How to Build a Collectors’ Library on a Budget Fortunately, you do not have to spend a fortune to be able to have a collection of books that you enjoy reading. There is a certain charm in having your own collection of books that you can curl up with and reread while you enjoy a cup of hot chocolate. The thought of having a special little nook that you can retreat to immerse yourself in your books is thrilling. So how do you get started? Zoning Prepare a station for you book collection. It does not have to be a whole room dedicated to books. you can clear out an existing shelf to use just for books. If you do not own a shelf, you can buy one at your local flea market. You are bound to get an antique piece of furniture with character at a fair price. List To avoid becoming a hoarder, prepare a list of the books you would reread over and over without becoming bored with. This should be books from your favorite authors or the ones that make you feel inspired. You can also add potential reads that you would love a copy of. Budget Prepare a budget and decide how much you are willing to spend on the endeavor. Then set aside some money every month for book purchases. Consider buying books from a resale shop. One man’s trash is another mon’s treasure and you are bound to find great books in these stores. Barter trade Go through your existing book collection and weed out the ones you no longer enjoy to make room for more books. Then find a book readers’ forum that encourages exchange of books amongst its member. This is a great way to get books you would love to read without spending any money. Additionally, if you fall out of love with a book, you can always exchange it. Research Find out which thrift shops sell books both physically and online. Last but not least, borrow books from your local library before you commit to buying your own copy.
