slowly decreased to next to nothing. Huge areas are flooded, there are tropical storms multiple times a year.

All because of climate change effects ravaging the

planet.

Multiple deserts and wastelands spread, making resource sparse and liveable spaces tight.

None of our senior citizens did anything to prevent this!

Let them solve our “Limited space on Earth”-problem! No-one wants to care for them anyway. And it’s not like they contribute to the work-force.

Damn straight! Earth is running out of time, and the pruny old farts should be kicked out to make space for the rest of humanity.

Sending an entire demographic into space could be considered a heartless thing to do.

They also have to be convinced to go somehow.

on wheels does not get Yi any closer to the really cool stuff.

To get arms, Yi has hacked a B.A.R.G.E. robot, and baptised it ‘Bobbert’.

As long as Bobbert is attached to Yi’s chair, nothing is out of bounds.

The only negative side-effect is Bobbert’s annoying insistance on helping with everything. It sort of defeats the purpose of enabling yourself with giant robot arms.

Desmond uses litteracy, retorical provess, and other fancy words to wow the other B.A.G.S. The ones who fall for his academic charms and wildly imaginative arguments follow him blindly.

Like Desmond, his followers fully believe that Earth could just as well be destroyed. They eventually form a cult within the ‘Destroyers’ Faction.

To avoid suspicion, he uses the goons in his cult to execute his outrageous attempts to sabotage The B.A.R.G.E.™ and destroy Earth.

But his goons are never as brilliant as him, and they always manage to mess up even the simplest missions in profound and hilarious ways!

As a former avid sportsman, Klaus keeps himself - and poor Elvan - busy by wandering the halls (and outer walls) of The B.A.R.G.E.™.

Occasionally Klaus’s gray eyes clear up to their blue selves, and he cryptically delivers the last word to solve the crossword puzzle.

This usually happens in moments of dire need - a convenient Deus Ex Machina.

The others are still unsure whether or not it this is sheer luck, or if something more mystical is going on...

brought from Earth to the B.A.R.G.E.™, Klaus lost most of the things that keep him in the present.

Now he is stuck in senile

As the son - the gay son, that is - of Turkish immigrants in Germany - parents who ran the local döner kebab kiosk, that is - he has faced and lived down the broadside of stereotyping.

e can all agree that grannies in jet-packs building Lego-cyborg suits out of the scraps from a hi-tech retirement space station is a cool concept.

But without a wide variety of elements to generate different sets of conflicts, any show will run out of steam at some point.

Luckily, B.A.G.S. can offer the best of two worlds: 1) The setting is a confined space, where a lot of people - all set in their ways - have to get along.

2) The entirety of unexplored space is at our disposal! So let’s see what it hides!

FACTIONS: THE POLITICS OF SHARING THE REMOTE A large part of the B.A.G.S. universe is the life

on board The B.A.R.G.E.™ and the relationships between the B.A.G.S. The conflicts that are not trivial questions like “who stole whose teeth?” have to do with Earth and Space.

Some are excited about the prospects of space discovery, or at least too stubborn to ever want to return.

Why Animation?

With intention to keep B.A.G.S. a wacky comedy sci-fi epos,

its universe lends itself well to the medium of animation: There will be action, most storylines will be in space, featuring ridiculous tech and a just as ridiculously old cast - It needs the visual freedom of animation.

Heading for animation also allows a looser approach to physics. Imagine wrinkles, saggy bodies, and slow shuffling surrounded by explosions and aliens - at zero gravity!

There is hardly another medium that could exploit the comedy potential in the setting as well as animation.

Not just that: it is also within the expanding field of animated

TV-series where the most absurd and fringe comedies make it into the pop-culture mainstream.

Other shows such as FOX’s Futurama and Adult-Swim’s

Rick and Morty, are examples of how similar genres gained a cult following in animation.

Topping it off, Netflix also launched Final Space, that have yet to prove itself as a serious competitor.

Let’s take a look at how that could begin!

With the life-sustaining internet-nectar gone, Henrietta is forced to cooperate with the pruny and dusty crowd.

She gathers a team: Yi, Bobbert, and Desmond, who all wish to get in touch with Earth - each for their own reasons.

They hatch a cunning and deceptively simply plan:

Desmond fakes a senile tantrum, and begins tearing out of sockets at random.

Henrietta and Yi are ‘impressed’ by Desmond’s performance as a crazed lunatic, and the robot guards quickly flock towards him.

Meanwhile, Henrietta and Yi sneak into the control-room.

Everything goes according to plan: Yi hacks their way into the mainframe.

But the crew discover a dark secret: The B.A.R.G.E.™ is being sent directly into the sun!

Frantically, the two reprogram the ship to return to Earth.

But this does not sit well with the World Government. The sudden change of course is considered a mature mutiny, and an army of drones are sent to deal with the rebellious retirees.

The seniors are caught off guard. No matter how bravely they fight, it remains a losing battle. Henrietta breaks down, realizing that she will never connect to Earth again...

Until hope presents itself to our hero: Elvan comforts a distressed Klaus, and reminds him of all their adventures.

Henrietta looks around , and sees that this dusty old crowd is more spirited than she gave them credit for. Inspired, she uses the intercom to broadcast a message: “We are old BAGS - Bad-ass Grannies in Space! And a world of adventure awaits!”

Rallied by her call, they all turn The B.A.R.G.E™ towards the unknown and blasts into outer space at close to light speed, leaving the drones in a ‘BYE’-shaped cloud of smoke.

PILOT EPISODE FULL SYNOPSIS The senior citizens of the world are being exiled on a space station as Finally! Connection! Henrietta checks her follower count: Stable. Thank the scapegoats for global warming. ASTRID is watching over them, along with an army of care-taking robots. Henrietta, a socialite food/travel-blogger is having a hard time getting used to her new life in space, being surrounded by other old people, and worst of all the unstable WiFi. To pass time, she interviews the others:

Yi and Bobbert, a retired engineer prodigy and their modified care-taking

robot. Both worried sick about Yi’s great grand niece back on Earth. The Alzheimer’s- and lovestruck couple Klaus and Elvan. Elvan is desperately trying to keep Klaus out of harm’s way, and Desmond, a grumpy retired environmental researcher with a gentleman’s appearance, who is loudly declaring his disagreement with the whole situation.

Lord. But Yi is overwhelmed by concern for her niece - and tries to access ASTRID’s trajectory controls. They discover see Earth Government intends to send them into the sun within 2 weeks!

Frantically, they use their access to The B.A.R.G.E.™ to turn around. But then, All Hell breaks loose:

Through their interception, Earth Government has become aware of the

space mutiny. And, seeing it as an act of hostility, Judith orders Battle Drones to annihilate The B.A.R.G.E.™ immediately.

Desmond acts as distraction by frantically tearing wires. Klaus sees him, and

exoskeleton-suits. Etc. But the fight is unequal, the B.A.G.S. Are fighting bravely, but hopelessly outnumbered and unprepared. Klaus and Elvan are separated. Desmond is hit and loses his arm. Yi and Bobbert rush to aid him with a makeshift robotic prosthetic arm. Henrietta is paralyzed, and all alone.

She falls to the floor, guilt stricken - grenade shock style.

Henrietta looks at her MyRing, wallowing in her own misery, while scrolling

down a news-feed framing the seniors as violent terrorists. Her follower count drops continuously.

She turns it off - only to see Elvan and Klaus reunite. Klaus is frightened, and wants to go home. Elvan tries to comfort him: “But honey, remember our wedding vows “Home is where our next adventure leads us!”” Klaus clears up, reliving the memory: “And here’s to a future of adventures!”

Henrietta realizes, that the future DOES hold adventures!

She pulls herself together and uses the mainframe and her skills as an enter-

tainer to send a message to everyone on board: “Listen! Damn straight we are old BAGS! B-A-G-S: Bad-Ass Grannies in Space! And we have a future! If we stay and fight, it will an extremely short one! But space and a retirement of adventure is waiting!”

Elvan nods at her in appreciation.

Henrietta asks Yi to change the station trajectory. Desmond is furious, he wants revenge on Earth more than anything. They figure out, that they do have access to the fuel supply of The B.A.R.G.E.™ But also that the thrusters themselves are stuck.

Yi ‘tells’ ASTRID to redirect all fuel to the Earth-side of the station. The others work together, led by Henrietta’s broadcasted voice, to manually turn the thrusters.

The episode ends with The B.A.R.G.E.™ blasting light-years into outer space - like the Millennium Falcon escaping the exploding Death Star - leaving a “BYE”-shaped explosion, and confused droids behind.

Klaus and a team of other senile inhabitants comes to the rescue. As they get closer to rescuing The B.A.R.G.E.™ - and victory seems certain - the rescue team forget what they were supposed to do and begin meandering.

This repeats itself ‘Groundhog Day’-style until it gets serious: The fog begins to move B.A.G.S. of the ship.

Only the most senile of the B.A.G.S. are safe: Without Klaus’s team try to focus, but their increased memory short term memories, the fog cannot detect them. activity also makes the fog aware of their presence.

First of all, B.A.G.S. deals with timeless existential questions such as: “Can I be labeled redundant?” “What s the legacy we are leaving behind? “ And of course questions the relation between generations.

B.A.G.S. is tried and true - but also something new! A mix of classic sci-fi tropes from the space age and a cast of old seniors with technology from today.

Here are some questions and answers trying to link B.A.G.S. to a current media-reality.

The podcast version of B.A.G.S. is a way for the

franchise to dive into the characters we don’t get to experience as much on-screen.

‘B.A.G.S. - the podcast’ is a series of interviews,

where inhabitants on board The B.A.R.G.E.™ share their memories to the interviewer.

Through the interview, the listener will get everything from traditional knitting and food recipes from around the world to old-school ways of recycling.

All these are activities for the listener - projects you

could do at home. These projects will call for working together with others, and the podcast should inspire people to make them with their own grandparents.

It is envisioned to consist of 45-60 minute episodes of comedy. Each episode will have a rough outline, and a piece of knowledge for the listener. But the rest is up to the voice actors.

Of course, the star of our show is going to feature in (read: take over) an episode...

B.A.R.G.E™-MANAGER - a spaceretirement sim A 4X strategy/Tycoon game where you are the ASTRID of your very own B.A.R.G.E.™ and have to make sure your designated B.A.G.S. are kept alive and preferably happy for as long as possible.

By keeping track of ressources such as food, air, medicine, and entertainment, the player will get a sense of what it takes to manage a retirement home in a sustainable way (in space).

In extension you will face real-time battles with Aliens, and be able to trade ressources and form unions with other players online.

OUR B.A.R.G.E.™ SCRAPBOOK An app to be filled with photographic memories with an older relative. Apart from having the scrapbook itself, the App will generate a B.A.G.S.-themed version using photo-reckognition and AR technology. (Example: You take a photo of you grandpa Joe holding up a fish he caught - The app then creates a version of Joe in B.A.G.S. battle-suit holding up a blasted tentacle.)
