CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENT CHRISTOPHER MASON 1 Professionalism – I want to work towards creating a more professional Students Union. Improve the level of customer service, reduce the amount of time wasted for everyone etc. 2 My Loud Small Voice policy is to work towards making the smallest voices just as loud as the bigger voices. Some of the quietest people have the biggest and best ideas. I want to get them heard. 3 I want to continue fighting for and with the students of Anglia Ruskin to bring improvements across the whole student experience.

JOHANNA KORHONEN 1 I’m the current ALSS Vice President and I have the knowledge, contacts and determination to be the next SU President. I care about every student and want everyone to feel represented and part of the ARU community. 2 I believe small wins are often most significant because they make everyday life better, whether it’s food variety, room availability or flexible submissions! I want to solve YOUR issues more effectively! 3 My focus is to strengthen representation of minority groups, and of faculties, be visible and accountable, inclusive and sustainable, and lobby for more student space.

K A I L E B B R YA N T 1 Student Wellbeing - The statistics showing how many students face depression and other mental health problems are frightening. I pledge to make wellbeing my top priority, and making it easier for students to get help, and to feel safer. 2 Treating students as individuals - Sweeping statements don’t apply to every student. The student body is diverse, and should be respected as such. 3 Maintaining strong relationships - of course my strongest relationship will be with the students. But it is also important to maintain a strong relationship between the Union and ARU, as well as the community.

READ THE FULL MANIFESTOS & VOT E AT A N G L I A S T U D E N T.COM/VOT E LAURA DOUDS 1 Student housing: I will investigate rent prices, campaign for lower rent and better quality accommodation, promote tenancy rights and hold ‘find a flatmate’ events. 2 Community: I will create a community you can be proud to be a part of by celebrating History Months, hosting events over the Winter holidays for people who can’t go home, and campaigning on the BME attainment gap. 3 Mental health: I will keep up momentum on the Let’s Be Honest campaign, with a focus on how to support your friends if they’re struggling, and improving the current counselling system.

RANDOLPH FIELDS A larger students union with more societies 1 We need to cater for more individuals

In real life power is shared across numerous small groups, such as us and our friends, there are countless groups like this with shared interests. We need to make it easier, simpler and faster to start a society.

2 We need to improve degree value

Committee membership and volunteering increases the average value of ARU degrees.

3 We need to create democratic structures to empower students

The larger number of societies will cause a rise in ARU SU funds for new facilities for us to enjoy. This would also cause a massive pool of student leadership, we can use this to run the SU in an assertive way using grassroots student democracy to inform policy

WAMBUI GITAU Life is a journey. It’s more interesting when there’s a purpose to it. 1 EDUCATION translates uniqueness. 2 EMPOWERED INSPIRATION fuels the journey to success. 3 COLLABORATIVE NETWORKING is the heart of innovation and diversity.

CANDIDATES FOR VICE PRESIDENT ARTS, LAW AND SOCIAL SCIENCES AMANDA CAMPBELL WHITE 1 Progression for a permanent bar on Cambridge Campus. 2 Making the student experience the best that it can be to create success together. 3 The opportunity for all students to be able to access ‘managing stress’ workshops and provide more creative outlets for stress relief.

CHIZOBA ISU-OMO 1 Exceptional accountability, as well as suitability to see that the department serves the student’s interest. 2 Measures to bridge the gap between students and the department to ensure inclusivity for all. 3 Good standards across the department and maintenance of a healthy education Support Partnership for both students and staffs.

DEMI SMITH 1 Improving collaboration between students and the SU; whether this is by encouraging students to set up more societies, doing more events with existing societies, encouraging more students to become Course, Liberation, or Faculty reps, or a combination of all that and more! 2 After the worrying statistics about mental health waiting times for university students, I’d love to work closely with any and all organisations available to us to make sure ARU students aren’t affected. 3 I want to hear more feedback and be able to put more news out from ALSS course reps in any year before, so students feel represented and informed.

READ THE FULL MANIFESTOS & VOT E AT A N G L I A S T U D E N T.COM/VOT E JAMES MORGANS 1 Tackling Mental Health - ALSS faculty has the highest number of students with mental health issues, this means we need to protect our students. 2 Improved Library - Make sure our key texts are always available online and in physical form. 3 Societies at the forefront of the SU - Make sure we continue to correctly fund and celebrate societies, an integral part of our Student’s Union.

LARS WOOLNOUGH 1 For my top three priorities first and foremost would be societies, as not only am I very involved with societies but also am trying to push for hopefully new ways we could promote and innovate societies. 2 Secondly accessibility, as I feel more can be done that isn’t to try and make the resources we have available whenever they’re needed instead of when they are open. 3 Finally mental health as university is quite the stressful environment, we should always look for ways to try and relieve students in any way shape or form, no matter how big of small it is.

R YA N P R I C E 1 Value students mental health 2 Create a space for everyone/chill out zone 3 More spaces for students to use/work/book

I want EVERY student to be represented within university. 2 To continue to fight for a seat at the table for faculty decision making. 3 To campaign on issues that matter to students, such as the cost of living.

F R A S E R L U T H E R -YA R W O O D My 3 priorities will be funding, resources and communication. 1 As students we pay around £9,000 a year on course fees, I don’t believe we should pay out any more for placements and other essentials, so I feel a new funding system should be put in place to support students. 2 Students should also have access to a lot more resources than they currently are. Medical students should have access to the new medical school and other students should get more help finding placement opportunities as jobs nowadays love those with a degree and experience. 3 Finally communication, I would like to set up a peer mentoring programme to help 1st year students and international students settle into student life easier as well as getting support socially and academically.

CANDIDATES FOR VICE PRESIDENT SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ALEXANDER TOWEY 1 To create an academic environment where people can develop their technology and ideas. 2 Promote the best aspects of the student societies and increase engagement with them. 3 Put effort to develop music events and social interactions between different course groups across all ARU campus’.

D AV I D O L I V E R C H E E S E M A N 1 Spaces, somewhere to chill- Improve the social spaces around the university. Actually get the long eluded to student bar on campus. 2 Education, its what we’re here for-Aim to improve educational resources at all levels of study ensuring that all levels have equal opportunities. 3 Social events, who doesn’t love a party– there are limited opportunities for students to socialise outside of teaching hours with their course mates, this could be changed through regular social events and formals at the end of each semester.

L EO N A L F R E D O S TA F FA 1 Make sure the university keep to their word and find a good substitute for faculty boards so that our voices continue to be heard loud and clear. 2 Continue and build upon the amazing work already done for mental health and carry on supporting all and any issues students have. 3 Build upon and create a real community feel between the entire of ARU, we are stronger together than we are separate.

READ THE FULL MANIFESTOS & VOT E AT A N G L I A S T U D E N T.COM/VOT E M AT T H AY E S 1 No one should have to wait months when they feel at their worst - mental health services need improving an waiting times need reducing. 2 In order to create the university that students want to see, I will work closely with student reps to realise their visions. 3 I will help students create success together by improving the networking between clubs and societies and encourage them to plan events to utilise the fantastic spaces at the university like The Academy.
