“Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness. ” ~Frank Gehry

ANIRBAN GUPTA Undergraduate Architecture Student

A creative & skilled Architecture Student with a lot of ideas unexplored. A firm believer in research & analysis is the most important preliminary step of the design. Proficient in various software, 3D & 2D, to precisely portray the idea & thought-process of that idea.

Architecture means the integration of art and habitation. The form a structure takes, has to have a thorough thought process and a story to justify the aesthetic choices.

I visualise design with this aspect in mind, and make it manifest through my skills in 2D & 3D modelling software’s. Sketching, good communication, presentation, problem solving abilities and decision making are a few of the set of skills that I carry. I would describe myself as someone who is able to lead but does not want the lime light, rather wants the team to succeed as a whole. I have a clear set of values that are governed by ethics, and work processes which I don't let anyone effect, but at the same time I am adaptable and flexible enough to overcome any barrier in order to make me compatible with others and make the team work.

01 Eco EchelonEcological Machine Hybrid Use Building

This is a Collaborative effort of two undergraduate Students, Anirban Gupta & Anusha Das Gupta. The Structure has large terraces big open spaces, plenty of gathering spaces and also areas for recreational spaces with the entire complex being accessible from multiple points. It has a parametric form derived my the combination of the Marine-Sponge and Beehive and the programmatic and spatial arrangement has been made according to the basic fundamental rights of a citizen of India. It also takes note from the history of the city of Gurugram for its culture and looks on how to implement in the present and how to maintain it in the future, open central courtyards, gardens, adjacent balconies are some of the Visible features. All in all Eco-Echelon presents a solution for the Environmental crisis in India and gives a solution to retain Gurugram's lost identity in a modern way.

SITE PLAN

Eco-Echelon is a Hybrid Building project situated in Golf Course Road, Gurugram near Park Drive Road. It has essence of a lot of different programs and functions, but majorly a hybrid of Ecologically rich and Democratically acceptable spaces.

ECOLOGICAL INTEGRATION

The structure reduces the carbon & CFC emission controlling the wind flowing in order to channel the air through the gaps during summers and trapping the heat during winters avoiding the use of artificial ventilation. The hexagonal spaces transfer heat absorbed by the material on all directions equally creating a cool environment, the outer enveloped skin provides additional structural support and thermal insulation & the outer skin uses kinetic energy to respond to wind forces, i.e., If the forces are strong the gaps will close to reduce wind load on the overall structure

Smog-Eating Façades The treatment is a thin layer of titanium dioxide (TiO2), a powder or liquid that can be applied to glass, concrete, metal, or fabric; when sunlight hits the chemically treated surface, a process begins that oxidizes organic matter, turning pollutants into water vapor and CO2. The tiles are designed for absolute material efficiency, exposing more surface area to daylight to activate the pollution-fighting technology.

0 3 F l u id C i t y – Urban Design Studio Integrated Township

This is a Collaborative effort of three undergraduate Students, Anirban Gupta, Anusha Das Gupta & Shubham Singh. The integrated township was based in Dwarka, next to the upcoming Dwarka Expressway, hence, the focus while developing it was around mobility. The mobility was on three tiers, Vehicular, Cyclist, Pedestrian. Majorly pedestrian was taken care of. The Pedestrian and cyclist friendly circulation was done in a way that they would integrate multiple public plazas & spaces, making them integrated as a cohesive design instead of separate islands. Zoning was done strategically to achieve the same, and create functions to support the integrated township.

SITE FEATURES

AIM : To establish an integrated township development and sustain a secure, effective, and environmentally sustainable mobility and transportation network that is integrated, multimodal, and promotes pedestrianfriendly urbanized land use patterns which are less reliant on private vehicles. OBJECTIVES : • Encourage the use of alternate modes of mobility including walking, bicycling and public transportation by all sectors of the population to reduce the dependency upon private automobile use. • Alter conventional street standards especially in mixed use and planned residential developments by encouraging New Urbanistic layouts of interconnected grid streets. • Employ access management and consider use of roundabouts to provide for traffic calming and improved safety. • Support the resumption of rail passenger service. • Increase safety on thoroughfare streets and bike and pedestrian trails where they cross railroad tracks and consider grade- separated crossings.

SITE SELECTION • •

Encourage the growth and sustainability of the urbanized area of the City by providing adequate and convenient parking and a comprehensive system of sidewalks and walking paths. Employ a hierarchy of functional street categories including thoroughfare streets for major traffic movements through and within the community at higher speeds; collector streets to channel major traffic movements into and out of separate areas of the community at moderate speeds; and, local streets to provide access to individual properties at lower speeds.

SITE PLAN AND SITE FEATURES

PLANS AND SECTIONS

• The 25 acres micro site consists of the main institutional Zone. • The buildings are public library, transportation & mobility museum, hospital, police station, fire station some retail and recreation centres & The Institute of Transportation and mobility. • It has bus stops, connecting it to every zone directly through public transport which is uninterrupted. • This 25 acre area acts as the central circulation zone for our entire 182 acre site

PROPOSED SITE FEATURES

• The open green spaces are interconnected by pedestrian walkways making the walkable journey for the pedestrians and cyclists preferable, • This intern encourages them to use less motorised vehicles and walk or bike more catering to our sustainable goals.

• The widths of the motorised vehicles vary b/w 15m,20m & 40m. • 40 m is the central spine and an outer periphery road connecting major zones i.e. transit hub, retail, residential • it has one constant flow without many stoppages of traffic as there are no cross-sections but only T junctions • The bus routes are also present in the major spine and other periphery road•40m roads are the major arterial roads, 20m roads are the collector streets & 15m are internal

• •

In the proposed urban transit village we speculate that the huge difference between the common and the floating population will reduce to 10% as more migrant workers will be approaching this site for better job opportunities provided by the programs decided. Due to gain in commercial zones no. of workers will be more. There will be rise in the no. of workers and the patriarchal difference will also start diminishing in the working sector.

Since we are proposing an, urban setting, it will be an opportunity for the private groups and the govt to built institutions, residential projects, hospitals and commercial centers making it an urban center with the amalgamation of the existing villages. Therefore, we speculate the population to grow rapidly and increase twice in no. than the existing.

MATERIAL STUDY

Three materials were chosen to begin with.

In all the models it has been experimented with different privacy levels for achieving in and out.

These levels are not only perceived vertically but also horizontally.

Different sizes of windows/ openings let in different amount of light.

The smaller the windows, more feeling of privacy, resulting in, higher inwardness.

Higher the exposure to external elements, more feeling of outwardness.

The materials were, timber, stone & R.C.C.

Different iterations were made with different materials to figure out the best quality of in and out for the selected material.

Combining stone with timber is an old technique in Bhutan, with which muck exploration can’t be done.

R.C.C. Is the most flexible material, for creating different layers of in and out spaces.

CONTEXT STUDY

• In some models certain elements are protruding out and to the same distance from the main interface, but because of the difference in the vertical level(height) the privacy level of both these elements differ. • The model on the right has evolved into my final design. • It supports all the previously mentioned points, and helps in achieving a special form for my design.

• All the different materials and iterations were then used to make a typical Bhutanese street. • The different levels of interactions showcased the different potential for each different material. • The street characteristic was used to develop the final design street layout, especially the level differences were emphasized upon.

SITE PLAN

• Since religion is an integral part in current architecture, it will remain the same • For the future as well, just will be interpreted in a different way. • Using pattern flowed in religious symbol to create different levels of in and out in my forms. • The hostel building is the tallest as it is the furthest from the cues, to maintain some form of visual connect at all time. • The entertainment buildings are on either side of the open amphi, for giving the amphi some closure at all times. • Trees & small artificial ponds surround the site to give it a boundary instead of a boundary wall the central courtyard has a tree in the dead center for becoming a node that divides the site into different parts, sitting around the tree will always have a different visual impact on the user.

06 Miscellaneous Dissertation Impact of architectural design on human health Ai m Finding a way to incorporate health-oriented elements in architecture for the betterment of the current and future generation, to facilitate the betterment of society’s health and living standards.

Increase the possible spaces to enjoy and make it more dynamic to entice different users at different times;

Argument The human health is a issue that is mostly ignored in many major field until recently. When we talk of architecture, the factor of health is rarely if ever considered as a lens to develop design. I feel architecture till now has only developed all designs to morph into the existing urban fabric. Human element is ignore extensively

Abstract This study is based on architecture and health. It aims at deriving methods to integrate the two as the new world is beginning to become more and more health conscious. To keep architecture up to pace it is a necessity that designers and planners include health as one of the derivatives for whatever they create. Along with this, architecture is one of the best ways to contribute towards society’s health. Mental health, physical health and social health are the three major components of health around which this study will be conducted. Existing design strategies regarding these health components are considered and elaborated upon, along with which there is an attempt to comprehend new strategies that might be able ton integrate heath and architecture. There are a lot of other well acknowledged articles, books, blogs, etc. that have been considered for this study and surveys have been conducted to understand the general public’s perception on the impact Architectural design can have on health. All this combined give us an overall status of Heath oriented Architecture.

Same Materials can be used to create some Aesthetically unique

Key Words, Terminologies Salutogenesis, Pathogenesis, Social Well Being, Circadian Rhythm, Dynamic Design, Interactive Architecture, Human Well Being, Public Realm, Evidence-Based Landscape Architecture (Ebla) ,

Adding elements to increase the Light and shadow variations throughout the day;

Scope & limitation From what we know till now, the gap between architectural derivation and health being involved in the derivation is huge. My main motive is to fill that gap and have a new lens in future architectural design ideas. This will allow us as architects/ aspiring architects to increase the depth of justification in our ideas and making heath and primary aspect of this field.

Observation & Conclusion Same space can be made usable to a higher extent for the people using the neighboring function

The user currently does not even demand health in architecture unless informed that it is a possibility. Awareness of this new practice need to spread fast among users. This will lead to the better living standards in society in term of quality of habitable spaces. Live, work and play can be three large headers out of which health specific subjects can be derived individually, and different designers with different interests can focus on one thing but work together later to achieve a cohesive mass of the three that will form a public realm beneficial for the current and future generation

Methods/ Presented Solutions to Improve Architectural Quality of a space:As one can see the models are of existing spaces, but elements have been, added, subtracted, or altered with to enhance the quality of the space. This showcases how much potential a space has that is never explored. This also shows once something is designed & even after it is constructed, it is not the end of Design. All the elements added in the model can be added in real life too.
