VISION
Success Story Mumtaz Bibi, a widow of 35 years, lives in a remote area of Pakistan. After her husband’s death, it was proving difficult for her to meet the expenses of her family. In this challenging situation no one was there to help her. HHRD’s Esaar Microfinance-Interest Free Program assisted her by providing a male calf worth Rs. 15,000* through the mode of Islamic Financing of Mudaraba. On the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha when the calf was sold, 80 percent of the profit from the sale which amounted to Rs. 32,000 was given to Mumtaz Bibi. She now has one calf, three goats and a cow that she milks to sell that milk in the market. Through the Esaar Program, and her own efforts, she is now living a very prosperous and happy life with her family. *($1 = Rupees 98.75 as of May 15, 2014)

Economic Empowerment is about lifting vulnerable communities out of poverty and helping its people achieve socio-economic empowerment within their societies. Income generation should lead to livelihood sustainability. Economic opportunity is not enough, but economic empowerment is our goal. It includes all the aspects that are directly, or indirectly, related to a person's life. Natural disasters, such as earthquakes and floods, are the main obstacles in sustainability of livelihood and minimize the source of income.
