To Professors, Professionals, Researches: We are looking to integrate the latest cutting edge energy research with the enegy plant being an ideal testing ground.
To Fellow Students : We are looking for people and potential ideas so join us in making the new Energy plant for your campus.

ENERGY
PLANT
ENERGY PLANT 2.0 The ever growing thirst for energy is only going to escalate as world population continues to increase and we introduce yet another appliance to our cabinet. The fact that we cannot continue to completely rely on fossil fuels is clear. However, all the experiments in clean energy are masked or they are being executed in areas that do not really influence the way we live our lives. If there is any truth to the impending energy crisis as we are repeatedly advocated, there is a greater need to introduce more transparency into the cycle of production and consumption of energy. It is only then that we can work together to encourage a clean energy world. We want it to become the face of the cutting edge research going on at the University and want to work hand in hand to show these emergent possibilities. We are clear that we want to bring transparency into this energy world to help foster consciousness and dialogue. As a start we are taking steps to make this process of building the new energy plant open for everyone to participate. Afterall, the energy plant is meant to be enjoyed by everyone at the University.
Energy plant 1.0 Aim “to
inspire students and to motivate them to contribute actively to innovation in sustainable energy technology.”
IDEAS
REFERENCES
Most of the ideas can be clubbed into three categories where the energy plant is can be either a machine, a showcase or a sculpture that contributes to the social and cultural environment.
SIMILAR STUFF AROUND THE WORLD Machine - ‘Idea of a tree’ by Mischer Taxler Produces furniture of a constant shape, in which colours vary on the strength of sun rays
1 ENERGY PLANT AS A MACHINE It harnesses freely available (sun and wind) energy continuously to produce/perform a specific activity. Example : Autonomous coffee machine or a wind trubine driven laundry facility for students living on campus (imagine saving 4.5 euros per wash)
Sculpture Animals by Theo Jansen These animals use wind to move around and in some cases can sense their surroundings.
2 ENERGY PLANT AS A SHOWCASE Showcase incorporating clean energy as part our daily life.
Imagine these wandering around in the green space in the middle of the University
3 ENERGY PLANT AS A SCULPTURE
Sculpture Sea organ in Croatia. Produces music as sea water hit the steps.
Sculpture to bring awareness and appreciation of these invisible forces - the sun and the wind.
The same principal can be used for wind.
Autonomous Coffee machine Kiosk Here the idea has been of taking a simple need and adapting the system around it to function through clean energy so people are easily able to relate to it.
Have you ever considered how much energy we consume in doing most basic things like getting a cup of coffee? Say 1 Kwatt? But what is 1 Kwatt of power? What does it mean? Can we quantify it in number of kilometers we would need to cycle?
If made then this system could perhaps serves any kiosk. In this case you imagine autonomous coffee machines on the street or an exhibition space that can be placed anywhere, no plugs.
What does it take to produce 1 Kwatt?
Concept: The Energy Plant’s design is inspired by the water lily. But not just because that’s a pretty flower. The flower shape on top of the pole actually accelerates the wind as a result of the venturi effect, resulting in a significantly higher power output of the turbine and therefore a better performance of the system.
Happy sunny or Windy
System: The Energy Plant is a dynamic statue combining a wind turbine and a fountain via a hydraulic transmission. The Energy Plant captures energy from the wind via a 2m diameter and 6 bladed wind turbine. With the rotation of the blades, the system drives an impeller pump. The pump builds up a pressure inside a pressure vessel, which is below the water level. When the pressure is high enough, an electronic valve will open, thereby creating a pulsating fountain
