“The consistent exploration between the old and new”
The development of Karama, a neighbourhood popular for its accomodating community lifestyle has adapted over the years in terms of construction within karama. However these developments aim to improve and advance the livelihood of both the active and passive users. The UAE government decided to explore more on what karama “Old Dubai” can be, while still maintaining the existing culture of the district. The site of 1200 SQM is centered in the middle of this evolution and in relation to the 2040 sustainability goals, a community park design is explored. The main consideration during the design process is to grow the lifestyke of the people so to create a a new landmark identity based on the day to day experience rather than the timeline of Karama. The Park design is an aiding factor in this evolution as this portfolio cover the interaction between people, buildings and natural environment.
Collage Iterations
Artistic expression of Site analysis observed on site. In the course of site visit, the nature or lifestyle of the people who live in karama was directly experienced.
One may conclude, in line with the illustrative collages, that the people of Karama are in constant interaction with each other, the interactions led to growing communities which futher enhanced the constant communication within the site district.
Another observation is that the people who live in Karama are very observant and sensitive to change as captured with the speech bubbles.
These collages informed th edesign as the major aim was to create spaces for conversations, keeping in mind the sensitivity of the people.

OBSERVATION
LEGEND
Sheikh Zayed Highway
Metro Track
Metro Station Parks
Pedestrian/ Cyclist route
The Major sheikh Zayeed Highway divides Dubai into old and new Dubai. Karama is located in old Dubai and surrounded by several Landmarks which enhance the quality of the site. The 3 major modes of transportation are by metro, car and bicycle. An observation of increasing use of bicycles is observed as there are to main bicycle shops with the distric area.
Midday Traffic on weekdays- relative time of 12-5pm
-Observation of increasing traffic within district as the red lines show high traffic and green lines show free flow of traffic.
Midday Traffic on weekends- relative time of 12-5pm
Observation Of relative traffic on weekdays. it can be observed that Karama experiences consistent flow of movement.
INFERENCE
Questioning the cause of Traffic within karama and understanding the relationship between masses and void spaces.
New Dubai-High Rise Buildings Dubai FrameMass and Function Diagram
Observation shows the cause of high traffic is directly related to the high number of massses used for restuarants and multi-use units. In conclusion, The 2 main user groups are those who live in Karama and those who come to Karama for Leisured use.
Fog Accumulation
Karama attains high level of fog accumulation due to neighbouring water body, Creek.
Unhealthy Air
-Co2 Emission due to high traffic into karama.
Karama has the highest level of unhealthy air in the around its district.
Humidity
Karama has sufficient air pressure to aid water collection to retain humidity from the air.

Trials, Successes and Failures
Zoning attempt 1
Focusing majorly on the existing natural life around the site and attempting to grow that green space. observing prevailing winds in relation to vegetative space.
Massing and Zoning attempt
Focusing on assumed circulation route to split the mass and aid circulation Failed attempt due to no ground bases on circulation route.
Zoning Attempt 2
Focusing on the existing circulation in an attempt to enhance circulation quality with vegetative quality.
Placing Car ramps based on existing road circulation.
Massing and Zoning attempt 2 Ramp replacement and spatial zoning observation no proper analysis on vegetative placement.
Succesful attempt at spatial zoning .
Landscape Design and analysis
Landscape +Building
An attempt to redesign closely packed together buildings
Landscape+Conversation
Proposed Design for space to prompt direct interaction with people based on seating placements and inviting vegetation.
landscape+Coversation
Analysisng the potential conversation started based on interaction with nature or vegetation.
Landscape +Building 2
Analysisng direct user expereince with building in relation to indirect experience to nature.
Massing Iteration
STEP 1
Identifying the constant circulation admist all times of the day considered in sun + circulation diagrams
STEP 2
Dividing the mass to aid free flow of circulation between masses
STEP 3
Dividing the massto 3 forms to create 2 circulation routes with different use experiences and allow free flow of existing circulation.
STEP 4
Creating and identifying the different circulation to ehance experience.
STEP 5
Sustainability approach to allow cross ventilation of west wind snf furthwer mass split to allow for green courtyard spaces
STEP 7
Identifying and placement of vegetation based on west wind and sun direction to enhance shading.
ACTIVE ZONE A
Proposed design for Children activity area in children library zone.
ACTIVE ZONE B
proposed design and materiality consideration for Loungge and cafe space. Exploring Spatial arrangement and design to enhance spaces for conversations.
