Overview The Center for Transnational Law and Business (CTLB) at the USC Gould School of Law promotes world-class policy analysis, research and educational opportunities in international business, law and policy. CTLB serves USC, the broader community of Southern California, the nation and the world. Global business is regulated by numerous and varied legal regimes in an increasingly complex and chaotic patchwork of rules and practices. This raises critical questions about how to improve the regulation of international business activity. Debate continues about what can and should be demanded of businesses that pursue global marketplace opportunities and cross domestic borders. While the economic stakes are high, first-rate scholarship in this arena is sparse. CTLB provides a scholarly home for this debate and the development of practical solutions. With a focus on critical problems and challenges in transnational business, the center facilitates expanded interdisciplinary collaboration, teaching and research. The center also brings together leading academics, practitioners and policymakers from across the country and around the world. The center's activities include the production of scholarly research and policy proposals on transnational business law issues and the convening of government officials, lawyers, and business people for conversation and debate. CTLB will also train a new generation of domestic and foreign attorneys and policymakers for leadership in global law and business. The center is home to established and rising scholars and experts, including Andrew Guzman, dean of USC Gould and a nationally renowned international law scholar; Brian Peck, director of the center and former deputy director of international affairs and business development for the State of California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development and former senior director at the Office of the United States Trade Representative; affiliated faculty from USC Gould and other USC schools; research fellows; and an advisory council that includes academics, lawyers, business people, government officials and key sponsors. As one of the country’s leading law schools, USC Gould is the ideal home for the Center for Transnational Law and Business. The school is perfectly positioned to convene exceptional leaders, scholars and stakeholders, instigate meaningful dialogue, and contribute practical, lasting solutions to the complex issues facing today’s global businesses and their leaders.
