Who runs ARU Students’ Union? You do! Every year all ARU students get the chance to vote for the six students, known as Officers, who will take a year out of their studies to lead the Union and work full-time representing you.
They battled it out in the March elections for the chance to lead ARU Students’ Union this year. They’re here to support and represent you, campaign for positive change and help you get involved with all our amazing opportunities.
It’s their job to take the student voice to the university – and that includes yours!

Where we live
Our guide to Cambridge
Come and find us on the ground floor of Peter Taylor House where you’ll find:
Punting on the River This is an absolute Cambridge tradition. You can hire a punt (boat) and a guide to take you along the river and show you the sights or, if you’re feeling daring, you can have a go at doing it yourself (just try not to fall in!). Grab some friends and a picnic and head down to the river.
• A casual study space and a great place to hang out with friends • Bean-bags • Study booths (with plenty of power points) • Bookable meeting spaces • A kettle to make free tea and coffee • A microwave so you can heat up your food
The Students’ Union is the ideal place to come and study in groups, meet up with friends, or simply relax.
The Eagle This pub is where Watson and Crick famously announced their discovery of DNA. You can even take a photo at the very spot they sat in. Local ales and tasty pub grub in a cosy spot, plus a beautiful courtyard, make this a must visit pub. Mill Road This is a thriving international area full of independent shops selling everything from vintage clothes and books to homemade baklava and fresh watermelon. Coffee shops abound and once a year the whole street is closed to host the Mill Road Christmas Market. Parkers Piece, Midsummer Common and Jesus Green Cambridge is home to an array of beautiful parks which host some of the city’s biggest annual events, including Strawberry Fair, Cambridge Beer Festival and Bonfire Night fireworks. Cambridge University Library As an ARU student you can use this library too. This is a copyright library, meaning a copy of pretty much any book ever written can be found here!

Representation As well as the full-time Officer Team, every year we help you elect a part-time student Course Representative for every year of every course, as well as Campaign Representatives for minority groups. Course Representative Elections take place in October so, if you think you could represent the voice of students on your course, you should think about standing. We’re dedicated to improving your everyday student experience and our Representatives play a huge part in making that happen. Head online to find out more.
“My inspiration is that every student will have a different experience and can come up with suggestions of how to improve the student experience. This is the reason I chose to volunteer my time and be a Course Rep!”

Student Brains Required We need people aged 18-30 to take part in our research. You would be asked to complete computerised experiments or take part in brain scanning studies. We will pay you £6 or £10 per hour depending on the type of study. You will receive a picture of your brain if you take part in an fMRI brain scan.
http://www.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk/take-part/ The MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit is one of the world’s leading centres of research looking at the brain’s phenomenal capacities in language, memory, perception, reasoning and creativity. We also study the effects of brain injuries and mood disorders, looking for new ways to help people regain function.

The SU Awards are a chance to dress to impress, see your hard-work up in shining lights, and round off your year in style.
“Am absolutely over the moon to share this! I was honoured to have just been nominated for this award - I really didn’t think I would win.
