ngkor Photo Festival & Workshops (APFW) kicks off its 11th edition this coming December 5 with a wide range of works on the menu.
As per usual, the festival program includes a lineup of seven projection evenings and seven exhibitions showcasing the works of famous and emerging artists both from the region and globally. The styles vary, as do the subjects, but the focus tends to remain on story-telling and photojournalism, an approach to photography APFW has always promoted for its power to inform and to affect change.

This year’s projections will include an evening titled The Impact Project. The themed series focuses on individuals, groups, or small organisations that are having a positive impact on social or environmental issues.

Fighters, which focuses on the daily life of female fighters in Iraq and Syria; Zalmaï’s Dreads and Dream, a body of work that represents 5 years of documenting his native war-torn Afghanistan; Miquel Dewever Plana’s Hach Winik, a dreamy look at Mexico’s Lacandon Indians; and Tomasz Tomaszewski’s Cyganie (Gypsy), a candid portrait of Europe’s Romany peoples. As every year, APFW offers daily portfolio reviews by renowned professional photographers to anyone who wants to have their work critiqued. Afternoon Sessions include a bookmaking workshop, an artists sharing forum with Cambodia’s own Ruom collective, and a talk on man, nature and technology in the arts.
