showroom of local fashion accessories brand into the residence of an art collector. - The challenge: We are working always as a team. Covet,a curated design concept that envolves brands like Boca do Lobo, Myabi, Delightfull,KOKET or Brabbu, had a lounge stand were you could sit and talk surrounded by beautiful and luxurious pieces of furniture. Maison et Objet is the best place to interview a famous and important designer, don´t you agree? Nini Andrade Silva is a very well known artist/designer that works mostly in hotel projects around the world from Colômbia to some country in Asia. We met at Covet Lounge and she immediately choose her favourite place for the interview and then, with a smile, answered all of our questions about her career. Nini Andrade works mostly with hotel projects but also does works in private houses. The truth is, has she says, “in private houses you can´t talk about the project or the clients” and instead in hotels the Hotel itself is a public space so it is talked about and if it is talked about a lot that means that the project is a success. With this designer in particular all her works are talked about and full of love in each one of them. At the moment she is doing 20 hotel projects in Indonesia, Cambodja, Colombia (7 hotels there) and some in Europe including Portugal.The Island were Nini was born, Madeira, it is trully an inspiration for her has you can see through her shiny eyes while
she speaks about it. She is a true soul and embraces the inspiration, roots and heritage from the place where she was born. She said a trully inspirational quote about it “Madeira is an Island surrounded by the sea where you can dream, you don´t have a wall and you fly and that was what i did”. Her energy comes from Madeira, but her inspiration comes from the places where she is doing each project.

Next July Nini is opening her own design center in Madeira and putting there all the “Girl of the Pebble” collection and from there she is going to continue developing her collections and work from there. A very talked about work of the designer that is still going around the world is the chair for Cristiano Ronaldo. The project was organized by the city hall of Paredes and it was called the Art of Chairs, the main goal of this project was to get together celebrities and international designers and then the designers had to make a chair for that specific person. For Nini it was choosen Cristiano Ronaldo and she was thrilled about that idea because he is from her Island, Madeira. She saw his dimensions, the style and personality of the football player and from that she realized “for Cristiano i can only do a chaize long” and Nini also explained to us the meaning behind this iconic chair “i did like the story of the Island and the story of Cristiano, the chair is like a golden wave that come out of our beaches and like the rocks from the beach that open and get a wave and that wave is a golden wave because that is really what Cristiano is”.

At first the chair was in na auction with the wellkown auction company Christie´s and it was on a very high price and then Nini decided to make another one to go around the world for everyone to see it and of course the chair was a success because of the name of Cristiano Ronaldo.We asked Nini if it was difficult for her to have an international career and be succesfull outside of Portugal and she said that yes it was a normal process and that anyhow she is really proud to be portuguese and every where there are portuguese people and brands (she mentioned the brand Boca do Lobo, featured in Covet Lounge, where the interview took place) and she also mentioned that after seeing her work lot of people ask her where she is from and when she answers “Portugal” and people react with surprise she immediately says: “in Portugal we have this and much more than this”. Nini does a lot of conferences around the world and she participated in a lot of TEDx talks, each time she goes with a diferent character and speaks about her life experiences and in what she believes
in and is very emotional about it all. Nini believes in love and understanding amongst one another because everyone is diferent. She also explains the way she became a designer, she just didn´t like to have to know things that were garanteed, Nini prefered to create and always let her imagination flow and to be free. She had all her family support and she believes that this was esential for her to grow and became who she is.The respect for people and different cultures on the countries she works in is very important for her work because she gets inspiration from the different ways of living and every project that Nini is involved in also becames like a child to her and that is why she said to us that she cannot choose a favourite one.We would definitely continue the wonderfull conversation we were having with Nini but the clock was ticking and a designer work never stops. Anyway Nini finished our lounge confortable talk with a very inspirational and motivacional quote: “If you believe on you, nevermind where you come from you are going to win”.

The 21st century is a very particular one when it comes to arts in their infinite languages. Every historical period is touch stoned by an originality driven by the times in which these creations bloomed, this has changed drastically since information truly became global and available at the reach of our fingertips. Artists are no longer an exclusive product of their life and surroundings; they became simultaneously products of the past, the present and their expectations for the future. Some are calling it the death of originality, this couldn’t be farthest from the truth, what these conditions brought was an advent of memory, new ideas and new designs became aware of manufacturing techniques that could perfectly capture an identity, techniques that were almost forgotten and are still as valid as they were up to 5000 years ago.True artisans are a dying breed, people who truly possess a craftsmanship that can’t be taught through art classes or abroad workshops, these men and women possess the
knowledge of centuries and have been practicing it since they could walk, not because it was a design trend, not because they chose to, but because it was in their blood and it was passed on from generation to generation, it can be replicated but never to the same overwhelming effect. The devil is in the details and those details separate a beautiful piece of furniture from a true piece of art, done with a love that shows and can be felt at first sight. Fortunately this new age has also brought together these high-end designers with the craftsman that were also craving for a breath of fresh air, a new life that could validate their existence in this new world. Along came Boca do Lobo, a Portuguese brand that turned modern furniture design on its head and introduced the world to a new dimension of detail and a time-defying vision capable of changing the whole game. Like memory itself, chamfered glass objects, sculptures and furnishings transcend time and place. Glass is an art medium with seemingly endless technical versatility and a rich, long history. Basic elements of sand and soda lime are combined with coloring agents, and then melted together to produce the raw material. The raw (soft) glass prepared in Murano, Italy, has a great reputation anchored in centuries of appreciation for its high quality. That, along with the minutia imprinted on the hand-carving of the mirror, make this a remarkable and worth reviving technique.
Commonly associated with Louis XVI, art nouveau furniture and the wall decorations of clubhouses, patchwork or inlay work is created with highquality veneers that are glued by hand to a wooden base. It’s this intricate structure that gives the piece a unique look that highlights its shape and at the same time helps it blend with the surroundings. This way, optical illusions can easily be created by the playful representation of varying perspectives with the option of interplaying light and shade.

FOUNDRY One of the oldest techniques here showcased, the art of making a cast and shaping liquid metal is a powerful one and requires a skill no machinery yet possesses. The human hand has a very unique way of dealing with materials and its limitations are the beauty of the final work, its imperfection and dedication, almost the pain of the foundry process that makes for an astonishing final work.

They work with artisans of the past who make those spectacular decorative twist finials found on our most elaborate grandfather clocks, highboys, and other high-grade furniture. They take great pride on having recovered this particular ancestral technique and their excellent artisan, an accomplished cabinetmaker and highly skilled carver hand makes these flamboyant furniture elements. It’s a technique that can be used to carve spirals in any kind of wood project, be it a finial or even a twisted table leg. Patience and dedication are key factors of the whole process but the tools involved are also
an important element, they are custom made for the effect and become an extension of the artist’s hand, many of these tools are even made by the artisan himself, giving it the specialized characteristics that produce a truly original work designed and manufactured from scratch. These are just a few examples on how the old can enhance the new, creating never before seen pieces of furniture that are set to define an era where identity is not lost but owned from the heritage we are entitled to. When gastronemer Friedrich Haerlin celebrated his fortieth birthday by buying a property at an auction for 420,100 marks, he could not have foreseen what a European glamourous meeting point it would turn out to be soon after. In 1987 the hotel was first established with the name Vier Jahreszeitenand and it is famous today as the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten of Hamburg. Thanks to this vision, and some diligent work, Haerling managed to created a harmony of spaces, surprising everyone by turning the narrow building into one of Hamburg’s most astonishing house, his work was later taken on by his son Fritz, in 1936 who continued the expansion of the building until it achieved the wonderful imposing aspect it still has to this day. It was a long project that took many years to see its final accomplishment. Today it stands as a symbol of prestige that has, throughout the years hosted many personalities, movie stars and politicians. The year 2014 marked the completion of largest renovation project in the rich history of Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten.

After years of refurbishment and restoration the hotel gleams in new splendor. From the roof to the basement, the entire hotel was renovated counting new rooms and suites, new baths, five modernized banqueting rooms, a new business center, and a new conference foyer. Over 250 antiques were restored, the Flemish tapestries – a hallmark of the hotel – have been hand-cleaned and sealed, while elegant new fabrics bring the restaurants to light. Such a place rich in history and heritage could not be placed in better hands than those of Director Ingo C. Peters, who is following the restorations of all five floors, including a total of 156 guest rooms and suites, that should be finalized in the first months of 2015. We took a quick glimpse of what this grand hotel will be providing to its chic and jet set clientele in the time to come. To adequately complete the fine furnishings and researched materials the Fairmont Hotel group went looking for a brand that incorporated both class and elegance, but also modernity and practicality, to help in the transition they are facing, from historical to elegant and up to date. A Portuguese brand was chosen to accomplish this task. This chosen brand is BRABBU Design Forces, a raising name in the world of interior design that
claims to reflect an intense way of living, bringing fierceness, strength and power into an urban lifestyle, and given the result of their work, we have to agree with their own definition. BRABBU designs and produces a diverse range of furniture, casegoods, upholstery, lighting, rugs, art and accessories that tell stories from the surrounding nature and world, and we believe it deserves to be monitored as it continues to grow in the international design scenario. The brand focuses on the use of materials, textures, scents, flavours and colours that live inside nature and inside an urban life and it is for these characteristics that the match between BRABBU and the Fairmont Hotel came so naturally. Strength, elegance and care for details are common grounds for both brand and hotel, thus leading to the success of the great result achieved. The collaboration between the hotel and BRABBU concentrated in the incorporation of a very special chair, named N°20, that was designed by the brand and found its perfect fitting place in the luxurious spaces of this symbolic hotel. The chair, will in fact be present in every one of the 156 elegant guest rooms and spacious suites.

The N°20 chair was invented and developed by BRABBU Design Forces and later licensed by Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten to be manufactured by their partner company JAB Anstoetz in Bielefeld (http://www.jab.de/en). The Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten has five different color themes (carmine, powder blue, kiwi, grey/gold, and lilac plus blackberry as special theme in only one suite) in place, and the N°20 chair was upholstered in matching fabrics to complete all the looks of the luxurious rooms. The location of the Hotel is a big plus: in fact the Hamburg’s Grand Hotel is situated in the heart of the city, directly at the Inner Alster Lake in close proximity to excellent shopping facilities such as Jungfernstieg and Neuer Wall and only a few minutes walk from the Hamburg Opera and Hamburg Congress Centre.We are very pleased to announce this collaboration between the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten and BRABBU. We will be looking forward for more information coming from both of these glamorous design realities. Savelli’s main line offers a choice between 11 models of highly luxurious phones, and in January 2015 two more lines were launched: the Ruby Limited Edition and the Emerald Limited Edition both created with the collaboration of Gemfields, an internationally famous emerald and ruby supplier. Obviously such luxury objects have very unique prices, which may vary from $8,625 to $112,500, however, the most expensive limited edition model is made of 75 baguette-cut emeralds and 900 diamonds and its retail price is of $167,500. The proposed smartphone models are made of the finest materials like sapphire glass, ceramic, various types of leather for example:
iguana, python, alligator, ostrich, and finally complementary precious stones and gems, on some of the models. The Savelli phone has 32GBs of internal storage, a high-resolution 3.2inch display and a front and back camera and it supports all main apps. Savelli’s advertising campaign has been entrusted to the expert hands and eyes of the internationally famous photographer Patrick Demarchelier and his muse, the beautiful model and contemporary style icon Julia Restoin Roitfeld that contribute to enrich the already luxurious components of this stylish brand.
