24 - 30 NOVEMBER 2013 Organised by Blindboys.org with the support of the local group 5.60UZPKLY, BLOWUP Angkor returned to the streets of Siem Reap for the fourth year! Hundreds of photographs were KPZWSH`LK VU W\ISPJ ^HSSZ in Old Market area and the French Quarter, as well as outside of the Angkor High School. As night descended, a YV]PUN TVIPSL projector was set up at WVW\SHY SVJHS OH\U[Z such as the Khmer Pub Street and the Road 60 Carnival area, showcasing uniquely curated slideshows for the public. Teaming up with local businesses, BLOWUP Angkor also hosted late night projections sessions at popular venues such as (ZHUH 6SK >VVKLU /V\ZL, The Mouy at Prince D’Angkor Hotel, 3H\UKY` Bar, and The Loft.

PORTFOLIO REVIEWS 24 - 29 NOVEMBER 2013

For the second year, the festival organised a series of portfolio reviews for all visiting photographers. 6MMLYLK JVTWSL[LS` MYLL VM JOHYNL for six days, it was an invaluable opportunity for photographers to have their work reviewed and critiqued by industry professionals. All our portfolio reviewers graciously accepted the invitation to be a part of our reviewers panel, and we are most grateful to them for volunteering their time and expertise.

Welcome to the 9th Edition of the Angkor Photo Festival. Created in 2005, the Angkor Photo Festival is the longest-running international photography festival in Southeast Asia. The annual weeklong event is held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, and aims to be a platform showcasing and highlighting top photography by both celebrated and emerging photographers from all over the world. With a unique focus on discovering new talents, especially from Asia, the festival also acts as an accessible, inclusive platform for photography professionals to meet and interact.

Neak Sophal, a 24-year-old graduate of Phnom Penh’s Royal University of Fine Arts, won the award for her collection "The Hang On". Françoise Callier, program coordinator of the Angkor Photo Festival, said the 24-year-old photographer was chosen as the winner because she told the real story of Cambodian people through her photos.

2013 Photo Festival :::: Ninth Angkor Photographer ::: The Travel

professional training to young photographers from Asia. This year they will work with 30 young people from 11 Asian countries. Their work will be on show on the closing night of the festival (Nov. 30) in the Raffles Grand Hotel D’Angkor Gardens. On top of this, 50 children from Anjali House in Siem Reap will take part in a 10-day workshop. By encouraging creative expression, the workshops boost self-confidence, social interaction and educational development. The results will be on show at the Children’s Day showcase at Shinta Mani hotel on Nov. 28. “This year it will be easier for the public to join us. We are also staging a retrospective of all the work from the Children’s Workshops from the last eight years and the slideshow that night will be selected with children in mind, with photographs which they can enjoy,” says Lim. A festival and workshop centre will be located at The Loft near Old Market, where free portfolio review sessions, artists’ talks and seminars will be hosted. The sessions are free of charge, open to all and run each afternoon for the duration of the festival. A catalogue will also be on sale for the first time this year.
