WELC
When the expanded festival returned in 2012 – we knew we had to raise our game, to pay back not only the imaginative and hard working team behind the festival, but also the inquisitive, warm-hearted audiences that had attended. We could only dream, however, that in 2013 we’d be rapidly approaching our third Indian Summer – which thanks to the incredible support of so many of you, is the most ambitious, the biggest and the best we have ever put on. So, prepare yourselves for five amazing days of art, film, dance, theatre and much more inspired by India and its people, at home and abroad. With more partners, more events and, most of all, more fun, we’ll be taking over Leicester’s Cultural Quarter and we want you to be a part of it. Āp kā swāgat hai!

We think a university should be about
empowering people to explore what they don’t know through passionate, dedicated teaching and innovative, world-changing research.
By embracing the fact that we’re all coming at it from a slightly different place, and that every journey is personal, we’ve managed to achieve some remarkable results in our time. We believe that the best universities are not just the privilege of elites. We’re proof that you can stand alongside the best and open up the competition for everyone. We are the only university to win six consecutive Times Higher Awards. The Times Higher Education applauded our very different approach, describing us as “elite without being elitist”. We’re the only top twenty university to meet Government benchmarks for the recruitment of students from state education and socio-economic disadvantage. Our ground-breaking researchers unearthed the remains of Richard III, invented DNA finger printing and scanned the surface of Mars. We’re also an integral part of the local community. We contribute £729 million to the national economy with much of that impact being felt here in Leicester. We work closely with local partners such as schools and charities to ensure that all residents have the opportunity to feel benefits of our facilities and activities. We also support the efforts of our many staff and students who volunteer locally. It’s our commitment to the city of Leicester as well as our passion for discovery and diversity that makes us proud to support An Indian Summer. This festival helps residents discover more about India while also celebrating the diversity of our vibrant city.
