Community News HERMAN J. CIMINESI HONORED AT BRANT SUMMER FEST & STRAWBERRY JAM

SUMMER TWILIGHT TOURS AT GRAYCLIFF

The Graycliff Conservancy announces Summer Twilight Tours of the Graycliff Estate on select Friday evenings in July and August. The cares of the work-a-day world will drift away as you experience the tranquility of a Summer Twilight at Graycliff. Frank Lloyd Wright imbued his design of Graycliff with what he called “repose.”; the simplicity and calm of splendid architecture set amidst verdant acres of grounds on the brim of the lake. Graycliff’s rich history and architectural splendor, set against the serenity of Lake Erie, can be yours for a summer twilight. Listen to the sounds of the water lapping against the shore, the cool breeze rustling the tall old trees, the birds calling each to each. Enjoy a leisurely guided tour, and relax with a glass of wine, coupled with a selection of cheeses and summer fruits as the rest of the world fades away into the twilight. Fridays: July13, July 20, July 27, August 3 and 10, 2012; 6 pm to 8:30 pm. Reservations and pre-payment required. Please call 716947-9217 or email graycliff@verizon.net for information. See our website at www.graycliffestate.org. ________

RUSTIC RAMBLERS TO PRESENT COUNTRY CLASSICS AT GAZEBO

On Wednesday, July 4th the local group, Rustic Ramblers will be playing classic country at the Angola Gazebo in Centennial Park at 7:00 pm. The evening is sponsored by The Latimore-Schiavone Funeral Home. The park is one block in back of the Angola Post Office. The Rustic Ramblers is basically a traditional-type Country/Western group which performs vocals and instrumentals dating back to the 50’s - 70’s. Occasionally some rock-a-billy might slip in, but the majority of the tunes are traditional country in nature. The members of the band are experienced musicians who have played around at he Western New York area for years. They include Howard Buck from Fredonia on lead guitar, David Bailey from Mayville on drums, Gene Hilts from west Valley on steel guitar, and Dan Zora from Angola on bass. Handicapped parking is off High and Center Streets if you arrive early. The Brant-Evans Girl Scouts run the refreshment stand and the ice cream man makes a stop too. The rain location for all of the summer concerts is the New Angola Theater on North Main Street. Next week, on Wednesday, July 11th Caribbean Extravaganza will present Calypso, Reggae and Island Music. They are sponsored by Friends Of The Village and Shultz & Company- Hardware and Appliances, Angola’s oldest business having started in 1861! Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the evening. ________

At the Town Board meeting on Tuesday June 12th, the Brant Town Board unanimously proclaimed June 1516-17th as Herman J. Ciminesi days at the annual Brant Summer Fest and awarded him a plaque to be placed on the wall of achievement at our new town hall. Herman served our town residents for over 25 years and as a Town Supervisor for 18 consecutive years, more than any other Supervisor in town history. The Brant Summer Fest was a huge success for all that attended (approximately 2000 people for the 3 day event). The diversity of the food, beverage, games, contests, events, merchant vendors and the free give away was delightful not to mention the Strawberry Short Cake. On Friday the jam began with the music of Two Left Boots and the fun carried over into Saturday with a Parade at 1 pm, Classic car showing, Donkey race, a Strawberry Pie eating contest, free mini sweet peppers grilling and coupon give away (Pero Family Farms) and at 5 pm music by Only Up From Here, then at 7:30 pm the Headliner of the jam was Nashville recording artist Everett Lee and the Underground Stampede which rounded out the evening. On Sunday, Fathers were given 18 oz. jars of Strawberry Jam that was donated by the Carriage House of Fredonia, NY. Sunday was also Goya day. They gave away canned goods all day and then two Goya representatives (Diane & Donna) judged the Goya cook off and had a very difficult time judging the winners. The senior citizens baked good sale, photo contest, obstacle run championship, Brant Farnham Historical Display, basket raffle and water ball contest rounded out the Festival. A huge thank you to Goya Foods, Pero Family Farms, Lake Shore Youth Football, all the vendors, Farnham & Angola Fire departments for their participation in the games, to the Brant, Farnham, North Collins & Lawtons fire companies and all parade participants, also a special thank you to all that helped and had a good time at our annual event. The winners of the events are as follows: Parade $50 each category Most Beautiful- (Palm Trees) Nora Lemke, Most Original- (Golf) Borngraber, Most Unique- (Donkeys) Daniel, Community Spirit- Gugino Lawn & Garden; Classic Car Showing 1st place $150- 53 Chevy PickupMike Chiavetta- 2nd place $100 - 37 Dodge Ray Pugh; 3rd place $50- 52 Pontiac Ray Pugh; Pie Eating Contest 1st place $50 Aaron Speck- 2nd place $25 Alexis Carey- 3rd place $10 Walter Mericki; Donkey Race (Town Clerks) Tie 1 win apiece Brant Town Clerk Barb Daniel & Persia Town Clerk Denise Trumpore; Obstacle Course 1st place $100 Aaron Speck- 2nd place $50 Anthony tabb- 3rd place $25 Rick Murawski; Goya Cook Off 1st place $100 Jen Serwinowski (Goya Nacho Dip) 2nd place $50 Cindy Gonser (Calico Baked Beans) 3rd place $25 tracy Kaczmarek (Goya Goulash); Water Ball Contest 1st place Shane Friend (“windmill” “sunset”) 2nd place- Patty Friend (“Cow girl Phyllis Muscato”) 3rd place- Emily Nolan (“WehrFritz Boys’) Honorable Mention- Elaine Aherns (“Winter at the Creek”). BURSTEIN BUZZING ABOUT INCREASED MOSQUITO AWARENESS Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein today reminded Erie County residents about the dangers of mosquitoes and West Nile Virus, following the discovery of a pool of West Nile Virus positive (WNV+) mosquitoes in Amherst. The pool, comprised os 50 specimens of Culex pipiensrestuans, was collected from a gravid trap on June 14 and is the first WNY+ mosquito pool collected in the Town of Amherst in 2012 to date. “With summer here and more people being active outdoors, it’s imperative to take steps to minimize mosquito contact with your skin and decrease the mosquito burden in your immediate area,,” said Dr. Burstein. “Use insect repellent containing at least 25% DEET (10% for children) when you can, and wear a long sleeve shirt and long pants especially during the evening hours. There are also ways to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds in your yard, including dumping out standing water, cleaning clogged gutters, and changing the water in your bird bath.” The Erie County Department of Health (“ECDOH”) recommends several other strategies to “fight the bite”, including maintaining your pool by chlorinating and filtering; maintaining ornamental ponds by stocking them with fish and using bubblers and fountains; removing used tires from your property; eliminating any stagnant water in tin cans, plastic containers, or any container that holds water; and repairing window and door screens. Burstein continued, “People at higher risk from mosquito bites are the immune-comprised, the elderly, and the very young. Residents should use common sense when they are outside and be aware of the environments that produce and protect mosquitoes; stagnant, standing water and weeds, tall grass and shrubbery, which provide an outdoor home for mosquitoes. Dress appropriately, use insect repellant, and eliminate or stay away from mosquito-prone areas where you can. Parents should remember to ensure their children are protected too.” For more information on West Nile Virus, visit http:// www2.erie.gov/health/index.php?q=west-nile-virus. Support Support A.B.A. A.B.A.T T.E. .E.

JULY 7th, 2011 will forever be embedded in our memories. This is the day that we lost a son, brother, father, friend, boss, and so much more. On this day, Sgt. David Brown got onto his Harley to enjoy the sunset on a beautiful July Day. This tragedy occurred just two minutes from his house on Route 5 at the road crossing of North Creek. Dave took his final breath that day - all the while doing what he loved. May our captain look down and shine light on our ship and guide us through rough waters. His strength and courage will be in our hearts as we are keeping his dream alive.

A.B.A.T.E. of New York (American Bikers Aimed Towards Education) is an organization promoting motorcycle safety, awareness, & education since 1974. A.B.A.T.E. is a group of individuals from different backgrounds coming together to ensure that the motorcycling lifestyle will still be an enjoyable lifestyle for their children and grandchildren. They do this by making sure that motorcyclists’ point of view is presented to our legislators.

ON JULY 8th, 2012 the A.B.A.T.E. organization will be doing a run from West Seneca and ending their run at Scallywags Grub & Spirits in Derby where David co-founded this restaurant with his sister Deebe. All proceeds will go to the A.B.A.T.E. organization as they honor our community and educate all. There have been a number of fatalities and many injuries THIS year alone!!!

Won’t you come help us honor David on his 1 year anniversary in the best way we know how? Joining us will be his parents from Mississippi and 2 daughters from Maine. NO COVER! NO TICKETS! FREE Buffet! Live Music! Well Drink & Draft Specials! Stoli and Bud Light Platinum Girls with samples and give-aways!

Roll With Gordo

In Memory of David Brown We L You ove ! July 1, 1968 ~ July 7, 2011

On any given day you would find David in our front yard playing with our kids. He enjoyed nothing more than quality family time. As a husband, father, friend, employer and colleague, he was one of the good guys that everyone wanted to be around. He was the guy everyone called on when they needed help with something. Although David was a hard worker, all of his life he finally realized that “You can’t get too busy making a living that you forget to make a life,” and being a good husband and father meant more to him than anything he could ever own. We dreamt of the days when we would be enjoying our grandchildren and traveling as a retired couple. We will be forever saddened by his absence from our lives. Our hearts are full of memories and with pride we speak your name. Though life goes on without you, it will never be the same.
