Project Abstract The Tenth Sultanette of Jogyajakarta has strong influence in controlling pressure of rapid development of Kota Gede. The development guides the city development towards creating a ‘healthy city and healthy image’ in supporting the sustainabe city of the Middle Jawa. The urban sprawl in all direction has created a low and medium rise of city skylines where it is perceived as more favoured than highrise skyline. As a result of the control, the new theme of public space with strange local chracter for indoor shopping, outdoor recreation and amenity with high connectivity within the commercial and cultural landscape setting, the site is identified as prior actions towards Kota Gede’s future development. Kota Gede is the city and capital for Jogyakarta privileged territories in Java, Indonesia. It is renowned as a center of education, classical Javanese fine arts centre and culture.

PROJECT STATEMENT

THE PROPOSAL CULINARY ARTS INSTITUTE WILL PROMOTE EXPERIENCE LIFE IN A MULTI CULTURAL SOCIETY WHERE MALAYSIANS OF DIFFERENT RACES, RELIGION LIVE IN HARMONY AND ACCEPTANCE WITH EACH OTHER. THIS DIVERSITY ALSO MAKES MALAYSIA A MELTING POT OF CULINARY HERITAGES. THE DISTINCTIVENESS OF MALAYSIA FOOD HAS GIVEN OPPORTUNITY FOR MALAYSIA TO BECOME A CULINARY TOURISM AND KNOWN FOR ITS RICHNESS IN FOOD. COOKING ITSELF IS KNOWN AS AN ART. PEOPLE INVOLVED IN COOKING INDIRECTLY POSITIONS HIMSELF IN PERFORMING ARTS. CHEF COOK WHILE PERFORMING/DEMONSTRATING IN VARIOUS COOKING SHOWS. REALITY COOKING SHOWS ARE BECOMING POPULAR IN THE MEDIA. TO NAME A FEW, PROGRAMS SUCH AS MASTERCHEF, IRON CHEF, HELL’S KITCHEN SLOWLY ATTRACTS PEOPLE TO INDIRECTLY INVOLVED IN THE CULINARY INDUSTRY. THIS CULINARY INSTITUTE WILL ALLOW STUDENTS/PEOPLE TO EXPERIENCE PERFORMING CULINARY ARTS THROUGH MEETING REQUIREMENTSAND ACHIEVE THE CONCEPT WHICH WILL BE PROVIDED FOR A COMFORTABLE AND CONDUCIVE LEARNING AND LIVING ENVIRONMENT IN THE SELF-CONTAINED TOWNSHIP.


THESIS STATEMENT

AS AN ARCHITECTURE FORM, THE KITCHEN REFLECTS SOCIAL STRUCTURES AND CULTURAL REVOLUTIONS. IT IS A PROCESS OF CHANGE. COOKING IS NO LONGER A DAILY-PRACTICED CRAFT BUT RATHER AN ART OF FORM THAT IS BECOMING RARER. THIS TREND IS IDENTIFIED IN SEVERAL REALITY COOKING SHOWS, WHERE THEY SHARE THEIR CULTURE AND HISTORY BACKGROUD THROUGH COOKING. A MasterChef kitchen is proposed in the first floor of the herit ISSUES ARE THAT THERE IS NO PROPER PLATFORM FOR CHEFS TO BECOME CELEBRITY CHEFS , UNLESS ENTERING REALITY COOKING SHOWS. THEREFORE OPPORTUNITIES TO ESTABLIGH A HYBRID SPACE TO GENERATE SUCH PROGRAMS ARE REQUIRED.

THIS THESIS WILL TRY TO PROVE THE IDEA OF PERFORMING CULINARY ARTS CAN BE THE CATALYST IDEA TO PROMOTE THIS HYBRID SPACE AND PRODUCING RENOWNED CELEBRITY CHEFS IN FUTURE.

This ‘Yolk’ arena offers an iron chef performance. Students will be challenged in teams both measuring culinary skills and cooking under pressure.

Training kitchens are transparent and can be viewed by public along the corridor. This similates the performing stage, letting the students feel like they are on stage and being watched.
