PORTFOLIO INDUSTRIAL DESIGN | MOTORSPORT GRAPHICS
ANIKET DAS | 2016
introduction I’m an avid off-road enthusiast who’s passionate about transportation design and off-road racing. I constantly try to merge the above two interests in hopes of finding serenity and the journey continues... I also enjoy working with graphics/liveries, especially the ones to do with motorsport or motorcycles. I love building custom motorcycles & parts with form and function.

There has been a large world oil crisis since 2020. This crisis is gradually resolved by a shift to renewable energy, hybrid/electric vehicles & biofuel.
All the major automotive giants are here and 3D printing is the talk of the town. small stuff is bought online and printed locally or at home.
Motorcycles are highly personalised, bEYOND skin deep. They log the RIDER’s riding style to provide maximum efficiency. AI makes IT a true extention of one’s personality.
the off-road market hasn’t grown much but most of the premium adventure tourers are available and are highly expensive like always. They are perceived as a luxury.
Raid-de-Himalaya is on the verge of becoming a part of the World Cross Country Rally Championship as the number of international participants have grown tremendously!
BigRock Motopark has expanded and has become the best off-road training ground in the country. It has also helped in THE rise of more such motoparks around the country.
4 PHASE MODEL EXPERIENTIAL STRATEGY A new strategy to help those aspirants & enthusiasts live their dream. At the end of it, the motorcycle would be highly personalised and specific for the user, who would use it to it’s maximum potential without any fear. This concept provides a smooth learning curve with a user based package (where investment is in parts) incorporated with a ‘fremium business model’ which could carve the path to creating a new way of owning and racing motorcycles. This would accelerate the growth of this sport in the country and quickly help India get at par with the world in this arena.
PHASE 1
PHASE 3
A MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM TO GROW YOUR XPs. CHarged by the hour, it’s a good place to start getting accustomed to the motorCycle.
NOW THAT YOU HAVE EARNED YOUR WAY FORWARD AND CAN AFFORD THE REST OF THE MOTORCYCLE, YOU’re ready to explore the real world.
PHASE 2
PHASE 4
ONCE you’ve gathered enough XPs THAT TRANSLATE inTO GREAT DISCOUNTS, YOU BRING HOME THE VR KIT AND CONTINUE DEVELOPING YOUR SKILL (mORE XPs).
AS your confidence grows further and you become an adrelanine junkie, It’s time for futher perfomance upgrades and rallies!

THE HUSQY X-SPEC
32
33
FEATURES HEIGHT OF RIDER: 5 FEET 5 INCH
The motorycle is designed for easy dis-assemble, making it a hot favourite amongst the service cRew in a rally. So they can work faster and spend more time on tweaking it for the next stage.
Whether it’s adventure touring or rallying, the BLIND PROOF OLED SCREENS give you the right layout AS PER YOUR REQUIREMENTS to know your way forward.
34
INDIA’s average height makes these motorcycles intimidating. But not anymore. The telescopic cetnre stand & the electromaganetic suspension helps adjust the ride height when required.
This feature also makes the motorcycle independent of the terrain when it needs to stand by itself. Hence, this motorcycle could be parked anywhere without any worry.
The batteries are located at an ideal location for quick access, without dismounting from the motorcycle. This way, they can be repLAced at an energy station in a jiffy!
With the seat removed, one finds a large storage area. The location of this helps concentrating the heavy mass around the motor. THis also reduces the need of extra luggage items like a tank bag.
IT DOESN’T END HERE. CHECK OUT ZEV’s STORY TO KNOW MORE!

INIMIDATING
HE CAN’T AFFORD TO RACE OR GO ON BIG TOURS BUT HIS CAREFULLY CHOSEN PROFESSION HELPS HIM STAY CLOSE TO HIS DREAM. HIS PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITIONS HAVE ALWAYS BEEn SUCCESSFUL!
FINANCIAL REASONS
HE SAVES ENOUGH MONEY TO HARNESS HIS SKILLS CONSTANTLY, ONCE IN 2 WEEKS, AT THE BIGROCK MOTOPARK. He can by no meaNS afford a DIRT BIKE, SO THIS IS HEAVEN FOR HIM. He dreams of getting one someday.
6 months later
HE hears about the HUSQVARNA X-SPEC PROGRAM AND FINDS IT TO BE WORTH A SHOT AS HE GETS TO EXPERIENCE THE MOTORCYCLE AND EARN HIS WAY INTO BUYING ONE LATER.
UNABLE TO AFFORD THE VR KIT AT THE MOMENT, HE SIGNS UP FOR THE MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM AND QUICKLY APPLIES ALL THE SKILL AQUIRED AT THE MOTOPARK TO GAIN MASSIVE XPs!
Soon, he aquires enough discounts that help him get 30-40% of the motorcycle, home. Now he can game at his own schedule and can get closer to HIS DREAM.
6 months later
ON THE WEEKENDS THAT HE’s home, he trains hard on this. His trainers at the motopark are surprised at his improvement! But he is on a mission to gather more discounts for the real deal.
ANd FINALLY he GET’s the adventure kit, home. His nephew serves as his assistant and is AS awestruck AS THE NEIGHBOURHOOD KIDS around, looking at what’s cooking!
Riding in the real world is not a challenge. He feels as if he’s been riding this motorcycle all along! The luggage drone helps carry his panniers when he getS on really challenging routes.
A FEW MONTHS LATER
His nephew has been after him to get on the motorcycle. So, on some weekends, the bike’s all his! His father IS THINKING ABOUT PUTTING HIM INTO THE MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM FOR KIDS.
ZEV IS CONFIDENT TO COMPETE AND HE GOES FOR UPGRADES TO PUSH LIMITS! RIDING THIS MOTORCYCLE OFF-ROAD HAS BECOME like walking. He is about to do what he has captured on his camera!
HE takes a leap by starting with the raid-de-himalaya while his drone does the job of capturing him applying all the skills he HAD aquired! It all pays off with a podium finish on his maiden attempt!

RESEARCH 2
This infographic shows the projected increase or decrease in variables over the period of 18 years at 6 year intervals.
At each 6 year interval, the line weight changes to indicate increase or decrease of that variable.
1
42
This starts by segregating each variable of the city and then quantifying it by the thickness of a given line it represents.
3
And, from this dot-matrix we could tell which variables cause the maximum effect and which gets affected the most.

FACTORS CAUSING EFFECT
FACTORS CAUSING EFFECT
POINT OF INTERVENTION
The dots in this dot matrix were added up horizontally and vertically. From the resulting graph, it was clear which variables caused the most effect and which were affected the most.
From this data we realised the areas which had opportunities for intervention and created a criticality pyramid to decide the final actionable brief.
Fufill the desire for personal transport, especially among the large middle class population such that it works hand-in-hand with the public transport system and helps as a para-transit system.

Taking into consideration that people will be constantly deploying and receiving PAM-Ds at the station, 877* of them for 207 people per hour is more than enough for the system to work.
*877 is actually half the amount of the space calculated. We kept the rest half of the volume for machinery that might be used.

THE CHELUS
AN OFF-ROAD HELMET INSPIRED BY THE MATA MATA TURTLE
THE ANIMAL MATA MATA The mata mata (Chelus fimbriata) is a freshwater turtle found in South America, primarily in the Amazon and Orinoco basins. The creature eats by creating a low-pressure vacuum that sucks the prey into its mouth, known as suction feeding.

BRAND IDENTITY PROFILE SPONSORSHIP PRESENTATIONS WEBSITE LIVERIES
BRAND IDENTITY 2015
OVERVIEW Off-road motorsports being a niche sport in India, atheletes in that sport don’t get much coverage of their achievements and their brand value goes down. The fans don’t have an identity to relate to and show the world who they follow. For CS Santosh to get sponsors for his Dakar attempt and gather a large following, an identity was of priority.
MY AGGRESSIVE ALTER EGO SETS IN WHEN I’M RACING ON MY MOTORCYCLE!
THE BRIEF Santosh is a calm and composed personality who’s very focused and determined. He prefers minimalism than a loud & ‘in-yourface’ approach. He wanted these qualities to be well represented in his logo. Red & black are his favourite colours and he wanted these to dominate in his identity and in his motopark’s. An international version was to be prepared as well with the colours of the Indian flag.

71
BRAND IDENTITY
OVERVIEW India doesn’t have a single motopark that has the right equipment and the right tutors. This was CS Santosh’s way of giving back to the sport. He converted a portion of his farmhouse into a proper track and bought the best bikes that one could learn on Honda CRF230Fs.
THE BRIEF As mentioned earlier, Santosh wanted his brand colours to be used here as well. This motopark was about to set a benchmark in the country and it had to have a strong idenity, become a coveted destination and represent the attributes of off-roading appropriately. The adverts on social media had to portray the lifestyle that this motopark represented for the sport to grow in the country.
72
73
PROFILE
OVERVIEW Having achieved what no one else did in the country, there was a lot to talk about and get corporates interested. This was to be his brief biography that focused on achievements, in an highly engaging manner.
THE BRIEF Since a majority of the population in this country is new to the sport, a quick introduction to rallying was necessary for his achievements to have value. A section of his fan following and his media value were to be expressively shown for it to not be a ‘text heavy’ presentation. It should make sense to non-marketing professionals as well. To view the profile, click on the image above.
74
SPONSORSHIP PRESENTATION
PRE-DAKAR 2015 As he prepared himself for his debut at the 2015 Dakar Rally, he needed an extention of his profile that talks about the advantages of sponsoring him to do the Dakar. This was available in print and on the web. This helped him gather a few investors and he succeeded in finishing in the Top 40, the same year. Click on the image to view this publication.
75
POST-DAKAR 2015 Having created history by being the first Indian to participate and complete the Dakar Rally, the future looked promising for him and the sport. His profile again had to be worked upon to show his future plans and sponsorship packages for the same.
76
MAJOR SPONSOR MINOR SPONSOR ASSOCIATE SPONSOR CO-SPONSOR 1 CO-SPONSOR 2
After a visual research on brand positioning of top athletes in the sport, a set of sponsorship packages were chalked out to help the potential sponsor understand how his/her brand would be seen.
77
SAMPLE LIVERIES Every sponsorship presentation included an accurate artist’s impression of what the motorcycle or the riding gear would look like for the proposed package.
78
79
WEBSITE
OVERVIEW To have a stronger web presence, a website that spoke the same language was mandatory. This was to be the ideal destination to know everything about him. There were hardly any dedicated and informative websites for any such athlete in the country.
80
THE BRIEF The website had to have a great narrative to tell the story without losing the audience’s attention. It would have the most amount of detail but in a very visual manner. It had to inspire people. BigRock Motopark was to be a part of this as well where equiries/bookings would happen.
Click on any picture to visit the website.
81
LIVERIES RALLY SUIT With the sponsors gained for his 2016 Dakar Rally, a potential rally suit was presented that portrayed his personality well - minimalism.
82
SUZUKI RMX 450 RALLY A similar language was proposed for his motorcycle as well, keeping in mind the brand colours related to the manufacturer. The rally suit and the motorcycle were to exist cohesively. Team Suzuki Rally, Spain used this as their base and made edits as per their reqirement.
83
LIVERIES PRESS CONFERENCE T-SHIRT Santosh would be seen in these t-shirts when he’s not in his rally suit and is in front of the camera.

2016 inteRNATIONAL RALLY HELMET With the 2016 Dakar Rally done, there were new sponsors on board and he had been selected to be a factory racer for Hero Motosport. Now with his rally suit and motorcycle liveries being dictated by the company, his only true representation was through his helmet. With him being the only Indian in the scene, and he being an ardent follower of Indian Mythology, some influence of this had to be portrayed well on his helmet. He chose Arjuna as an appropriate character. Nishlesh, an animator, helped in illustrating it in a way that it blends well with the graphics that surrounded it. Motomiu helped in making this accurately with constant reviews for every step of the process.
