Modern Floral Arrangements Modern floral arrangements are designed entirely to fit their surroundings. Many people consider modern to be sharp lines and minimalism, however this is but one type of setting. Match your arrangement with its location. With the advent of modern architecture and room design comes an interesting change in what is trendy with regard to flower arrangements. While classic designs continue to live on in specific situations, the scope of what is stylish has widened exponentially to include a multitude of modern floral arrangements. The resounding message in the floral community at this point in time is to create a centerpiece that fits the style and feel of the room and matches nicely with the surrounding components. Some flowers can create a chic and modern feel, whereas others contribute to a homey and comfortable atmosphere or even a traditional or old-fashioned air. The first step is obviously to decide the style of the interior of the room the flowers are intended for. One possibility is that the room subscribes to the true modern look- where everything is minimalist and somewhat bare. This is characterized by sleek and trendy looking furniture, primarily white walls or sometimes vibrant colors, and excessive amounts of glass. Shapes will be defined; everything is cut sharply inside the room. On the other hand, many people are just looking for something for their “standard” home. That’s the beauty of modern floral design; there is no right answer. If, however, you are subscribing to the trendy look, it is important you stay away from the more traditional flowers. Fear not, there are still plenty of options that will enhance your room! Your floral arrangement should follow the trend of the room, so if it is in a minimalist room, you may want to create an arrangement that is minimalist as well. Although this can be a difficult task, there are some components that make it significantly easier. Perhaps the most useful item is a simple branch or flower stem. These are bare and modern-looking, however they add a lot to any room they are placed in and look incredibly artistic besides being very easy to acquire. Maybe you want to go with a more traditional route when designing your modern floral arrangements. That’s totally fine! If designing for a more traditional setting, feel free to use copious amounts of filler flowers and greenery, but if you are going for a truly modern look, it is a good idea to lighten up on these aspects of the arrangement. Think about how the piece will look in the context of its surroundings. Often, this part of the visualization process is overlooked; it is important, though, to not just decide that two flowers will go well together but instead picture how these flowers will go with the rest of the room. Apart from this, there is a significant amount of wiggle room in the design of modern floral arrangements as a variety of flowers can work in various settings. Just remember: if you are designing for a minimalist room, a centerpiece is still entirely possible if you simply design a more bare arrangement.
