t is a must for the incoming fourth year College of Arts and Sciences students to undergo an internship that would require them to render particular hours for jobs which are related to their degree programs. Hence, it is a pre-requisite for graduation. Before they would start the internship, these students need to enroll themselves during the summer. It is essential for the accreditation of their practicum grades. However, confusions start to rise during the enrollment day. Pursed lips, distorted eyebrows and undecided eyes were some of their reactions when they talked about the miscellaneous fee. Though some were feigning ignorance and tried to act cool just to get over with the enrollment process.
TIME TO PROBE
A survey was done among the affected students. “ Nahibung ko nganung na-ay miscellaneous fee nga dili man mi sa eskwelahan mag-OJT (On the Job Training).
–April Rose Supangan, BA Literature “ Ingun sila included naman jud daw ng library fees sa miscellaneous fees and all that jazz. –Jessica Marie, BA Tourism Management

“ Nganu kahang mubayad ta ana nga dili man ta makagamit gihapon sa computer lab, sa library unya naa pa sad diay athletics fee.” –Marielle Mahilum, BA Literature “ Maglibog ko nga maglagot. Wa mi kasabot nganung kinahanglan pa mubayad. Halos tanan di man ari mag-practicum sa eskwelahan.” –Ru-
He also explained that there is a possibility for an increase in the miscellaneous fee if the application would be reasonable. The amount will only change if the Board of Regents will have a meeting. If agreed upon, it would still undergo a bureaucratic process since we’re linked with the government.
Whole summer ang amu’ng gasto so doble2x among gasto.” –Empycollin Pilapil, BA Communication And the list of complaint goes on. may be over but after a month or two,
OH SHOOT, DILEMMA
how the miscellaneous fee became a necessity during the summer enrollment. There’s not even a single idea how it became a part of the payment.
GOING BEYOND WHAT’S QUANTIFIABLE
To put an end to the students’ uncertainties, we tried to clarify the CAS. It’s part of the regulation may it be private or public. Not because nga wala mo mugamit sa facilities kay the fact nga during sa enrollment you are asking for the services of both the admin and the academic that would ” said Dr. Joseph Sol Galleon, Associate Dean of CAS. library, athletics, medical, dental and others would be directed to their respective funds since they also need it for both stability and sustainability. “ Kanang P500 (miscellaneous fee) di man gud na nato mausab kay that’s the amount approved by the Board of Regents. Pareha sa ubang university, unless mu-ingun ang university nga we would increase the miscellaneous, mausab gyud na,” he added.

ANOTHER
Here goes a different puzzle for the students: the practicum fee (P400). tuition fee, they were asked to go to the Management Information System (MIS) for the encoding process so that in their study loads; which also means that there’d be another payment. As an attempt to dig out pieces of information for this fee, an interview was conducted with the University System Administrator, Mr. Omar Roma. “Ang amung role diri is to de-
(memorandum order) nga gi-forward diri sa amu from the administration,” he said. Mr. Roma disclosed that the Acble about the matter. Hence, further details were sought after where a simple yet very authoritative an answer was given by Mrs. Sonia Alferez, the Administrative Aide VI of the Accounting Department. “ Naa man gyud na siya. Ang Education (referring to CTE) dugay na gyud na, ang inyoha bag-o ra,” said Mrs. Alferez.
AIMING FOR LEVITY
Alright, the info has been laid out but let’s try to look for the bigger picture here. Let alone restrictions and dogmatism. If the students were again asked about these fees, they’d only continue to rant with their complaints. What seems to space out the students’ awareness about this matter have something to do with proper information dissemination.

COSPLAY (kosupure), a contraction (or portmanteau) of the English words “costume” and “play”, is a Japanese subculture centered on dressing as characters from manga, anime, and video games, and, less commonly, Japanese live action television shows, Japanese movies, or Japanese pop music bands. However, in some circles, “cosplay” has been expanded to mean simply wearing a costume. (Wikipedia) It has been on the mainstream of current Philippine pop culture since lots of Filipino (young and young at heart) nurture a love for anime, computer games, harajuku fashion, Lolita, and japanese culture. This type of hobby wherein they attend cosplay/hobby conventions and events about cosplay from them.

1 Why are you in love with cosplay? Ever since I was an Elementary student, I am
2
being an otaku is not complete without cosplaying your favorite anime/manga character. Cosplay makes me feel that I am part of the anime world.
Is cosplay an art? I think it’s up to the cosplayer. Cosplay is an expression, you only consider it as an art if the cosplayer expressed it in a creative form. If not, I’d rather call it simply as dressing up. And everyday, everybody dresses up, which is so not cosplay because if you’re a cosplayer, your character (not you) should stand out.

Is cosplay a form of expression?
Yes. Also, it is an art. It is in cosplay wherein I am able to express my other side and let others know that I am still having fun even if I have a lot of responsibilities to conquer.
4 Is cosplay challenging? costumes. You really have to be creative and explore the downtown or even the internet to look for textiles, wigs, lenses and other stuffs in order for you to really copy the character’s look. Cosplay make up is also hard since it is different from the usual that we see on pageants and such. Cosplay may be challenging but still it gives me an unexplainable happiness during events and conventions.

NG SUGA CONDUCTED a poll to some CTE and CN students on what they’ve noticed on the Liberals. This is done to hear the sides of a non-liberal, who might be annoyed and or unused to the culture a CAS student have practiced into tradition. Here are some of their responses:
talented and some are intimidating, judgemental, snobbish and very self- conscious.
councilor in Brgy. Tipolo in Mandaue. But how does she handle all of these duties? “As a Normal CAS student, I love working under stress. I love working under pressure because mahandle ra ko na through eating and praying,” she shared. The liberals tend to balance their tasks, as what Veloso believes, “it’s all about prioritizing”. “Being a governor is not a hindrance to me being a cosplayer, an SK, a youth for Christ. Murag it’s really up to the person. Mao nay gitawag nga ‘if there’s a will, there will always be a way’,” cited Veloso. Veritas et Pulchritudo: Truth and Beauty. But for

BEAUTY, LOVE, or EDUCATION? “My topmost priority is my education. Because I believe that to have an education, to have a degree, this is the only thing that one can’t steal it from others. And I can pursue my dreams having also my education.” – ? “Being one of the co- founders of the Barbie Society, Because after education, we will have everything: the fame, then the love because we already have the ‘laugh’. After education, we can do everything we want to do to ourselves.” — Charlon L. Oncenes, 18, BS Biology III, co- founder and spokesperson of Barbie Society. “Education. Ang lovelife muabot ra man gud na in time, di ba? Then beauty, everyone has beauty if you have the brain.” — Ace Kimberly A. Laviña, 18, BA Communication III “Beauty . Kay unsay naa sa education? Naa may beauty sa education, di ba? Sa lovelife, naa sa’y beauty sa lovelife. So, beauty akong pilion.” —Rex D. Gavin, 18, BS Math IV & Pointguard, Red Phoenix
Sometimes, the Liberals do complain to their professors. A few even babble to the securities whenever they were barred to enter the campus because they dressup improperly – inappropriate (as they say) hair color, cut and style. Yes, they’re not tight-lipped and they express what their concerns are. But hey, they obey The 1987 Constitution sets forth the guarantee to our freedom of expression as stated in Article 3 section 4, “No law shall be passed abridging the freedom of speech, of expression, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and petition of the government for redress of grievances.” In an interview with the Ang Suga, SSG Senator and BA Political Science student Licerio John C. Baruc,18, was asked and provided a situation wherein he was given a certain task by their teacher yet it’s impossible to be done in a limited time, “As a typical student, mohangyo gyud ko kay imo gud nang buhaton. Muhangyo gyud ko nga tagaan ko ug laing another chance,” Baruc answered. “But actually, failure gyud na siya sa student, dili na siya sala sa teacher,” he added. “It pays to be good. And humility is the mother of all virtues,” Baruc ended.
PAPER SCARCITY
Human beings are the only creatures in the world who cut trees, make papers from it and write “SAVE TREES”. Some Liberals doesn’t pay money for paper and notebooks; they’d just rely on their teachers’ handouts which is, at least, a great help to reduce the paper consumption while conserving our ecosystem in a little way. It’s a usual scenario during exams, a CAS student doesn’t have his own paper. Yes, it’s true. They tend to ask it from their seatmates (especially CTE students xoxo). Here is an interview with this English-Language student who doesn’t happen to have any connections with cutting trees — but on writing on papers, absolutely yes. John Carlo Añonuevo, 19, shared to the Ang Suga why he still doesn’t need to buy a paper, “Ug muabot
He even revealed when he started not buying papers, “High school pa man ko walay palit- palit ug papel.” And his excuse was, “Mas daghan pa man ug importanting butang (nga paliton) kaysa papel.” You may perhaps be doubting if really, he’s telling a truth or a lie. Ask him, what will he use during exams if he doesn’t have any paper at all, he’ll surely answer you this —“Naa may test papers.” To note: Liberals are eco warriors and tree-lovers. Several tree- planting activities were done by the department as part of the university’s extension program. One was in Caputatan Norte(Medellin), 2010 and the other is in MCWD- Jaclupan, Talisay City, 2012. Añonuevo was able to join the latter.
LIPSTICK
A sumptuous-red-or-pink paint strikes the most lips of every Normalites. It’s a widespread among Liberal ladies. Putting a lipstick has been part of their everyday routine. This is common among them, however, putting lipstick has been the most noticeable part of their grooming wrapping every eyelash with mascara and etc . “Four times a day,” as this senior BTM lady, Gemarlie Jane Y. Benturado, 19, imparted on how many times she puts lipstick a day. She even revealed that she touches up “every morning, lunch, afternoon, and before going home”. According to Benturado, she loves to wear red or pink colored lipstick and as she was asked why, “Feminine man gud ang pink then ang red kay seductive,” she says. On the other hand, putting such make- up also depends on the mood and the weather. “Mas nindot ang red if rainy season then mas maayo man gud kung sunny season, lighter colors.” But what can they say with other people’s reaction of them retouching at ‘improper places?’ “Ang- ang hugaw man ang CR,” she said. “Lahi ra man jud kung makaeskwela ka’g College,” Gerson Ramil said. It was like he’s talking more to himself than to me. Yes, he is reminiscing, treading back the path where he came…recollecting everything. Quite aware that the deluge of information – this fast-paced world has offered enormous opportunities for great knowledge – he stares into space, thinking how to get along, how to belong. Suddenly, his desire was given a chance at becoming real, along with the dreams of a lot more people like him.
Gerson Ramil, 21, graduated High School on 2008. He planned to take up Business Management afterward, but that remained a plan. Nah, don’t blame it on him, blame it to their monthly income. Try your arithmetic and compute how much does a construction worker stepfather and an errand boy get after a month’s hard work. He was not lucky enough to pursue his studies like several other young people. As if hearing this silent shout from his dreaming heart, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and the Department of Labor and Employment collaborated and produced a scholarship program for the underprivileged called Students’ Grants-inaid Program for Poverty Alleviation (SGP-PA). This is anchored on one of the government’s ongoing programs to alleviate poverty, the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in aims to break the chain of poverty in the country brought about by illiteracy and under-education. scholars in the region. These scholars came from the coming from the lowest 609 municipalities as surveyed by government of 30 000 per semester per student.

“Hala, makaeskwela ko’g College?!!” were the scholar from Inayagan, City of Naga, Cebu. Gerson was discouraged by his neighbors, but he neglected them. He wants to reach his dream. Tinuod man sad gyud, lisud,” he remarked. His co-scholars also shared their thoughts. Naka adjust na ko” Romel Deguit, another SGP-PA scholar also said.
Imagine a baby delivered during the teenage years of his mother, 19 to be exact. Then, he was left by his father without even introducing himself to the poor creation. Lived with his construction-worker stepfather and 9 other children who were aftershocks of the tremor his stepfather made to his mother’s life. Since then, he witnessed the unfair treatments and the hardships of life. He strived to study hard to help the family he grew up with. Luck stepped in and he became a scholar with the sponsorship of a nun. Due to failure to attend church-related works, he lost the scholarship. Because he loves to study, he worked as an errand boy to support his studies. He swore to meet his father before graduation, and when that most awaited moment came, heard only “Naa lagi ka Dong?” He worked after High School. He never lost interest for further education. I know, I know. Heart-wrenching, isn’t it? A perfect MMK entry. That is Gerson Ramil’s story. A story of determination and passion for education which led him to the portals of CNU. There are 157 stories in the SGP-PA family and there are a lot more stories inside this campus waiting to be revealed.
James Ariola also expressed his gratefulness and further said, “Kung makaeskwela man gud ka, daku nga part sa imung kinabuhi ang mausab.
Today, the SGP-PA scholars are facing a Normalite life full of adventures (I bet you understand what I mean by this). Though they government and have no boarding house yet, they are still hoping that after graduation, SGPPA will still continue to help a lot more people like them. Students and faculties alike extended their help to these scholars through donating clothes. A motion for the members of the Scholars’ Society to conduct tutorials to them is also being studied. For the time being, some of them are staying at DSWD while others seek refuge in the relatives of their relatives. Some of them even applied for the Student Loan and thanked God that there is a Php3.00-siomai sold just outside the premises which they buy for their meals. In the end, “Di gyud ma successful kung wa’y Education,” as what Gerson Ramil said, is the mantra they live on.
“After 4 years, makatrabaho na mi, di pareha sa amua nga anha ra sa uma. Di na mi mabulad sa init,” Francisco Poldencio said.
Some of them may not have donned their school uniforms nor sport shiny black shoes but hey, who says they’re sorry? They may stand out from the crowd for having to wear civilian but they belong to the CNU family. They got the CEBU NORMAL UNIVERSITY STUDENT ID.

WE ARE UNDER THE UMBRELLA of an institution best known for keeping grace under pressure. The school is not only a place for devouring dogmas on distinguishing what is grammatically correct and of variables in quadratic expressions; it also serves as an extension of our individual homes. We are a people of different idealisms and culture but amidst the distinctiveness in character and personality, one that help them progress into a better version of themselves. We are surrounded by a wide variety of kaleidoscopic social groups, each with its own culture different and unique from the other. These organizations have fueled its members with great avidity and variegated visions on life as a normalite that despite all the tensions and pressures the academic curriculum has exposed its students to; there is always room for a little pinch of bliss. These are perfect outlets for social development as an individual and are ideal foundations for camaraderie and integrity as a whole.
What’s a better way to build a stronger group than to utilize the universal source of interest of the
networking has played an imposing role in the expansion of different social groups in the campus. Communication is vital to human instinct and this is what the internet has provided. Even the school itself has embraced the wonders that the cyber world has made available. The internet has become a medium in showcasing the heritage and educational grandeur of the institute. It not only helps disseminate information, it also heightens our appreciation on how it has established splendor and resist mediocrity after withstanding the invasions of time. Social organizations in the institution have progressed and have entered the portals of the internet; equipped with a more convenient and better way of emerging instrument in promoting oneness, placidity and amity in organizations. Amidst the cultural difference, these groups have one thing in common and that is to promote perennial unity.
Here are some of the organizations with their groups online and their rules and aspirations. iMiND-CNU Psychology Society
for everyone as this will serve as the best medium of communication exchange, amidst our diversity. We’re not asking, but we really need your full and active participation in our organization. The achievements and success of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual. There’s no “I”, “He” or “She”, only “WE”. Only WE can make this happen”. --Neekal Marion, group founder It’s More Fun in CNU “It’s More Fun in CNU serves as a freedom wall for students about the school not only for the positive but also for the negative thoughts students have in mind”. --Princess Gladys Llanos, administrator

Council of Liberal Arts and Sciences Students “The aim of the page is for easy access of information to the CAS students and for them to ask questions freely. Members are only those who belong to the College of Arts and Sciences.” --Johara Kris Veloso, CLASS governor CNU EC Official Group “The group is a source of information for EC activites and updates. The group is open to everyone and there are some CAS students who are members of our group since the college is vast, to the CTE. Its main goal is to provide information, with emphasis on CTE students. Since many of the students are FB addicts, we have maximized FB as a souce of information.” --Juniel Garcia, CTE governor View Point and Nightingale Student Council “Kung ganahan mo mupost ug mga yangungo or anything kay pwede ka muadto sa View Point. Naa man sila’y facebook page, tumblr page, mga forums. Mao to nag sige na siya ug work karon. Mao ra to siya basically. For View Point, basically kay tabloid man kunuhay siya,
mu run out siyag criticisms, constructive or not. Features like arts, photo galleries, mga news and what’s hot regarding CN. Basically, mga activities, inclusive only for CN students sa tanang year level.” --Anonymous Nursing Student Cebu Normal University “The group is open to everyone may it be from the CTE, CAS or CN. Its main goal is to encourage unanimity among normalites.” --Anonymous Normalites never settle for mediocrity. Having social networking sites are viable extensions for their individual group’s advancement. Enthusiasm and perfection in a group is best achieved when there is rectitude and equality between veracity dominating the thresholds of the cyber world and have accelerated into a breakthrough of autonomy and concord. At this moment, each group’s development has engulfed a diverse and wide range of possibilities. Different they may be in perspective and culture, but each group is improving and growing at its core with each individual’s fair share of effort, a prodigious responsibility but empowered by convergence and divergence.

cleaning the toilet and disposing the garbage, the Sanitary a day (note: that’s two more than the regular 8-hour job). Heroes have no time to rest but they’re an exception for they are still humans even though they take the risk of facing those dirt that (accept the fact) we, the mankind who do not know any better, created. Due to their work, their clock chimes in a different pattern. They take their lunch at 10 in the morning. The punctual Heroes, whose work starts as early as 6:30 am, have the edge of taking their lunch at 11:30 in the morning until 1 in the afternoon. Though their lunch schedules differ, other during afternoon break in their not-so-secret lair under the skywalk, every 3:00-3:15 pm. If you’re asking where they got their power-ups and mushrooms, well most of them took their lunch outside the

campus together with the other Superheroes of our school: Electric Boys and Construction Men. Since their battle, each of them are and buildings of the school. They check their places every morning, noon and afternoon, every day. That’s why you can observe that in every comfort room you get into, there’s this Hero you encounter. You can also see them in the Administration Building’s Basement, beside OSA (corner part of the MP Building) and others are just staying in there designated areas even during their free time. When Amelia Boybanting, one of the ILS Sanitary Heroes, was asked about the cleanliness of the Normalites she replied, “Okey raman, di man sad kaayo sila hugawan.” Others may have their own opinion about the everydaystruggles they face. Rocky D. Encabo, a Sanitary Ground Hero of our university, said “Malimpyo man
Patakag labay. Magsalig ba.” In addition, their head janitor, Cirilo Alnedu shared some of his techniques on how to discipline cleanliness violators, “Mangasaba ko. Mupatuo raman sad.” A Sanitary Hero’s duty is to maintain cleanliness and plant the seed of obedience in each Normalite. This battle is not just theirs can be their willing accomplices, their mighty allies. We don’t need to be a Sanitary Hero or a Janitor to help our university maintain its cleanliness. In our own little ways (humans as we are), we can help power-ups, let’s properly dispose our little evils and demons in the trash bins nearest us in a given moment. Citizens, in this battle, we

Ika nga, unity in diversity! Break it down yow! Bongga! Unang taon sa kolehiyo at bruskong-brusko pa, kalaunan naging mahinhin. Yun pala, brusko din ang hanap. Sabi nga nila, life changing university. Bonggang-bongga! Bigla-bigla e naramdaman kong lumakas yung hangin, nabiyak yung lupa at boom! May fairy na lumabas in all of a sudden. “Aray!”

ali-dali akong bumangon at naligo. “Yo, miss, where’s your I.D.? I can’t let you pass,” nobela nya. Dagdag pa nya, “What the hell have you done to your hair?” E uso kaya yung tila Badjao (Nikki Minaj) style. Following the
